Background: Sjögren's disease (SjD) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by sicca syndrome with undetermined roles of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and mitochondrial dynamics in the damaged glands. This study aimed to clarify the roles of ROS and mitochondrial dynamics in SjD-related hyposalivation and explored the therapeutic effect of targeting mitochondrial fission to treat hyposalivation in murine SjD.

Methods: Single-cell sequencing analysis of submandibular glands (SMGs) from mice with SjD was performed.

DREADD (design receptors exclusively activated by designer drugs) is a widely used powerful tool designed to study specific cellular functions. However, off-target effects of chemogenetic activators, including clozapine N-oxide (CNO) and deschloroclozapine (DCZ), have been reported. In our study, we demonstrated the direct off-target effects of CNO and DCZ on basal Ca levels in the locus coeruleus nucleus in both neurons and astrocytes by combining viral microinjection, Ca imaging and electrophysiology.

Smoking is the only cardiovascular risk factor for plaque erosion. We found cigarette tar resulted in erosion-like lesion development in apolipoprotein E mice, with mural thrombosis, discontinuous endothelium, platelet activation, smooth muscle cell proliferation, and hyaluronic acid accumulation in the aorta. Single-cell transcriptomics revealed that genes relating to pyroptosis, platelet activation, and leukocytes adhesion were significantly increased in an endothelial cell subset.

Soil degradation limits maize grain yield, but the mechanisms by which leaf functions respond to topsoil depth and their contributions to yield are unclear. We quantified the response mechanisms of leaf functions to topsoil depth with topsoil depths of 10 cm (S), 20 cm (S), 30 cm (S), 40 cm (S), and 50 cm (S) and planting densities of 15,000 plants ha (D, the plant spacing was 111.1 cm and there was no mutual influence between individuals) and 75,000 plants ha (D).

Metabolic diseases such as high blood lipids, high blood sugar, and disrupted gut microbiota pose a serious threat to people's physical health. The occurrence of these diseases is closely related to the lack of nutrients in daily rice staple foods, but there is a lack of comprehensive analysis of the underlying mechanisms. This study used fully nutritious brown rice as raw material, and after germination under various stress conditions, it significantly increased the levels of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA, four carbon non protein amino acid), resistant starch, flavonoids, and other components that regulate metabolic diseases.

Wall-associated receptor kinases (WAKs) and WAK-likes (WAKLs) play pivotal roles in regulating plant immunity, through multiple downstream signaling components. However, knowledge of WAKs/WAKLs in wheat immune responses to rust diseases remain limited. In this study, we identified and characterized a wheat WAKL, TaWAKL8-2B, which is upregulated during wheat resistance to both Puccinia striiformis f.

Growing demand for plant-based nutraceuticals drives the need for innovative bioprocessing strategies. This study developed an integrated approach combining germination and Lactobacillus-mediated fermentation to produce a γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-enriched functional beverage from brown rice. Systematic screening identified an optimal rice cultivar for germination.

Background: Suboptimal adherence to guidelines is a common phenomenon in clinical settings. Studies regarding the complexity of tasks, cognitive load, and adherence to guidelines among clinical nurses are noteworthy, but limited.

Purpose: To investigate whether cognitive load mediates the association between task complexity and guideline adherence in clinical nurses.

Background: Alterations in multiple lipid metabolism pathways are associated with cancer progression. However, the relationship between lipid metabolism and central nervous system (CNS) relapse in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) remains unclear.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 806 AML cases to evaluate the association between serum lipid levels and the risk of CNS relapse.

To address the underutilization of rose processing byproducts and meet the demand for antibiotic-free meat production, this study examined the effects of dietary supplementation with rose pomace (RP) on growth performance, rumen fermentation, bacterial diversity, and longissimus dorsi amino acid and fatty acid profiles in Hu sheep. Forty male Hu sheep were randomly assigned to four groups ( = 10): a control group (RP0) with a basal diet and three treatment groups supplemented with 2, 4, or 8% RP (RP2, RP4, RP8). Results showed that RP8 had significantly higher dry matter intake (DMI) than RP2 ( ≤ 0.

Objective: The study aimed to examine the association between obesity and hyperuricemia in ob/ob mice.

Methods: An animal model of obesity was developed using male ob/ob mice. Biochemical parameter test kits were used to measure serum uric acid (UA), hepatic xanthine oxidase (XOD) activity, serum creatinine (Scr), serum lipid profiles, and blood urea nitrogen (BUN).

Background: Derived neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (dNLR) is an emerging blood-based inflammatory biomarker previously reported to have prognostic value in various malignancies. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic significance of dNLR in patients with distal cholangiocarcinoma (dCCA) after curative resection.

Methods: Clinicopathological data of patients with dCCA in our hospital from Jan.

This study reports the design and fabrication of a magnetic nanoporous carbon-based recyclable surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate Co/C@Ag/g-CN, which can simultaneously achieve SERS detection and visible-light photocatalytic degradation of malachite green (MG). Co/C and g-CN can spontaneously adsorb and concentrate MG near plasmonic nanoparticles, thereby enhancing the SERS response. The substrate exhibited a SERS enhancement factor of approximately 1.

Background: The occupational stress experienced by nurses and their humanistic care characteristics directly influence the quality of nursing. Presenteeism serves as an external manifestation of occupational stress and may diminish nurses' humanistic care capabilities. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the relationships among the occupational stress, presenteeism and humanistic care characteristics of nurses in China, as well as the mediating role of presenteeism.

Haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (Haplo-HSCT) provides cure opportunity for patients requiring prompt allogeneic HSCT but failing to identify well-matched donor, but its outcomes are potentially impaired by increased transplant-related mortality (TRM). We performed haplo-HSCT using granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF)-primed peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs), umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) and third-party unrelated umbilical cord blood (UCB) stem cells. Modified "Beijing protocol" were performed in this study.

The paper explores the effects of media influence and limited medical resources on the spread of infectious diseases using mathematical modeling. We construct a switching epidemic model that incorporates a media influence factor, an inoculation function, and a cure function. This model is subsequently discretized and studied via Euler's method.

DNA methylation (5-methylcytosine, 5mC) represents the most prevalent modification in mammals, which is closely linked to disease pathogenesis and cancer development. Single-base resolution sequencing and quantitative analysis of 5mC are essential for elucidating its biological functions. However, current methods are still limited by resolution, sequencing bias, and false positives.

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries are hindered by the sluggish electrochemical kinetics and poor reversibility of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs), which limits their practical energy density and cycle life. In order to address this issue, a novel NiN/NbN heterostructure was synthesized via electrospinning and nitridation as a functional coating for polypropylene (PP) separators. Adsorption experiments were conducted in order to ascertain the heterostructure's superior affinity for LiPSs, thereby effectively mitigating their shuttling.
