Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the link between knee morphology and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) avulsion fractures in adults, noting a gap in existing research on this specific relationship.
  • It involved 76 patients with PCL avulsion fractures and 76 matched controls, comparing various MRI knee measurements, such as intercondylar notch width index and tibial slopes, using statistical methods.
  • The results indicated that while women showed significant differences in certain knee morphologies linked to PCL injuries, no differences were found in men, with the coronal notch width index identified as a potential independent risk factor for PCL avulsion fractures in females.

Gastric motility is coordinated by underlying bioelectrical "slow wave" activity. Slow wave dysrhythmias are associated with motility disorders, including gastroparesis, offering an underexplored potential therapeutic target. Although ablation is widely used to treat cardiac arrhythmias, this approach has not yet been trialed for gastric electrical abnormalities.

Self-assembly of polyoxometalates, Ni(ii)/Ag(i) cations and tetra-[5-(mercapto)-1-methyltetrazole]-thiacalix[4]arene (L) yielded three inorganic-organic hybrids, namely, [NiL(CHOH)(HO)][PMoO]·3CHOH·2HO (1), [NiL(CHOH)(HO)][PWO]·3CHOH·2HO (2) and [AgL(PMoO)] (3). In hybrids (1) and (2), Ni(ii) cations are linked by L ligands to produce layered frameworks, and H bonds among the [PMoO]/[PWO] anions and L ligands lengthen the structures to form 3D supramolecular architectures. Hybrid (3) exhibits a 3D architecture, of which Ag(i) cations not only coordinated with the N and O atoms of L ligands and [PMoO] anions simultaneously, but also connected each other by Ag-Ag interactions.

TIGIT is an emerging novel checkpoint target that is expressed on both tumor-infiltrating T cells and NK cells. Some current investigational antibodies targeting TIGIT have also achieved dramatic antitumor efficacy in late clinical research. Most recently, the relevance of NK cell-associated TIGIT signaling pathway to tumors' evasion of the immune system has been clearly revealed, which endows NK cells with a pivotal role in the therapeutic effects of TIGIT blockade.

Magnetogastrography (MGG) is a non-invasive method of assessing gastric slow waves (SWs) by recording the resultant magnetic fields. MGG can capture both SW frequency and propagation, and identify SW dysrhythmias that are associated with motility disorders. However, the impact of the restricted spatial coverage and sensor density on SW propagation tracking performance is unknown.

In face of the everlasting battle toward COVID-19 and the rapid evolution of SARS-CoV-2, no specific and effective drugs for treating this disease have been reported until today. Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), a receptor of SARS-CoV-2, mediates the virus infection by binding to spike protein. Although ACE2 is expressed in the lung, kidney, and intestine, its expressing levels are rather low, especially in the lung.

Responsible for the ongoing coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infects host cells through binding of the viral spike protein (SARS-2-S) to the cell-surface receptor angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2). Here we show that the high-density lipoprotein (HDL) scavenger receptor B type 1 (SR-B1) facilitates ACE2-dependent entry of SARS-CoV-2. We find that the S1 subunit of SARS-2-S binds to cholesterol and possibly to HDL components to enhance viral uptake in vitro.
