Soil salinisation, exacerbated by climate change and human activities such as irrigation mismanagement, improper land use and excessive fertilisation, has become a major constraint on global crop production by disrupting fundamental metabolic processes like seed germination and photosynthesis. In our previous work, transcriptome sequencing of salt-tolerant and salt-sensitive cotton germplasms identified Gh_D04G136300, a negative regulatory gene downregulated in salt-tolerant and salt-sensitive materials. Phylogenetic analysis revealed its closest homologue to be AtBGH2, leading to its designation as GhBGH2.

We reviewed the effects of acupuncture on muscle electrophysiology in stroke patients, with an emphasis on the factors influencing these effects and the underlying mechanisms. A comprehensive search of Chinese and English literature was conducted using databases including China National Knowledge Infrastructure, PubMed, and Web of Science. The search covered studies published between 1990 and 2023, using MeSH terms and keywords such as "electromyography," "acupuncture," "stroke," and "mechanisms.

The diagnostic value of needle electromyography (EMG) of sternocleidomastoid (SCM) and trapezius (TRA) in assessing bulbar lower motor neuron involvement (LMN) remained controversial. 203 sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients were enrolled to assess the correlation between EMG abnormalities in SCM and TRA and bulbar LMN involvement. Additionally, difference analysis and diagnostic consistency analysis of EMG abnormalities in GEN (genioglossus), SCM, and TRA were compared.

Objective: Stroke can cause limb spasticity, and numerous clinical studies have demonstrated that acupuncture is an effective treatment for this condition. The round-sharp needle, a type of acupuncture needle, has been reported to shorten treatment durations and reduce the number of clinic visits compared to traditional filiform needles, the conventional acupuncture. However, clinical trial research on its efficacy remains limited.

The hairy root induction system has been widely applied in studying gene expression and function in plant species due to its rapidity and efficiency. The hairy root system is an efficient tool for evaluating the activities of CRISPR/Cas systems. Cotton hairy roots were primarily induced through cotton tissue culture under aseptic conditions and by injecting cotton stem tips under non-aseptic conditions.

Background: Tinnitus, defined as the perception of sound without an external auditory stimulus, affects millions worldwide, significantly diminishing their quality of life. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the most evidence-based treatment for tinnitus management, proven effective in reducing tinnitus-related distress and severity. This study aims to evaluate the current status, emerging trends, and research hotspots in CBT for tinnitus using bibliometric methods, offering valuable insights for future studies in this field.

Background: Herbivorous insects cause substantial losses in cotton production worldwide. To resolve insect resistance and environmental pollution challenges, an innovative and eco-friendly strategy for pest management is needed. Insects acquire sterols from dietary sources because they cannot endogenously synthesize them de novo.

Regeneration represents a fundamental biological process wherein an organism's tissues or organs repair and replace themselves following damage or environmental stress. In plant systems, injured tree branches can regenerate adventitious buds and develop new crowns through propagation techniques like cuttings and canopy pruning, while transgenic plants emerge via tissue culture in genetic engineering processes intimately connected to plant regeneration mechanisms. The advancement of plant regeneration technology is critical for addressing complex and dynamic climate challenges, ultimately ensuring global agricultural sustainability.

The phytophagous (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) is a global agricultural pest that damages many crops. Conversely, the predatory (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) shows promise as a biological control agent against lepidopteran and coleopteran pests. and are closely related species with different feeding habits, as confirmed via genomic and morphological analyses.

Nanomaterials cannot only act as active ingredients (AIs), but also adjuvants to encapsulate or attach AIs to improve their fungicidal activity. Herein, a hydrophilic and lipophilic diblock polymer (HLDP) is designed and synthesized to prepare a series of HLDP nano-protectants to explore the best HLDP nano-protectant for anthracnose management. These results demonstrate that the HLDP-CS nano-protectant displays the best control effects on mango anthracnose via the direct pathogen inhibition and amplified plant immune responses.

Stainless steel, as a popular corrosion resistant material, is still vulnerable to pitting corrosion in the marine environment. Therefore, in order to ensure the safety of stainless steel in the marine environment, it is necessary to implement corresponding protective measures. Titanium dioxide (TiO), as an N-type semiconductor with excellent photoelectric properties, is widely used in the field of cathodic protection.

Cotton production faces challenges in fluctuating environmental conditions due to limited genetic variation in cultivated cotton species. To enhance the genetic diversity crucial for this primary fiber crop, it is essential to augment current germplasm resources. High-throughput sequencing has significantly impacted cotton functional genomics, enabling the creation of diverse mutant libraries and the identification of mutant functional genes and new germplasm resources.

Article Synopsis
  • Natural enemies like predatory bugs can help control agricultural pest populations, especially when used alongside chemical pesticides.
  • Recovery from insecticides is typically rare for many insects; however, the predatory bug Arma chinensis was found to recover from β-cypermethrin exposure while other pests did not.
  • The study identified gene regulation and a novel mechanism involving neurotransmitter clearance that enables A. chinensis to detoxify and recover from insecticide effects, highlighting important insights into pest management strategies.

Gustatory receptors (GRs) allow insects to sense tastes in their external environment. Gustatory perception is crucial for distinguishing between beneficial and harmful or toxic compounds, affecting survival. This study is the first to identify and classify the GR genes and investigate their expression in the predatory .

The transcription factor AmCBF1 deepens the leaf colour of transgenic cotton by binding to the promoter of the chloroplast development-related protein GhClpR1 to promote photosynthesis. The ATP-dependent caseinolytic protease (Clp protease) family plays a crucial role within chloroplasts, comprising several Clp proteins to maintain chloroplast homeostasis. At present, research on Clp proteins mainly focuses on Arabidopsis, leaving its function in other plants, particularly in crops, less explored.
