: The aim of our study was to evaluate clinical outcomes in patients with small pleomorphic adenoma (PA) after extracapsular dissection (ED) versus superficial parotidectomy (SP). : Following the PRISMA guidelines, a systematic review covering the years from 1950 to 2025 was conducted using the Pubmed/MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Ovid MEDLINE and Embase databases. A single-arm meta-analysis was performed to evaluate intraoperative capsular rupture, recurrence, transient and permanent facial nerve palsy, Frey's syndrome, salivary fistula, seroma and hematoma of patients who underwent ED vs. those who underwent SP, and funnel plots were constructed to evaluate the robustness of the findings. : Of the 1793 identified papers, 21 articles met the inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis (2507 patients) reported the following: (1) the risk of recurrence is similar in patients treated with ED and SP; (2) the transient facial nerve palsy rate is lower after ED ( < 0.05), while the permanent facial nerve palsy rate is similar with ED and SP; (3) post-operative complications, especially Frey's syndrome ( < 0.05), are more common after SP. : Given the similar recurrence rate and the lower morbidity compared to SP, ED could be considered the treatment of choice for pleomorphic adenomas of the parotid gland that are up to 3 cm in size, mobile and located in the superficial lobe of the parotid gland.

Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is an exceptionally rare vascular tumor with an incidence of <1/million people/year. This case report describes a patient who initially presented with progressive left-sided neck swelling and dysphagia and was found to have EHE at the confluence of the left subclavian and internal jugular veins. Diagnosis was confirmed with a core needle biopsy after an initial inconclusive fine-needle aspiration.

Background: Accurate preoperative differentiation of parotid gland tumors (PGTs) is essential for facial nerve preservation. This study evaluates a novel, real-time multiparametric ultrasound (mpUS) approach combining B-mode, shear wave elastography (SWE), and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), based on qualitative image interpretation.
Methods: Eighty-nine patients with 91 PGTs underwent mpUS prior to surgery or ultrasound-guided biopsy.

Objective: This analysis aims to evaluate the sustained effectiveness of trigeminal microvascular decompression (MVD) in patients with medically refractory Short-lasting Unilateral Neuralgiform Headache Attacks (SUNHA) who demonstrate trigeminal neurovascular conflict (NVC) ipsilateral to the painful side.
Methods: This is a retrospective single-centre analysis of prospectively collected data conducted between September 2012 and March 2025 to investigate the efficacy and safety of trigeminal MVD in consecutive refractory chronic SUNHA patients suitable for surgery. All patients underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with specific trigeminal sequences before surgery.

Orofacial neuropathic pain, a debilitating condition associated with trigeminal nerve injury, is often characterized by allodynia. N-methyl-d-aspartate receptors (NMDARs), particularly the GluN1 subunit, play a central role in mediating this pain. The GluN1 subunit undergoes alternative splicing at exon 5, generating isoforms GluN1a (lacking the exon 5-encoded N1 cassette) and GluN1b (retaining the N1 cassette), which have distinct functional roles.

Varicella zoster virus (VZV) is a single-stranded enveloped RNA virus that is a common cause of chickenpox and herpes zoster. Herpes zoster (shingles) presents with a painful rash in a dermatomal distribution. Ramsay-Hunt syndrome (herpes zoster oticus) is a specific form of shingles, which occurs due to viral reactivation in the geniculate ganglion of cranial nerve VII.
