Background: Residential greenness is an important environmental factor potentially influencing the development of allergic diseases in adolescents; however, its impact remains understudied in South Korea. This study aimed to examine the association between residential greenness and allergic disease prevalence using nationally representative data.
Method: We analyzed data from 1,130,598 adolescents (7-12th grade) participating in the Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (2007-2024).

Background: Alzheimer disease (AD) is characterized by amyloid-β plaques (A), tau tangles (T), and neurodegeneration (N), collectively defining the ATN framework. While imaging biomarkers are well-established, the prognostic value of plasma biomarkers in predicting cognitive decline remains underexplored. This study compares plasma and imaging A/T/N biomarkers in predicting cognitive decline and evaluate the impact of combining biomarkers across modalities.

Background: The optimal timing of complete revascularisation for patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and multivessel coronary artery disease remains unclear. We aimed to assess whether immediate complete revascularisation was non-inferior to staged complete revascularisation during the index admission.
Methods: We conducted an open-label, randomised, non-inferiority trial at 14 hospitals in South Korea.

Background: We presented the interim results (6 months) of the trial on the safety and efficacy of poly-L-lactic acid filler (PLLA; Gana V) injection for the correction of nasolabial fold (NLF); however, no long-term follow-up trials through 24 months have been conducted on this topic.
Objective: We aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Gana V, a new PLLA filler, over 24 months for NLF correction compared with Sculptra, a well-established PLLA filler.
Methods: This double-blind, randomized, non-inferiority, and split-face controlled trial was conducted in France.

Background: Very low birth weight infants (VLBWIs) are vulnerable to growth restrictions and neurodevelopmental impairments. Congenital anomalies further complicate these risks; however, their long-term effects remain unclear. This study examined the impact of congenital anomalies on the growth and neurodevelopment of VLBWIs.

Introduction: This multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, commissioned by South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, evaluated the effect of oxiracetam for preventing post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) and explored potential interaction with physical activity using neuroimaging.
Patients And Methods: Patients at high risk of PSCI, reporting subjective cognitive decline ⩾3 months after stroke, were randomized 1:1 to receive oxiracetam or placebo for 36 weeks. Physical activity was tracked via wrist-worn actigraphy.

Background: The Korean National Healthcare-associated Infections Surveillance System (KONIS) monitors multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial infections in intensive care units (ICUs). However, simultaneously monitoring hundreds of ICUs remains challenging. Our study aimed to visualize the trends of MDR gram-negative bacterial infections in ICUs monitored by KONIS.

15-Deoxy-Δ-prostaglandin J2 (15d-PGJ2) plays an important role in cell proliferation and apoptosis with various inhibitory effects. We investigated whether 15d-PGJ2 influence proliferation and apoptosis of human microvascular endothelial cells (HMEC-1), and suppression of the nuclear factor (NF)-κB activity and PI3K/AKT/mTOR signal pathway. Cell proliferation was analyzed using the MTS/PMS and colony formation assays.

Introduction: Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) is widely used for embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS) despite limited evidence regarding its efficacy and safety. This study compared DAPT and single antiplatelet therapy (SAPT) in patients with ESUS during hospitalization (first 7 days) and up to 30 days post-stroke, identifying subgroups that benefit most from DAPT.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data from 4,505 patients with ESUS enrolled in a multicenter registry from 2014 to 2019.

Rationale: Retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) is a rare fibroinflammatory condition that can lead to ureteral obstruction and renal dysfunction. While most cases are idiopathic, secondary causes including malignancies should be considered. RPF secondary to gastric cancer is extremely rare, with only a few cases reported.

ObjectivesImmortal time bias (ITB) occurs when a period during which, by design, participants cannot experience the outcome (like death) is incorrectly included in the treatment group's follow-up, artificially making the treatment look better than it truly is. We aimed to identify a systematic sample of cases of ITB in the literature of studies using survival analysis and assess the impact of ITB on the results.DesignMeta-epidemiological study (PROSPERO[CRD42022356073]).

Objective: Limited evidence exists on type of tobacco use changes and differential health outcomes following the introduction of non-combustible nicotine or tobacco products (NNTPs). Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the characteristics, trends, and health outcomes of exclusive combustible cigarette users and dual users of combustible cigarette and NNTP.
Methods: This study analyzed data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2013 to 2021 ( = 18,763).

Despite the growing prevalence of hypertension due to lifestyle changes and aging populations, with central obesity as a critical risk factor, there is limited research examining the association between central adiposity and hypertension trends. To address this gap, this study analyzed trends in hypertension prevalence among Korean adults categorized by healthy and increased central adiposity based on waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) and investigated the associated risk factors. We utilized data from 98,396 adults aged 30 years and older from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2005 to 2022 in South Korea.

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is known to adversely impact brain health, leading to cognitive decline and brain tissue volume reduction. This study aimed to assess the damage to gray-white matter junction tissue volume (gwJTV) in T2DM patients with and without carotid artery plaques, and its association with various metabolic parameters.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study involving 69 T2DM patients, employing three-dimensional T1-weighted MRI scans to measure brain tissue volumes, particularly gwJTV, and analyzing blood samples for metabolic parameters.

Brolucizumab offers improved anatomical outcomes and extended dosing intervals compared to aflibercept, reducing treatment burden. However, postmarketing surveillance and real-world studies have highlighted safety concerns, including intraocular inflammation (IOI), retinal vasculitis, and retinal vascular occlusion, necessitating risk management strategies. To address these concerns, a comprehensive review of clinical trials, real-world data, and safety reports were conducted by an expert panel.

Mitochondrial complex I (CI) deficiency represents a common biochemical pathophysiology underlying Leigh syndrome spectrum (LSS), manifesting with progressive multi-system dysfunction, lactic acidemia, and early mortality. To facilitate mechanistic studies and rigorous screening of therapeutic candidates for CI deficient LSS, we used CRISPR/Cas9 to generate an 16 bp deletion zebrafish strain. larvae exhibit markedly reduced survival, severe neuromuscular dysfunction including impaired swimming capacity, multiple morphologic malformations, reduced growth, hepatomegaly, uninflated swim bladder, yolk retention, small intestines, and small eyes and pupils with abnormal retinal ganglion cell layer.
