Orofacial neuropathic pain, a debilitating condition associated with trigeminal nerve injury, is often characterized by allodynia. N-methyl-d-aspartate receptors (NMDARs), particularly the GluN1 subunit, play a central role in mediating this pain. The GluN1 subunit undergoes alternative splicing at exon 5, generating isoforms GluN1a (lacking the exon 5-encoded N1 cassette) and GluN1b (retaining the N1 cassette), which have distinct functional roles.

African swine fever virus (ASFV) causes a lethal hemorrhagic disease in domestic pigs and represents a major threat to the global swine industry. Until now, no effective commercial vaccines or antiviral drugs are available for ASF control. In this study, we constructed a recombinant E120R gene-deleted virus, ASFV-ΔE120R, based on the highly virulent genotype II strain SY18, to investigate the biological role of the E120R gene.

Chromoanagenesis encompasses catastrophic genomic rearrangements, with chromoanasynthesis referring to unbalanced germline events involving one or multiple chromosomes, distinct from the mostly balanced rearrangements seen in cancer-associated chromothripsis and chromoplexy. Initially identified via chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) and custom high-density arrays, chromoanasynthesis detection and delineation was improved by next-generation sequencing (NGS). However, the short read-lengths and read-depth variations of NGS limit its fine-mapping capabilities.

Context: Breast cancer metastasis remains a significant challenge in oncology, necessitating novel therapeutic approaches. Rac1 is a small GTPase involved in Wnt-planar cell polarity (Wnt-PCP) signaling and modulation of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and it has emerged as a promising target for inhibiting cancer progression. This study investigates the potential of cinnamaldehyde, a bioactive compound derived from cinnamon bark, as a potential Rac1 inhibitor.

: Previous multi-ethnic genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified the GALNT13 rs10196189 polymorphism as a potential genetic marker linked to sprint-power performance. However, its relevance in East Asian populations, particularly the Han Chinese, remains untested. This study aimed to replicate the association of rs10196189 with elite sprint-power athlete status in Han Chinese males and examine its potential influence on physical performance traits and tissue-specific gene regulation.

Chlorinated polyfluoroalkyl substances (Cl-PFAS) are increasingly detected in contaminated environments, and the relative ease of C-Cl cleavage offers opportunities for defluorination. Herein, we demonstrated, for the first time, the dechlorination of Cl-PFAS by nanoscale zerovalent iron (nZVI), and we revealed that such dechlorination can induce indirect defluorination when Cl is substituted at the middle of the perfluorocarbon chain. The carbanion (-CF-CF-), generated via two successive single-electron transfer steps, is the key intermediate enabling defluorination through β-elimination of F to form alkenyl products (-CF═CF-).

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a joint disorder that severely affects patients' mobility, overall health, and ability to perform daily activities. Despite advancements in therapeutic strategies, stem cell-based therapies for OA still face challenges, particularly in enhancing the antioxidative capacity of stem cells to improve therapeutic outcomes. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the potential of β-sitosterol in this context.

Objective: This study aimed to identify independent predictors of early recurrence (ER) and to establish a clinically applicable, individualized nomogram for patients with solitary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who underwent postoperative adjuvant transarterial chemoembolization (PA-TACE).

Methods: A total of 165 patients with solitary HCC treated with PA-TACE between January 2018 and December 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Among these patients, 71 experienced ER, while 94 remained recurrence-free for over 24 months.

The microstructures, including ion solvation structures and water structures within supercooled water-in-salt electrolytes, determine macroscopic properties of electrolytes, such as ion conductivity, viscosity, and freezing point, thereby affecting the low-temperature operation performance of aqueous batteries. Herein, we developed an variable-temperature liquid time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) technique to molecularly explore the evolution of microscopic interactions within the water-in-salt lithium chloride electrolyte upon supercooling as a case study. We revealed that at -20 °C, the ion solvation structures of Li(HO) and Li(HO), which are the dominant species contributing to the Li ion conductivity, undergo dehydration to form Li(HO).

Phytoplankton-derived dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is a major pathway for atmospheric CO transfer to long-lived oceanic DOC reservoirs. Yet, current models rarely accounted for its molecular and taxonomic heterogeneity across growth seasons. Here, using ultra-high-resolution mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS), we characterized DOC molecular signatures across diverse algal taxa.

Streptomyces species are producers of bioactive secondary metabolites with clinical, agricultural and biotechnological applications. To scale these strains for industrial production, a plug-and-play system that orchestrates multitarget engineering for maximizing cellular contributions to secondary metabolites is needed. Building on the discovery that distinct quorum-sensing receptors within the Streptomyces genus can recognize an identical DNA-binding site, we build a quorum-sensing-triggered promoter applicable across various Streptomyces.

Retinoblastoma (RB), the most prevalent intraocular malignancy in children, severely threatens vision and survival, yet therapeutic strategies for recurrent or refractory RB remain limited. MTHFD2 (Methylenetetrahydrofolate Dehydrogenase 2), one of the key enzymes involved in mitochondrial one-carbon metabolism, is aberrantly overexpressed in multiple cancers. Elevated MTHFD2 expression correlates with poor prognosis in various malignancies, and its depletion significantly suppresses tumor invasiveness and induces programmed cell death.

Background: Sterile gloves, an inexpensive method of hand hygiene, are attributed both protective and useless characteristics concerning neonatal mortality. This study aimed to perform a post hoc secondary analysis of a cluster-randomised controlled trial (cRCT) to examine the association between intrapartum sterile gloves and neonatal mortality.

Methods: Data from the Zambia Chlorhexidine Application Trial, a cRCT of 4% chlorhexidine umbilical cord care in Zambia from 2011-2013, were analyzed.

In this study, a co-reactant-free antifouling electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor was prepared based on a macromolecular heterocyclic compound electrocatalytic material and an electroneutral hydrogel. THPP as a macromolecular heterocyclic compound material, can generate reactive oxygen species (ROS). Luminal as an ECL signal source, coupled with THPP to form a THPP-Lum ECL system without co-reactants, replacing the original luminal hydrogen peroxide system, greatly simplifying the construction process of ECL sensors.
