Background: Salivary gland tumors have an incidence of 1 out of 100,000 people every year, representing 2-4 % of the head and neck tumors. Consensually, radical surgery is the choice in parotid tumors. Despite improvements in surgical and anatomy-preserving strategies, several complications exist in this surgery.

Background: This is an observational cohort study on patients affected by malignant parotid tumors treated with total parotidectomy. The aim of our work is to analyze and compare the effects and complications after parotidectomy, using or not SurgiMend ®.

Methods: 40 patients were retrospectively enrolled between September 2014 and June 2020.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation among inflammatory biomarkers, such as the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and the recurrence of pleomorphic adenomas (PAs).

Study Design: This was a retrospective multicenter study. Six hundred eight patients diagnosed with PA and treated by tumor enucleation were included in the analyses.

Introduction: Cancer is among the most frequent pathologies and a major cause of death and disability. Scientific research and surgeons focus mainly on aspects relating to etiopathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment, but often neglect the psychological needs of patients and related social factors. The aim of this study is to investigate the psychological and social needs of patients affected by head and neck cancer to improve patient management and achieve more empathetic care.

Article Synopsis
  • * It analyzed 239 surgical cases and assessed biomarkers like SII, SIRI, PLR, and NLR, concluding that SIRI had the highest diagnostic performance with an AUC of 0.77 and a sensitivity increase when combined with cytological analysis.
  • * The findings suggest that inflammatory biomarkers could enhance the diagnostic process and treatment decisions for challenging cases of salivary gland tumors.

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate how the systemic inflammation response index (SIRI), systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and radiomic metrics (quantitative descriptors of image content) extracted from MRI sequences by machine learning increase the efficacy of proper presurgical differentiation between benign and malignant salivary gland tumors.

Methods: A retrospective study of 117 patients with salivary gland tumors was conducted between January 2015 and November 2022. Univariate analyses with nonparametric tests and multivariate analyses with machine learning approaches were used.

Purpose: The aim of this study has been to describe our experience with pleomorphic adenomas of the parapharyngeal space (PPS) treated with trans-oral robotic surgery (TORS). Tumors arising from the PPS comprise less than 0.5% of all head and neck tumors.
