Introduction: Copper complexes, as endogenous metals, have potential in cancer therapy, addressing issues associated with cisplatin. Since cisplatin uses Copper Transporter 1 (CTR1) for cellular entry, copper complexes may utilize this pathway to enhance transport efficiency.

Methods: The Cu/Na dipicolinic acid complex was synthesized to assess its cytotoxicity, induction of apoptosis, drug resistance, and inflammation in cancerous and normal lung cells.

Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Yan'an People's hospital, No. 16 Qilipu Street, Baota District, Yan'an, 716000, Shaanxi, China.

Myocardial fibrosis (MF) is a key pathological process driving heart failure, characterized by excessive extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition and impaired cardiac function. Although myocyte-specific enhancer factor 2 A (MEF2A) is implicated in cardiac fibroblast activation, its role in MF remains unclear. We manipulated MEF2A expression in cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) through knockdown and overexpression, and assessed fibrosis markers, migration, and RhoA signaling.

This study rigorously addresses adhesive small bowel obstruction (ASBO), a common yet severe complication following abdominal surgery, marked by fibrous adhesions that disrupt normal intestinal operations. These adhesions often result in profound symptoms including severe abdominal pain and vomiting, and may lead to critical outcomes such as intestinal ischemia and necrosis. It delineates the considerable strain ASBO places on healthcare systems globally, highlighting its frequent occurrence post-surgery and the associated high medical costs and negative impacts on patient quality of life.

Pain, particularly chronic pain, is a major reason patients seek physical therapy. Inflammation plays a crucial role in both the development and persistence of chronic pain. Neuronal PAS domain protein 2 (NPAS2), a core circadian transcriptional regulator, has been implicated in modulating pain-related stress responses.

Ischemic stroke (IS) is a multifactorial disease caused by the interaction of a variety of environmental and genetic factors, which can lead to severe disability and heavy social burden. This study aimed to find potential biomarkers related to T cell exhaustion (TEX) in IS. Based on the GSE16561 dataset, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened from IS and control groups, and their enriched biological pathways were explored.

Background: This study aimed to investigate whether quercetin, in combination with curcumin, modulates the nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) inflammatory signaling pathway in a murine model of esophageal erosive reflux disease.

Materials And Methods: The expression levels of NF-κB and inflammatory factors such as interleukin-1beta (IL-1β), IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) were analyzed using Real-Time PCR. Additionally, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was employed to validate the Real-Time PCR findings.

Deep learning-based key point detection algorithm assisting vessel centerline extraction.

Quant Imaging Med Surg

May 2025

Paul C. Lauterbur Research Center for Biomedical Imaging, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenzhen, China.

Background: Vessel centerline extraction assists in the quantitative analysis of plaque. Current algorithms generate significant errors for tortuous vessels, leading to inaccurate centerline extraction. This study proposed a key point detection algorithm to assist in vessel centerline extraction for the further quantitative analysis of plaque.

Acute carbon monoxide poisoning (ACOP) is a significant contributor to acute poisoning incidents worldwide, with numerous patients suffering from cognitive impairment. Growing evidence indicates that patients with ACOP exhibit both disrupted functional connectivity and corpus callosum (CC) degeneration. Nevertheless, how interhemispheric connectivity is altered in ACOP and how such alterations relate to cognitive deficits remain largely unexplored.

April 2025

Department of Cardiology, Beijing Luhe Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing 101100, China.

To measure the radial artery (RA) diameter and explore its related factors by using optical coherence tomography (OCT). This was a cross-sectional study conducted in Cardiac Care Unit of Beijing Luhe Hospital, Capital Medical University. Patients who underwent first-ever right forearm access and OCT guided coronary intervention via right distal RA, and measurement of the whole portion of RA diameter with OCT in our center between January 2021 to December 2021 were enrolled.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compound preparations play a significant role in the clinical treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC).

Aim Of The Study: Candida albicans (CA) is an opportunistic fungal pathogen responsible for various human diseases, including vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC). Hyphal growth and biofilm formation are critical virulence factors contributing to CA's pathogenicity and drug resistance.

Background/aims: Gastrointestinal diseases present a significant global health challenge and greatly impact healthcare expenditures. Despite alcohol, tobacco, and coffee being universally recognized risk factors for various gastrointestinal disorders, the exact causal linkages have not been clarified because of the predominance of observational studies on this topic. Mendelian randomization (MR) was used to explore to what extent alcohol, tobacco, and coffee increase the risk of developing 13 upper and lower gastrointestinal diseases.

Objectives: To identify reliable indicators to predict the occurrence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and to provide an effective way to prevent it in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), we explored the relationships between triglyceride-glucose index (Ty-G), lipid accumulation product (LAP), lipid accumulation product ratio, and MetS.

Methods: We detected the relationship between the Ty-G index, LAP, lipid ratio, and incidence of MetS. In addition, we classified the Ty-G index and LAP into tertiles to determine the efficacy of these indicators in predicting the risk of MetS.

Background: Compared with conventional transradial access (TRA), distal radial access (DRA) is rarely used for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and may be beneficial to prevent radial artery occlusion (RAO). We aimed to evaluate the incidence of RAO between DRA and TRA 24 h after primary PCI in patients with STEMI.

Methods: This is a single-center, open-label, prospective, randomized controlled trial conducted at Beijing Luhe Hospital, China, between January 2022 and July 2023.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the most common chronic complications in patients with diabetes and remains a leading cause of end-stage renal disease. Despite current treatment strategies focusing primarily on blood glucose control and antihypertensive medications, their efficacy is often limited, failing to halt disease progression effectively. However, Shen-Shuai-Ning (SSN), a traditional Chinese medicine compound, has demonstrated significant clinical efficacy in DN treatment in recent years.
