The analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in exhaled breath has emerged as a promising non-invasive approach for cancer diagnosis, offering advantages in speed, safety, cost-effectiveness, and real-time monitoring. Two primary methodologies are employed for VOCs detection: mass spectrometry (MS)-based techniques, which provide high-precision identification and quantification of individual compounds, and sensor-based pattern recognition methods, which detect disease-specific VOC signatures. Despite their diagnostic potential, inconsistencies in accuracy highlight the need for a comprehensive evaluation of these techniques.

In this study, MAIGGT (Multimodal Artificial Intelligence Germline Genetic Testing) is proposed, a deep learning framework that integrates histopathological microenvironment features from whole-slide images with clinical phenotypes from electronic health records for precise prescreening of germline BRCA1/2 mutations. Leveraging a multi-scale Transformer-based deep generative architecture, MAIGGT employs a cross-modal latent representation unification mechanism to capture complementary biological insights from multimodal data.

Lactylation modification, as a key epigenetic mechanism in cancer biology, has not yet been fully elucidated in the context of BRCA. This study examines the regulatory mechanisms of lactylation-related genes (LRGs), specifically PRDX1, and their prognostic significance in BRCA.

The fragmentomics-based cell-free DNA (cfDNA) assays have recently illustrated prominent abilities to identify various cancers from non-conditional healthy controls, while their accuracy for identifying early-stage cancers from benign lesions with inconclusive imaging results remains uncertain. Especially for breast cancer, current imaging-based screening methods suffer from high false positive rates for women with breast nodules, leading to unnecessary biopsies, which add to discomfort and healthcare burden. Here, we enrolled 613 female participants in this multi-center study and demonstrated that cfDNA fragmentomics (cfFrag) is a robust non-invasive biomarker for breast cancer using whole-genome sequencing.

In the domain of addressing cancer resistance, challenges such as limited effectiveness and treatment resistance remain persistent. Hypoxia is a key feature of solid tumors and is strongly associated with poor prognosis in cancer patients. Another significant portion of the development of acquired drug resistance is attributed to tumor stemness.

Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) is promising for polymer solid-state electrolytes (PSEs) but faces challenges such as low ionic conductivity, uneven strain distribution, and poor lithium (Li) dendrite inhibition. Herein, an effective strategy is proposed to enhance PVDF-based PSEs by incorporating a fast ion conductor LiZr(PO) (LZP) with a negative thermal expansion property and a NASICON-type structure, and the effects are investigated using multifarious methods. The added LZP not only enhances the mobility of the PVDF chain and the concentration of free Li, but regulates heat release and volume expansion of PSEs during cycles, thereby protecting electrode morphology and structure, as well as improving the interface between the electrode and electrolyte.

Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhagic stroke (ICH) is a highly aggressive disease, with a high incidence and mortality rate. Iron deposition following ICH leads to oxidative damage and motor dysfunction, significantly impacting the overall quality of life for those affected. Here, a polyphenolic nanomedicine, catechin-based polyphenol nanoparticles surface-modified by thiol-terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (CNPs@PEG), was developed through the oxidative polymerization and self-assembly of catechin, a natural compound in tea.

To provide a stable and reliable source of PMFs, an efficient process of large-scale preparation is warranted. Here, an extraction model for enriching PMFs from citrus fruits was proposed using an enzyme/acid-catalyzed hybrid hydrolysis approach.

Certain probiotic microorganisms can synthesize important bioproducts, including polysaccharides as components of cellular structure or extracellular matrix. Probiotic-derived polysaccharides have been widely applied in food, pharmaceutical, and medical fields due to their excellent properties and biological activities. The development of polysaccharide production potential has become a driving force for facilitating biotechnological applications of probiotics.

Herein, we describe a [4σ+4π-1] and [4σ+4π] cycloaddition strategy to access 7/8-membered fused carbocycles through rhodium-catalyzed coupling between the 4σ-donor (benzocyclobutenones) and pendant diene (4π) motifs. The two pathways can be controlled by adjusting the solvated CO concentration.

Herein, we developed a thinning-back process to address this dilemma, in which silver film is first deposited to a larger thickness with high continuity and then thinned back to a reduced thickness with an ultrasmooth surface, both implemented by a flood ion beam. Contributed by the shallow implantation of silver atoms into the substrate during deposition, the thinness of silver films down to 4.

Smart hydrogels have shown great potential applications in disease treatment due to their controlled and local drug-release ability. Herein, a smart hydrogel with pH-responsive, injectable, and self-healing properties for controlled release of taxifolin (TFL) was prepared by freezing-thawing and photo-crosslinking methods. The crosslinking network of hydrogels (CS-CA hydrogels) was constructed by the hydrogen bonds, Schiff base bonds, and cyclobutane rings using chitosan (CS) and coumarin (CA) as raw materials.

Smart windows with tunable optical properties for energy-saving and privacy protection applications are receiving increasing attention. However, current studies of smart windows either involve the use of complex material preparation processes and complex device systems for window switching or continue to face several challenges, including low luminous transmittance, low luminous and solar modulation, and narrow wavelength range management problems. Here, we report a dual-responsive smart window that achieves solar light management in the range of 200-2500 nm.

Background: Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC), also called undifferentiated thyroid cancer, is the least common but most aggressive and deadly thyroid gland malignancy of all thyroid cancers[1]. It has poor prognosis, and is the leading cause of death from malignant thyroid tumors. The one-year survival rate is 20%, with a median overall survival (OS) of only 5 mo[2].

However, the insufficient intrinsic osteogenic capacity of Ti and its alloys impedes bone repair and regeneration, and implant-related infection or inflammation remains the leading cause of implant failure. Bacterial infections or inflammatory diseases constitute severe threats to human health.
