Aims: To identify and validate subgroups of type 2 diabetes in Chinese populations using clustering analysis and assess their complication risks.
Materials And Methods: Data from 5653 type 2 diabetes patients in the Shanghai Suburban Adult Cohort and Biobank (SSACB) and 6384 in the Southwest China Diabetic Chronic Complications Study were integrated. Using body mass index, fasting blood glucose, age at diabetes diagnosis, and triglycerides to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio, k-means clustering was performed by sex in SSACB and validated in Southwest China Diabetic Chronic Complications Study.

Background: Little is known about the impact of environmental noise on cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in low- and middle-income countries, where high population density and complex sources of noise are prevalent. This study aimed to explore associations of environmental noise with CVDs and cardiovascular risk factors.
Methods: 27,444 participants aged 18-74 years were included in this study.
The 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV23) is recommended for adults to prevent pneumococcal diseases, while its effectiveness over time remains unclear. This study aimed to assess the age- and time-dependent effectiveness of PPV23 in reducing community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) incidence among adults aged 60 and older in China. We conducted a prospective cohort study in Shanghai, China, identifying CAP cases via inpatient and outpatient medical records.

Background: Lung cancer is one of the malignant cancers with the highest incidence rate, and it is important to identify the factors contributing to lung cancer carcinogenesis for prevention. Lifestyle and genetic factors play important roles in cancer development, however the impact of dietary factors, such as soy product intake, on lung cancer risk remains inadequately understood. This study aims to explore the associations between soy product intake, genetic risk, and lung cancer incidence, and validate the consistent effects of soy product intake in European populations, thereby providing new insights for lung cancer prevention.

We aimed to investigate the associations between ambient temperature, relative humidity, and pediatric RSV infections, and to assess the disease burden attributable to cold or humid conditions. Daily data on RSV hospitalizations among children aged ≤5 years, mean temperature, and relative humidity in Suzhou, China, from January 2016 to December 2019 were collected.

We sought to explore the potential association between the adherence to an alternate Mediterranean diet score (aMED) and the risk of developing depression among adults in Eastern China. : This study used a prospective cohort design that involved a total of 52,232 individuals in the Shanghai Suburban Adult Cohort and Biobank (SSACB).

Methods: This study examined all initial 90 885 confirmed index cases in Shanghai and their 450 770 close contacts. A generalised additive mixed model was used to analyse the associations of the number of close contacts with different demographic and clinical characteristics.

Background: Seasonal influenza illness and acute respiratory infections can impose a substantial economic burden in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We assessed the cost of influenza illness and acute respiratory infections across household income strata.
Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis of data from a prior systematic review of costs of influenza and other respiratory illnesses in LMICs and contacted authors to obtain data on cost of illness (COI) for laboratory-confirmed influenza-like illness and acute respiratory infection.
N6-methyladenosine (mA) serves as one of the crucial RNA modifications for genes involved in cancer progression. Here, 7273 expression quantitative trait loci potentially regulating 30 m6A pathway genes are identified from the GTEx database, with 69 single nucleotide polymorphisms significantly associated with survival of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) patients (n = 1523) from the ongoing genome-wide association study after false positive probability tests. Notably, the rs151198415 locus, situated in a potential enhancer region, demonstrated a prolonged survival effect with the C>CCACG insertion, which is validated in an independent prospective cohort (n = 237), yielding a pooled hazard ratio of 0.

However, few studies have evaluated the association of dietary diversity with hyperuricemia. To preliminarily reveal the status of a diversified diet in preventing hyperuricemia based on a neighborhood-based, massive-scale cohort in China, a total of 43,493 participants aged 20-74 years old, with no history of hyperuricemia at baseline, were enrolled in the research from April 2016 to December 2019.

Methods: We retrospectively screened the electronic database of the hospital information system to identify all pediatric CAP cases admitted to the Children's Hospital of Soochow University between 2010 and 2014. Radiographic findings and clinical data were extracted from the medical charts through individual chart reviews.

Background: Both genetic and lifestyle factors contribute to myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke, including ischaemic stroke (IS) and intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH). We explored how and the extent to which a healthy lifestyle, by considering a comprehensive list, could counteract the genetic risk of those diseases, respectively.
Methods: 315 044 participants free of stroke and MI at baseline were identified from the UK Biobank.
Background: Blood homocysteine (Hcy) level has become a sensitive indicator in predicting the development of cardiovascular disease. Studies have shown an association between individual mineral intake and blood Hcy levels. The effect of mixed minerals' intake on blood Hcy levels is unknown.

Background: Nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) targeted at SARS-CoV-2 have remarkably affected the circulation of other respiratory pathogens, including respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). This study aimed to assess the changes in epidemiological and clinical characteristics of RSV infections in hospitalized children before and during the pandemic in Suzhou, China.
Methods: We prospectively enrolled children aged < 18 years who were hospitalized in Soochow University Affiliated Children's Hospital with acute lower respiratory infection (ALRIs) from January 2018 to July 2022.

Aims: Evidence regarding the modification effects of age, sex, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or weight status on the associations of sedentary behavior (SB) with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) is limited. Moreover, the mechanisms for the associations also remain unclear. We aimed to investigate the possible influence of these factors on the associations of SB with CVD events and whether the associations are mediated by metabolic phenotypes.
