Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tsung-Dao Lee Institute, Key Laboratory of Artificial Structures and Quantum Control (Ministry of Education), School of Physics and Astronomy, Shanghai 200240, China.

While Andreev bound states (ABSs) have been realized in engineered superconducting junctions, their direct observation in normal metal-superconductor heterostructures-enabled by quantum confinement-remains experimentally elusive. Here, we report the detection of ABSs in ultrathin metallic islands (Bi, Ag, and SnTe) grown on the s-wave superconductor NbN. Using high-resolution scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy, we clearly reveal in-gap ABSs with energies symmetric about the Fermi level.

Numerous parameters influence the slotting performance of slotted cartridge, to facilitate rapid, efficient, and accurate predictions of the slitting performance, statistical analysis of PMMA blasting experiments with six different slitted cartridge parameters yielded 12 evaluation indicators. Subsequently, a principal component analysis (PCA) method was introduced to reduce the dimensionality of the data associated with these indicators, and three new comprehensive indicators were extracted for a comprehensive assessment of the slotting performance. The PCA scores ranked the influence of the six slotted cartridge parameters on slotting performance as follows: decoupling coefficient, slotting width, slotting angle, slotting tube thickness, slotting tube material, and charge amount.

Amplicon sequencing is a popular method for understanding the diversity of bacterial communities in samples containing multiple organisms as exemplified by 16S rRNA sequencing. Another application of amplicon sequencing includes multiplexing both primer sets and samples, allowing sequencing of multiple targets in multiple samples in the same sequencing run. Multiple tools exist to process the amplicon sequencing data produced via the short-read Illumina platform, but there are fewer options for long-read Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) sequencing, or for processing data from environmental surveillance or other sources with many different organisms.

Inverted quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) show great promise for next-generation displays due to their compatibility with integrated circuit architectures. However, their development has been hindered by inefficient exciton utilization and charge transport imbalance. Here, we present a strategy for regulating charge-exciton dynamics through the rational design of a multifunctional hole transport layer (HTL), incorporating polyethylenimine ethoxylated (PEIE) as a protective interlayer in fully-solution-processed inverted red QLEDs.

The single-difference positioning method could eliminate the systematic error of long periods, which is one of the major factors affecting the seafloor geodetic acoustic positioning accuracy. Due to the poor observation geometry in short observation time, there is collinearity in the coefficient matrix. Therefore, a small observation error may lead to a large error in the least square solution, which is the ill-posed problem of single-difference positioning.
