Background: Severe polytrauma is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. Hyperferritinemia is increasingly recognized as a biomarker of critical illness, yet its prognostic significance in polytrauma remains underexplored. This multicenter study investigates the temporal dynamics of serum ferritin in polytrauma patients and its association with systemic inflammation, organ dysfunction, and mortality.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAtopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, recurrent, inflammatory skin disease often accompanied by severe itching that seriously affects patients' quality of life. Conventional topical medications, including glucocorticoids and calcineurin inhibitors, frequently cause varying adverse effects in a significant number of AD patients. Consequently, new topical treatments for AD require further investigation.

Summary Answer: The female or male HBV infection did not have a statistically significant negative impact on the development of oocytes and embryos, pregnancy outcomes, or neonatal outcomes of ART.
What Is Known Already: Only few studies assessing the effects of HBV infection on the reproductive outcomes among infertile population have been conducted with inconsistent results. There is limited research that focuses on the oocyte and embryo development of HBV-infected females and males.

Background/aims: The role of reactivation of Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) in determining outcomes of cirrhotic patients with acute decompensation (AD) is unknown. We aimed to investigate HCMV incidence and potential correlation with hepatic outcomes in AD patients.
Methods: Two prospective multicentre cohorts with AD patients were investigated.
Purpose: To investigate possible differences in cumulative live birth rates (CLBRs) among three progestins medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA), dydrogesterone (DYG), and Progesterone within the progestin-primed ovarian stimulation (PPOS) protocol.
Patients And Methods: This retrospective study included 21,159 women undergoing one of three ovarian stimulation protocols, hMG + MPA, hMG + DYG, or hMG + Progesterone, between September 2013 and January 2024 in our centre. Patients received oral progestins once daily as per their assigned protocol with human menopausal gonadotropin initiated on menstrual cycle day 3.
Recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) is closely associated with trophoblast dysfunction, yet the underlying regulatory mechanisms remain poorly understood. Herein, we found a significantly decreased level of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT) in RSA villous tissues compared to normal pregnancies. NNMT knockdown suppressed trophoblast proliferation, migration and invasion in vitro, and increased embryo absorption rate in vivo.

Existing unsupervised salient object detection (USOD) methods usually rely on low-level saliency priors, such as center and background priors, to detect salient objects, resulting in insufficient high-level semantic understanding. These low-level priors can be fragile and lead to failure when the natural images do not satisfy the prior assumptions, e.g.

Furthermore, dietary tea consumption also has a great impact on the variation in BMD. The pathway mechanisms from tea consumption to BMD are not well known.

Background: Previous studies have presented conflicting results on the correlation between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and subclinical atherosclerosis. However, the binary MetS definition cannot reflect the severity of metabolic disorders continuously and dynamically. The present study calculated the MetS score and explored the association between MetS score and subclinical atherosclerosis.

Seawater electrolysis offers a sustainable route for large-scale hydrogen production, yet the development of non-noble metal electrocatalysts with high activity and chloride resistance remains challenging. Here, we report a photo-assisted synthesis method to fabricate a ternary metal (oxy)hydroxide electrocatalyst (p-S-Ni(Fe,Co)OOH) from nickel foam, utilizing photogenerated holes to achieve atomic-level Fe/Co co-doping. The p-S-Ni(Fe,Co)OOH exhibits bifunctional activity in alkaline seawater, requiring overpotentials of 108 and 186 mV for hydrogen- and oxygen-evolution reactions (HER and OER) at 10 mA cm in 1.

The successful implementation of these low-carbon measures and the subsequent maintenance of relevant amenities rely on the support of local residents. However, there is limited understanding of residents' awareness and support for the different types of low-carbon measures, which can involve different trade-offs.

Transfer RNA-derived small RNAs (tsRNAs) are a novel class of noncoding RNAs implicated in various human diseases. However, the role and mechanism of tsRNAs in regulating trophoblast function during RSA development remain unknown.

Objective: There is an absence of a comprehensive clinical instrument to assess and track the development of non-ideal feeding practices and lifestyle behaviours in early childhood. Our primary aim was to develop and validate an assessment instrument, called Feeding, Lifestyle, Activity Goals (FLAGs), designed to serve as a feeding, lifestyle and activity behaviour checklist for children aged 0-2 years.
Methods: This study took place between January and May 2023.
The genus Streptomyces comprises gram-positive bacteria that produce large numbers of secondary metabolites, which have promising commercial applications and deserve extensive study. Most bacteria synthesize fatty acids using a type II fatty acid synthase, with each step catalyzed by a discrete protein. Fatty acid synthesis has been intensively studied in the model strain Streptomyces coelicolor, in which 3-ketoacyl-acyl carrier protein synthase III (KAS III, FabH) is essential for growth and fatty acid biosynthesis.

Early diagnosis of IFI is challenging, and currently, there are no predictive tools for identifying sepsis patients who may develop IFI. Our study aims to develop a predictive scoring system to assess the risk of IFI in patients with sepsis admitted to the ICU.

However, a significant knowledge gap remains: comparing the stringency of climate change policies over time or across jurisdictions is challenging due to ambiguous definitions, the lack of a unified assessment framework, complex causal effects, and the difficulty in achieving effective measurement. Furthermore, China's climate governance is expected to address multiple objectives by integrating main effects and side effects, to achieve synergies that encompass environmental, economic, and social impacts.

However, there are few studies on the degradation effect of on straw. In this study, six laboratory-scale treatments were conducted: corn straw composting with inoculation (CSI), rice straw composting with inoculation (RSI), and wheat straw composting with inoculation (WSI).

Background: To determine the optimal fluid resuscitation volume in septic patients with acutely decompensated heart failure (ADHF).
Methods: Septic patients with ADHF were identified from a tertiary urban medical center. The generalized additive models were used to explore the association between fluid resuscitation volume and endpoints, and the initial 3 h fluid resuscitation volume was divided into four groups according to this model: < 10 mL/kg group, ≥ 10 to ≤ 15 mL/kg group, > 15 to ≤ 20 mL/kg group, and > 20 mL/kg group.

This review examines the role of model-informed drug development (MIDD) in advancing antibacterial and antiviral drug development, with an emphasis on the inclusion of host system dynamics into modeling efforts. Amidst the growing challenges of multidrug resistance and diminishing market returns, innovative methodologies are crucial for continuous drug discovery and development. The MIDD approach, with its robust capacity to integrate diverse data types, offers a promising solution.

Purpose: Studying perivascular spaces (PVSs) is important for understanding the pathogenesis and pathological changes of neurological disorders. Although some methods for automated segmentation of PVSs have been proposed, most of them were based on 7T MR images that were majorly acquired in healthy young people. Notably, 7T MR imaging is rarely used in clinical practice.
