Foodborne infections caused by microbes are a serious health risk. Regarding this, customer preferences for "ready-to-eat" or minimally processed (MP) deer meat are one of the main risk factors. Given the health dangers associated with food, essential oil (EO) is a practical substitute used to decrease pathogenic germs and extend the shelf-life of MP meals.

The accurate extraction of buildings from remote sensing images is crucial in fields such as 3D urban planning, disaster detection, and military reconnaissance. In recent years, models based on Transformer have performed well in global information processing and contextual relationship modeling, but suffer from high computational costs and insufficient ability to capture local information. In contrast, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are very effective in extracting local features, but have a limited ability to process global information.

  • The technique of fine-grained visual classification (FGVC) has progressed by using attention mechanisms for feature extraction but has limitations, such as focusing mainly on the most discriminative regions while ignoring others.
  • A proposed solution is the saliency feature suppression and cross-feature fusion network model (SFSCF-Net), which aims to enhance model classification performance by exploring interactions between different feature representations.
  • Key components of SFSCF-Net include an object-level image generator to reduce background interference, a saliency feature suppression module to improve feature accuracy, and a cross-feature fusion method that integrates outputs from different layers for better high-dimensional feature representation.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), pneumonia kills about 2 million children under the age of 5 every year. Traditional machine learning methods can be used to diagnose chest X-rays of pneumonia in children, but there is a privacy and security issue in centralizing the data for training. Federated learning prevents data privacy leakage by sharing only the model and not the data, and it has a wide range of application in the medical field.

National Laboratory for Health Security, 6720 Szeged, Hungary.

We provide an study of stochastic viral infection extinction from a pharmacokinetical viewpoint. Our work considers a non-specific antiviral drug that increases the virus clearance rate, and we investigate the effect of this drug on early infection extinction. Infection extinction data are generated by a hybrid multiscale framework that applies both continuous and discrete mathematical approaches.

Through the modified deformation algorithm related to conservation laws, the (1+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) equations are extended to a (4+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) system. When one, two, or three of the independent variables are removed, the (4+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) system degenerates to some novel (3+1)-dimensional, (2+1)-dimensional, and (1+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) systems, respectively. Under a simple dependent transformation, the (1+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) equations turn into the classical sine-Gordon equation.

Laboratory of Cell Fate Control, School of Life Sciences, Westlake University, Hangzhou, China.

Metabolism has been implicated in cell fate determination, particularly through epigenetic modifications. Similarly, lipid remodeling also plays a role in regulating cell fate. Here, we present comprehensive lipidomics analysis during BMP4-driven primed to naive pluripotency transition or BiPNT and demonstrate that lipid remodeling plays an essential role.

Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, HangZhou, 310022, ZheJiang, China.

Article Synopsis
  • This study addresses inefficiencies and high costs in measuring phenotypic parameters of Cymbidium seedlings by introducing an automated method using point cloud technology.
  • The key challenge was developing a segmentation method tailored to the plant's growth structure, involving two rounds of segmentation to isolate tillers and their overlapping parts effectively.
  • The algorithm significantly improves prediction accuracy for five phenotypic parameters—plant height, leaf number, leaf length, leaf width, and leaf area—with accuracies reaching as high as 100%.

Norms have been effectively utilized to facilitate smooth interactions among agents. Norms are usually the global data that agents cannot directly access in complex environments; instead, norms can only be indirectly accessed by agents via maintaining their own beliefs about norms. Establishing norms using decentralized interaction-based methods has attracted much attention.

Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) is a key technology for investigating cell development and analysing cell diversity across various diseases. However, the high dimensionality and extreme sparsity of scRNA-seq data pose great challenges for accurate cell type annotation. To address this, we developed a new cell-type annotation model called scGAA (general gated axial-attention model for accurate cell-type annotation of scRNA-seq).

Article Synopsis
  • This study examines how microplastics (MPs), specifically degradable poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and non-degradable polyethylene terephthalate (PET), change after being exposed to the Yuhangtang River.
  • The exposure results in significant alterations in surface morphology and structure of the MPs, increasing their hydrophilicity and oxygen-containing functional groups over time.
  • Aged MPs show greater biofilm growth, higher levels of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) linked to pathogens, and a different microbial community composition compared to pristine MPs, indicating their role as carriers for microbes in aquatic environments.

To effectively mitigate failures in interdependent systems during targeted-attack scenarios, a common approach is to pre-store repair resources. The question arises: what constitutes an appropriate quantity of these pre-stored repair resources? The paper introduces a novel recovery strategy aimed at providing guidance for this issue. Current recovery strategies frequently emphasize the dynamic interplay between cascading failures and recovery processes, indicating that interventions during the recovery phase are permissible.

College of Environmental and Resource Sciences, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, 310058, People's Republic of China.

In listening tests of noise annoyance, subjects act as "measuring instruments". Noise annoyance of different subjects induced by a same noise sample, or noise annoyance of a same subject induced by a same noise sample in different experimental groups, are different due to the varying psychological scale of subjects. To unify subjects' psychological scale and accurately determine perceived annoyance, it is necessary to investigate the optimal noise annoyance data calibration method.
