: The aim of our study was to evaluate clinical outcomes in patients with small pleomorphic adenoma (PA) after extracapsular dissection (ED) versus superficial parotidectomy (SP). : Following the PRISMA guidelines, a systematic review covering the years from 1950 to 2025 was conducted using the Pubmed/MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Ovid MEDLINE and Embase databases. A single-arm meta-analysis was performed to evaluate intraoperative capsular rupture, recurrence, transient and permanent facial nerve palsy, Frey's syndrome, salivary fistula, seroma and hematoma of patients who underwent ED vs.

Background: Rhinophymas are disfiguring disorders of the face that represent the end-stage of sebaceous gland hyperplasia in patients with rosacea. The literature reports different surgical approaches to treat this pathology, but the Microdebrider have proved to be successful in sinonasal surgery as it enables precise control of tissue that needs to be removed, proving to be a safe approach, with good aesthetic results.
Objective: The aim of this paper is to conduct a pilot study on 10 patients with rhinophyma treated with the use of microdebrider, comparing our results with the most recent articles in literature, carrying out a narrative review.
This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluates the surgical, functional, and aesthetic outcomes of scapular free flaps in maxillary reconstruction. The primary objective is to assess early surgical complications, fistula formation, donor site morbidity, dental restoration, normal dietary intake, aesthetic compromise, and eye-related issues. Secondary objectives include total free flap necrosis, the need for revision procedures, and functional performance of the upper limb.

The risk of occult neck metastases for early-stage OCCs ranges from 15% to 35%, hence the need to develop tools that can support the diagnosis of detecting these neck metastases. Machine learning and radiomic features are emerging as effective tools in this field.

This paper aims to outline a feasibility analysis of a novel approach utilizing advanced nanophotonic sensors and AI to address these diagnostic issues. The proposed approach integrates new nanophotonic sensors to tackle the complexities encountered in the early detection of salivary gland tumors.

Consensually, radical surgery is the choice in parotid tumors. Despite improvements in surgical and anatomy-preserving strategies, several complications exist in this surgery.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFOcular trauma remains a significant cause of vision loss, often resulting from penetrating injuries caused by foreign bodies such as glass, metal, wood, and other materials. Despite advancements in ocular surgery, retained intraorbital foreign bodies may lead to delayed complications if not promptly identified and managed. We present the case of a 59-year-old male who reported severe right eye pain and diplopia seven years following a work-related facial injury.

This article presents our management of an 87-year-old patient with medial canthal basal cell carcinoma, highlighting the successful management of such defects through a single-stage reconstruction technique involving a skin graft supported by a synthetic dermal matrix (MatriDerm). The utilization of this approach resulted in favorable outcomes, including clear margins on histological examination and stable esthetic results at 1-year follow-up, emphasizing its efficacy in addressing medial canthal defects secondary to basal cell carcinoma excision.

Original research, review articles, letters, and note articles were included. Data about publication frequency, language distribution, authorship patterns, co-occurrence of keywords, and citation counts were extracted.

We present the case of a 65-year-old male with a history of HNSCC who developed two enhancing brain lesions: one in the right parietal region and another in the right insular region. Initially, the patient was managed with CyberKnife radiosurgery targeting both lesions.

Introduction: The purpose of the study was to analyze the effect of swabs on nasal mucosa.
Methodology: Since May 2020, our department was responsible for screening coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among the employees of a company that continued its activity during the pandemic. The screening protocol consisted of two swabs per week.
Facial trauma can cause skin wounds with uneven and discoloured edges that require healing by secondary intention. These wounds often produce excess collagen fibres, leading to fibrosis and hypertrophic scars that can cause discomfort and negatively impact the patient's quality of life. A man suffered facial trauma due to a motor vehicle accident, resulting in a fracture of the left zygomatic-maxillary complex.

The aim of this study was to retrospectively assess the prevalence of diplopia in ZMC fracture patients, the usefulness of the orthoptic evaluation compared with the clinical finger-tracking examination, and to seek possible relations of this symptom with clinical parameters. Data of patients attending the Maxillofacial Surgery Units of the University of Messina and University of Naples "Federico II", between January 2012 and December 2022 were retrieved.

This study aimed to assess the diagnostic performance of a machine learning approach that utilized radiomic features extracted from Cone Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT) images and inflammatory biomarkers for distinguishing between Dentigerous Cysts (DCs), Odontogenic Keratocysts (OKCs), and Unicystic Ameloblastomas (UAs). This retrospective study involves 103 patients who underwent jaw lesion surgery in the Maxillofacial Surgery Unit of Federico II University Of Naples between January 2018 and January 2023. Nonparametric Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney and Kruskal Wallis tests were used for continuous variables.
