Chronic kidney disease (CKD) substantially increases cardiovascular risk, with endothelial dysfunction as its central pathological mechanism. This review summarises the molecular regulatory mechanisms underlying endothelial dysfunction in CKD and highlights recent advances in treatment strategies. The pathophysiology of endothelial injuries involves a complex network of multiple factors and mechanisms, including oxidative stress, inflammation, glycocalyx damage, ischaemia, hypoxia, cellular senescence and endothelial-mesenchymal transition (EndMT).

The advancement of sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) as next-generation energy storage systems is critically dependent on developing high-performance anode materials. Metal selenides have garnered significant attention as promising anode candidates due to their high theoretical capacities, yet their practical application is hampered by intrinsic issues such as large volume expansion, poor electrical conductivity, and structural pulverization during cycling. Engineering the microstructure of metal selenides offers a powerful avenue to overcome these limitations and unlock their full electrochemical potential.

Background: The dilemma of current treatments for symptomatic patients with portal hypertension is how to resolve the problems of the varices and hypersplenism simultaneously and meanwhile preserve the splenic function. Partial splenectomy and pericardial devascularization is a potential alternative to currently used approaches, but it is incompletely defined. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of partial splenectomy and pericardial devascularization.

This study introduced basalt fibres as a reinforcing material and employed notched beam three-point bending tests combined with digital image correlation (DIC) technology to comprehensively evaluate key fracture parameters-namely, initial fracture toughness, unstable fracture toughness, fracture energy, and ductility index-of expanded polystyrene (EPS)-based geopolymer concrete with different mix proportions. The results demonstrate that the optimal fracture performance was achieved when the basalt fibre volume content was 0.4% and the EPS content was 20%, resulting in respective increases of 12.

-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) antagonists, including ketamine, phencyclidine (PCP), and dizocilpine (MK-801), are an important class of drugs that can produce antidepressant, hallucinogenic, dissociative, psychotomimetic, and anesthetic effects in humans and animal models. To understand the effects of NMDAR antagonists on the brain, it is essential to map their actions at cellular resolution. We quantified c-Fos expressing cells in the mouse telencephalon after systemic injection of the potent NMDAR antagonist MK-801 and found a 10-fold higher density of c-Fos in the medial entorhinal cortex (MEC) compared to other regions of the telencephalon.

Effective removal of apoptotic cells, namely efferocytosis, promotes inflammation resolution of periodontitis and tissue restoration. However, effective treatments to enhance macrophage efferocytosis in periodontitis are still lacking. Co-assembly of distinct building blocks is considered a versatile and effective method of modulating the structure and functionality of supramolecular materials.

Serine serves as a metabolic nexus in tumors, coordinating one-carbon metabolism, nucleotide synthesis, and redox regulation. While serine transporters (SerTs) are known to be dysregulated in cancer, their functional nanoscale organization remains unresolved due to the limitation of resolution imaging and available probes. Here, we developed a substrate-based fluorescent probe (Ser-probe) enabling direct stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy of SerTs, revealing malignancy-associated clustering assembly of SerTs that correlates with transport capacity.

Introduction: Glioma is the most common primary malignant tumor of the central nervous system. The mutation status of isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) and the methylation status of the O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) promoter are key biomarkers for glioma diagnosis and prognosis. Accurate, non-invasive prediction of these biomarkers using MRI is of significant clinical value.

Background: Copper nanoclusters (Cu NCs) exhibit considerable potential for biosensing applications. However, their practical application is hindered by low fluorescence emission intensity and inadequate stability. Conventional aqueous-based synthesis methods have shown limitations in addressing these issues effectively.

Global demands for energy-neutral wastewater treatment drive innovation in sustainable nitrogen removal. A single-biofilm membrane biofilm reactor (MBfR) was constructed for efficient aerobic methane oxidation coupled with simultaneous ammonia oxidation and denitrification (AME-AOD). Through meticulous refinement in aspects such as membrane materials and gas-to-feed ratios, the best-performing biofilm achieved a high total nitrogen (TN) removal efficiency of 97 % ± 2 %.

To investigate the independent and combined associations between total physical activity (TPA) and sedentary time (ST) using accelerometer on physical fitness in preschool children. A cross-sectional study involving 375 participants (211 boys, and 164 girls) was conducted. Participants were classified as low- or high-active according to the PA guidelines of 180 min/day of TPA and low- or high-sedentary based on the median ST per day.

Biomass reforming, including glycerol and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural oxidation, converts renewable biomass-derived molecules into value-added chemicals and fuels. This process is crucial for sustainable energy and chemical production, offering a carbon-neutral alternative to fossil-based feedstocks. Integrating biomass oxidation with photoelectrochemistry enables solar-driven reactions, reducing external electrical input and improving energy efficiency.

Alluaudite-type NaFe(SO), characterized by its cost-effectiveness and high operating voltage, has emerged as a prospective cathode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). However, poor electronic conductivity and sluggish reaction kinetics hinder its practical application. In this study, we developed a low-strain spherical NaFe(SO)@C@KB (NFS@C@KB) cathode, enclosed within highly conductive Ketjen Black (KB) using a scalable spray-drying method.

Unlabelled: Osteoarthritis (OA), the most common degenerative joint disease globally, has garnered increasing attention, and emerging evidence implicated ferroptosis played an important role in both its onset and progression. In this study, we identify DDIT3, a ferroptosis-related gene, from the GEO public database of OA patient data. We demonstrate that DDIT3 accelerates articular cartilage degeneration by promoting ferroptosis, making it a viable target for therapeutic intervention.

Medical image translation is of great value but is very difficult due to the requirement with style change of noise pattern and anatomy invariance of image content. Various deep learning methods like the mainstream GAN, Transformer and Diffusion models have been developed to learn the multi-modal mapping to obtain the translated images, but the results from the generator are still far from being perfect for medical images. In this paper, we propose a robust multi-contrast translation framework for MRI medical images with knowledge distillation and adversarial attack, which can be integrated with any generator.
