Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are promising photocatalysts for HO photosynthesis, but charge carrier separation remains a critical challenge. Donor-acceptor COFs enhance charge separation, but the slow kinetics of water oxidation and oxygen reduction reactions lead to carrier accumulation, thereby decreasing efficiency. Here, we report T-C type COFs (T = trap units, C = catalytic units), demonstrating that units with keto-enol tautomerism can serve as dynamic electron/hole traps (T) to mitigate Coulomb forces.

Orbital cavernous venous malformations (OCVMs) are rare, benign vascular lesions found within the orbit, characterized by a cluster of dilated venous spaces surrounded by a fibrous capsule. These malformations can pose significant challenges in diagnosis and management due to their varied clinical presentations, ranging from subtle proptosis and visual disturbances to more severe complications such as orbital hemorrhage and nerve compression. The etiology of OCVMs remains largely unknown, though they are believed to be congenital in nature.

Background: Given the potential for persistent inflammation to induce severe systemic inflammatory consequences, the development of new drugs for the early inflammatory cascade of acute pancreatitis (AP) is particularly important. The aim of this study was to investigate the activity of the JAK inhibitor tofacitinib (TOFA) against AP.

Methods: In vivo, TOFA efficacy against AP was assessed in a mouse model induced by the intraperitoneal injection of caerulein and retrograde pancreatic duct infusion of sodium taurocholate (STC).

Macrophages are the first line of defense in the innate immune system. Macrophages have two subtypes: classically activated macrophages (M1) and alternatively activated macrophages (M2), with different phenotypes and functions. They play a critical role in defending against pathogens and maintaining internal homeostasis.

The injection of flue gas originating from coal-fired power plants into underground strata, wherein carbon dioxide (CO) is adsorbed by coal, achieves multiple effects: inhibiting coal spontaneous combustion, displacing gas, and sequestering CO. To study the chemisorption characteristics of CO on coal surfaces at a microscopic level, models such as the Tashan lignite three-dimensional model and graphene-doped functional group coal model were constructed. The adsorption behavior of coal and CO was simulated using methods such as Monte Carlo, molecular dynamics, and density functional theory.

Due to the utilization of food packaging bags, a substantial amount of polystyrene microplastics (PS MPs) are introduced into the food waste (FW) treatment system during the pre-treatment process, potentially impacting the subsequent biochemical treatment system. In order to investigate the mechanism by which PS MPs affect anaerobic methanogenesis metabolism in thermophilic condition, this study analyzed the characteristics of methanogenesis in thermophilic anaerobic digestion (AD) of FW under different concentrations of PS MPs (100 μm, 10-200 mg/L). The results revealed a negative correlation between PS MPs concentration and methane (CH) yield from FW.

The design of highly efficient photocatalysts to photoreduce nitrogen (N) to ammonia (NH) under mild conditions is extremely challenging. In this work, various molar ratio of molybdenum (Mo) is incorporated into BiOCl via a hydrothermal process. The resulting Mo-doped BiOCl exhibits remarkable solar-driven activity for N photo fixation without any scavengers or sacrificial agents.

Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) has been widely employed for carbon dioxide (CO) and methane (CH) separation, and CO adsorption and storage owing to its high porosity and tunable pore structure. However, its potential to enhance CO-to-CH conversion by grasping CO in hydrogenotrophic methanogenic systems, thereby increasing CH percentage in biogas, remains unexplored. This study synthesized ZIF-8 material and applied it in a biological biogas upgrading system.

Background: Ischemic stroke, a major cause of disability and the second leading cause of death, poses a significant public health challenge. Post-stroke inflammation can harm the blood-brain barrier and worsen neurological deficits, which are key factors in neuronal damage in patients with ischemic stroke. Microglia are crucial in the central nervous system, involved in inflammation, neuronal damage, and repair after cerebral ischemia.

Advanced oxidation processes employing peroxymonosulfate (PMS) show significant promise for wastewater treatment. However, PMS activation typically relies on energy- and chemically intensive techniques due to its relatively low reactivity. Hence, the exploration of novel and energy-efficient approaches, such as the piezoelectric effect, for PMS activation is of paramount importance.

3D assembled carbon materials, featuring unique hierarchical porosity and interconnected channels, are essential for the advancement of emerging zinc-air batteries (ZABs). In this study, nitrogen (N) and sulfur (S) co-doped 3D carbon nanoholes (N/S-CNHs) are synthesized through a straightforward procedure involving self-assembly followed by carbonization. This process utilizes a hybrid of self-assembled covalent triazine framework and sodium lignosulphonate (CTF@LS) as a multifunctional precursor.

Context: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), which is characterized by its malignant nature, presents challenges for early detection and is associated with a poor prognosis. Any strategy that can interfere with the beginning or earlier stage of PDAC greatly delays disease progression. In response to this intractable problem, the exploration of new drugs is critical to reduce the incidence of PDAC.

  • Treatment of relapsed/refractory B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (r/r BCP-ALL) is challenging, but new strategies like blinatumomab are improving outcomes despite high costs and hospital stays.
  • * A study analyzed 19 patients, comparing 14-day and longer (21-28 day) blinatumomab treatment durations, finding similar overall response rates in both groups.
  • * The 14-day treatment shows potential as a well-tolerated regimen with comparable effectiveness, offering a shorter option for patients.

Article Synopsis
  • Letermovir (LTV) prophylaxis significantly reduces the incidence of clinically significant cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT).
  • A study of 230 patients показал that those receiving LTV experienced a higher rate of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) reactivation (27%) compared to those who did not receive LTV (13%).
  • Despite the increased EBV reactivation, there were no major differences in recovery metrics, overall survival, or other complications between the LTV and control groups, suggesting a possible link between LTV use and increased EBV reactivation post-transplant.
