Background: Older adults with heart disease experience higher rates of depression and insomnia compared with heart disease-free peers. Aside from these psychological disturbances, overall health satisfaction, as a key indicator of subjective health status, may be affected by heart disease status. In spite of these overall associations, symptom-level relationships between depression, insomnia, and health satisfaction remain unclear.

Background: Pain resilience and regional gray matter volume (rGMV) are established correlates of adaptation to chronic pain within cross-sectional studies. Extending such work, this prospective cohort study tested the status of baseline pain resilience dimension scores and rGMV as risk factors for subsequent exacerbations in chronic pain disability and intensity.

Methods: 142 adults with chronic musculoskeletal pain completed an initial assessment comprising a structural magnetic resonance imaging scan and self-report measures of cognitive/affective positivity and behavioral perseverance pain resilience dimensions, disability, pain intensity, and demographics.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze gender differences in behavioral and emotional problems among children and adolescents in China using a national survey and Achenbach's Child Behavior Checklist.
  • Results revealed that boys generally display more severe behavioral and emotional issues than girls, with "Attention problems" and "Aggressive behavior" showing the strongest associations across both genders, regardless of age.
  • The findings suggest that focusing on interventions for aggressive behavior, anxiety/depression, and social problems could be effective in addressing these issues in youth.

  • Older adults with heart disease often show higher rates of depression and anxiety compared to their peers without heart disease, indicating a need for targeted mental health support.
  • The study used network analysis to assess the symptoms of depression and anxiety in these two groups, finding that the central and bridge symptoms were similar across both, despite the higher prevalence in the heart disease group.
  • Interventions designed to help older adults without heart disease may also be effective for those with heart disease due to the similar symptom network structures identified in the study.*

Past cross-sectional chronic pain studies have revealed aberrant resting-state brain activity in regions involved in pain processing and affect regulation. However, there is a paucity of longitudinal research examining links of resting-state activity and pain resilience with changes in chronic pain outcomes over time. In this prospective study, we assessed the status of baseline (T1) resting-state brain activity as a biomarker of later impairment from chronic pain and a mediator of the relation between pain resilience and impairment at follow-up.

Background: LGBTQ+ populations have been reported to have higher rates of depression compared with their heterosexual peers. Such data provided us the impetus to conduct a meta-analysis on the worldwide prevalence of major depressive disorder (MDD) in LGBTQ+ populations and moderating factors that contributed to differences in prevalence estimates between studies.

Methods: A systematic literature search was performed in major international (PubMed, PsycINFO, Web of Science, EMBASE) and Chinese (Chinese Nation Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and WANFANG) databases from dates of inception to 10 December 2021.

Background: Because pain can have profound ramifications for quality of life and daily functioning, understanding nuances in the interplay of psychosocial experiences with pain perception is vital for effective pain management. In separate lines of research, pain resilience and mortality salience have emerged as potentially important psychological correlates of reduced pain severity and increased tolerance of pain. However, to date, there has been a paucity of research examining potentially interactive effects of these factors on pain perception.
