This study aimed to evaluate the long-term effectiveness of arthroscopic discopexy using resorbable pins in the treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc displacement over a 10-year follow-up period. A retrospective analysis was conducted on thirty-three patients who underwent arthroscopic discopexy with resorbable pins between January 2007 and November 2013. Clinical outcomes, including maximal interincisal opening (MIO), lateral movements (LM), protrusive movement (PM), joint pain with the visual analogue scale (VAS), joint locking, and clicking; were assessed at one, three, and six months and at 1.

Since no MBL inhibitors have been approved yet, the quest for novel, safe, and effective compounds, possibly endowed with broad-spectrum activity against clinically relevant MBLs, represents an urgent clinical need. Inspired by captopril, which behaves as a weak MBL inhibitor, we herein report a continuous flow protocol for the generation of new MBL inhibitors.

Compelling new evidence pointed out the role of epigenetic modifications in TNBC, with recent studies demonstrating that approximately 30 % of human breast cancers could potentially benefit from histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) inhibitor therapy. We herein disclose a novel class of spiro-fused compounds acting as potent and selective HDAC6 inhibitors.

Despite advancements in ocular surgery, retained intraorbital foreign bodies may lead to delayed complications if not promptly identified and managed. We present the case of a 59-year-old male who reported severe right eye pain and diplopia seven years following a work-related facial injury.

Purpose: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) has an impact on health related quality of life (HRQOL). The objective of this study was to examine generic and disease specific HRQOL and symptoms in CRS patients before and 6 months after sinus surgery.
Methods: This prospective, observational study consisted of 30 patients with chronic sinusitis.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation among inflammatory biomarkers, such as the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and the recurrence of pleomorphic adenomas (PAs).
Study Design: This was a retrospective multicenter study. Six hundred eight patients diagnosed with PA and treated by tumor enucleation were included in the analyses.

Multifragmentary and displaced zygomaticomaxillary complex (ZMC) fractures are often a challenge for the maxillofacial surgeon. The aim of this study was to evaluate the improved performance in the management of patients with tripod fracture of the orbito-zygomaticomaxillary complex, using two different methods of virtual surgical planning - virtual reduction and mirroring - compared with traditional management. A cohort of 60 patients was selected and divided into three groups, each consisting of 20 individuals.

Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a highly aggressive breast cancer subtype characterized by the lack in the expression of estrogen and progesterone receptors, and human epidermal growth factor receptors 2. TNBC stands out among other breast cancers subtypes for its high aggressiveness and invasiveness, and for the limited therapeutic options available, which justify the poor survival rates registered for this breast cancer subtype. Compelling new evidence pointed out the role of epigenetic modifications in cancer, prompting tumor cell uncontrolled proliferation, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, and metastatic events.

Accordingly, the design and synthesis of novel epitranscriptomic modulators have started opening a glimmer for drug discovery. m6A is a reversible modification occurring on a specific site and is catalyzed by three sets of proteins responsible for opposite functions.

Here, we report the discovery of a first-in-class pyrazole-isoxazole, namely, , that showed remarkable growth inhibition against the . ATCC 10231 strain in combination with voriconazole, acting as a downregulator of ERG 11 () gene expression with a significant reduction of the yeast-to-hypha morphological transition.

This study aimed to assess the diagnostic performance of a machine learning approach that utilized radiomic features extracted from Cone Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT) images and inflammatory biomarkers for distinguishing between Dentigerous Cysts (DCs), Odontogenic Keratocysts (OKCs), and Unicystic Ameloblastomas (UAs). This retrospective study involves 103 patients who underwent jaw lesion surgery in the Maxillofacial Surgery Unit of Federico II University Of Naples between January 2018 and January 2023. Nonparametric Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney and Kruskal Wallis tests were used for continuous variables.

The retrospective analysis included patients who had undergone preoperative MRI and TMJ arthroscopy at the same hospital. Direct and indirect signs of disc abnormalities on MRI were compared with arthroscopic findings of disc perforation.

Recently, the amount of data supporting the dynamic control of epigenetic pathways by environmental cues has triggered research efforts toward the clarification of their role in microbial infections. Among protein post-translational modifications, reversible acetylation is the most implicated in the feedback to environmental stimuli and in cellular homeostasis.

Aims: This study aims to describe our refined technique of submental intubation to avoid the recorded intraoperative complications related to tube passage and pilot balloon rupture.
Case Series: This is a retrospective case series of 21 patients with complex maxillofacial trauma who underwent submental intubation from January 2019 to January 2023. All the patients underwent to the same procedure with a new technique of pilot balloon protection: the pilot balloon was not deflated because, once the connector was removed, only the tube was curved and passed through the incision extraorally while the cuff remained inflated.

This study aims to describe the utilization of Denosumabࣨ, a human monoclonal antibody against the RANK-L receptor, in a mandibular giant cell granuloma (GCG) with a significant local aggressiveness component that was unresponsive to surgical treatment. We present a case of a 19-year-old male patient diagnosed with Noonan syndrome, who presented a multifocal giant cell granuloma with aggressive behaviour resistant to surgical treatment. Due to the functional and aesthetic implications associated with a surgical procedure, a decision was made to initiate medical treatment using Denosumabࣨ.

Introduction: Facial aesthetics results from the harmony of various components of the craniofacial region, a structure whose physiognomy and topography are determined by a set of hard and soft tissues. Few works in the literature have investigated the relationship between the variables of sex, age, BMI and soft tissue thickness and have considered how these variables may influence operative outcomes. The purpose of this study is to increase the pre-operative knowledge of the thickness of the soft tissues of the face through an analysis of their measurement conducted on cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and to investigate the impact that the variables of gender, age and BMI have on their determination.
