This study was performed to investigate the association of peripheral T lymphocyte subsets with disseminated infection (DI) by (MTB) in HIV-negative patients. The study included 587 HIV-negative tuberculosis (TB) patients. In TB patients with DI, the proportion of CD4+ T cells decreased, the proportion of CD8+ T cells increased, and the ratio of CD4+/CD8+ T cells decreased.

Circulating VEGF-A, TNF-α, CCL2, IL-6, and IFN-γ as biomarkers of cancer in cancer-associated anti-TIF1-γ antibody-positive dermatomyositis.

Objectives: The objective of the current study was to detect plasma profiles of inflammatory cytokines for determining potential biomarkers indicating cancer presence among the anti-TIF1-γ antibody-positive dermatomyositis (DM) patients.

Methods: Twenty-seven cancer-associated anti-TIF1-γ antibody-positive DM (Cancer TIF1-γ-DM) patients were compared with 20 anti-TIF1-γ antibody-positive DM patients without cancer (Non-cancer TIF1-γ-DM) and 10 healthy controls (HC). The plasma levels of 17 cytokines were determined using the Luminex 200 system.

Background: Anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 (MDA5)-positive dermatomyositis (MDA5 DM) is significantly associated with interstitial lung disease (ILD), especially rapidly progressive ILD (RPILD) due to poor prognosis, resulting in high mortality rates. However, the pathogenic mechanism of MDA5 DM-RPILD is unclear. Although some MDA5 DM patients have a chronic course of ILD, many do not develop RPILD.

Real-world effectiveness and protection of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine among patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in Xi'an, China, December 8, 2021, to January 20, 2022: A retrospective study.

Introduction: In December 2021, a large-scale epidemic broke out in Xi'an, China, due to SARS-CoV-2 infection. This study reports the effect of vaccination on COVID-19 and evaluates the impact of different vaccine doses on routine laboratory markers.

Methods: The laboratory data upon admission, of 231 cases with COVID-19 hospitalized from December 8, 2021 to January 20, 2022 in Xi'an, including blood routine, lymphocyte subtypes, coagulative function tests, virus specific antibodies and blood biochemical tests were collected and analyzed.

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA modification is a new epigenetic regulation mechanism on eukaryotic mRNA. Few autoimmune diseases focused on the role of m6A in their pathogenies, and m6A modulation in the pathological process of primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) is still unknown. In this work, three microarray datasets of pSS patients were downloaded from the GEO database: datasets #1 and #2 from the whole peripheral blood (PB) samples, dataset #3 from the labial salivary gland tissue samples, as well as a PB cohort collected from our hospital.

Invasive nontyphoidal Salmonella (iNTS) causes extraintestinal infections with ~15% case fatality in many countries. However, the mechanism by which iNTS emerged in China remains unaddressed. We conducted clinical investigations of iNTS infection with recurrent treatment failure, caused by underreported Salmonella enterica serovar Livingstone (SL).

Objectives: IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is an immune-mediated fibroinflammatory disorder with heterogeneous manifestations. This study aimed to investigate the utility of human epididymis protein 4 (HE4) as a potential clinical biomarker of fibrosis in IgG4-RD.

Methods: Plasma HE4 levels were estimated in 136 patients with IgG4-RD and 73 healthy individuals (controls) by electrochemical luminescence.

Robust biomarkers to predict response to irinotecan-based nCRT are extremely necessary for selecting the right patients. Our previous study suggests that patient-derived tumor organoids (PDTOs) sensitivity to chemoradiotherapy matches patient responses.

Oral Bacteria Dysbiosis in Patients with Linezolid-Induced Black Hairy Tongue: A Case Series.

Linezolid-induced black hairy tongue is a self-limiting benign disease that is rare. Here, we report three patients who developed black hairy tongue after linezolid treatment. The severe dysbiosis of oral bacterial communities was observed in all these patients.

Computed tomography (CT) has been widely used for the diagnosis of pelvic rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) in children. However, it is difficult to differentiate pelvic RMS from other pelvic malignancies. This study aimed to analyze and select CT features by using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) logistic regression and established a Fisher discriminant analysis (FDA) model for the quantitative diagnosis of pediatric pelvic RMS.

Patient-Derived Organoids from Colorectal Cancer with Paired Liver Metastasis Reveal Tumor Heterogeneity and Predict Response to Chemotherapy.

There is no effective method to predict chemotherapy response and postoperative prognosis of colorectal cancer liver metastasis (CRLM) patients. Patient-derived organoid (PDO) has become an important preclinical model. Herein, a living biobank with 50 CRLM organoids derived from primary tumors and paired liver metastatic lesions is successfully constructed.

An exploratory study of drivers' EEG response during emergent collision avoidance.

Introduction: EEG (electroencephalogram) has been applied as a valuable measure to estimate drivers' mental status and cognitive workload during driving tasks. However, most previous studies have focused on the EEG features at particular driver status, such as fatigue or distraction, with less attention paid to EEG response in emergent and safety-critical situations. This study aims to investigate the underlying patterns of different EEG components during an emergent collision avoidance process.

Immunomodulatory effects of chicken soups prepared with the native cage-free chickens and the commercial caged broilers.

The objective of this study was to compare the immunomodulatory effects of the chicken soups prepared with the native free-range chickens and the commercial caged broilers in the immunosuppressive mice. The immunosuppressive mice model was established by the intraperitoneal injection of 100 mg of cyclophosphamide (CTX) per kg body weight. The powders of Gushi Chicken Soup (GCS), Honglashan Chicken Soup (HCS), and Cobb Broiler Soup (CBS) were prepared by high-pressure stewing followed by spray drying.

Poor maternal nutrition during gestation can result in reduced offspring muscle growth and altered muscle metabolism. We hypothesized that over- or restricted-nutrition during gestation would alter the longissimus dorsi muscle (LM) proteome of offspring. Pregnant ewes were fed 60% (restricted), 100% (control), or 140% (over) of National Research Council requirements for total digestible nutrients from day 30 of gestation until parturition.

Developing a two-stage auditory warning system for safe driving and eco-driving at signalized intersections: A driving simulation study.
