Objective: To investigate the psychological status of the outpatients in the andrology clinic and the effect of risk warning combined with multidisciplinary team (MDT) intervention on their satisfaction.

Methods: Using convenience sampling, we enrolled 600 outpatients seeking medical attention in the Department of Andrology of our hospital from July to October 2022. We randomized the patients into a control (n = 300) and an observation group (n = 300), obtained their basic information, evaluated their psychological status with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and assessed their satisfaction with the Xijing Hospital Outpatients' Satisfaction Questionnaire (HOSQ).

Coumarins constitute one of the most substantial classes of secondary metabolites, characterised by a fundamental α-benzopyranone skeleton, which serves as an overarching nomenclature for o-hydroxycinnamyl lactone moieties. These chemical constituents are widely distributed in various plant species. Based on the nature and loci of their substituents, these compounds can be further classified into simple coumarins, furanocoumarins, pyranocoumarins, isocoumarins, biscoumarins and other coumarins.

Soil salinization poses a substantial threat to global food security, particularly under the influence of climate change, and is recognized as one of the most urgent challenges in land degradation. This study aims to elucidate the challenges associated with managing arid and semi-arid saline-alkali lands in China's Ningxia province and propose feasible solutions. To assess moss crust colonization, we measured changes in organic matter and chlorophyll levels.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is a complex disease involving abnormal liver metabolism. Its strong association with metabolic dysfunction has led to a change in nomenclature to metabolism dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). MAFLD pathogenesis involves abnormal accumulation of hepatic lipids that lead to the production of excess free fatty acids (FFAs), which in turn cause an imbalance in hepatic mitochondrial function.

Background: The diagnosis and treatment of depression in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) is challenging, with no ideal treatment at present.

Aim: To analyze the clinical intervention effect of Xuefu Zhuyu decoction (XFZYD) on CHF complicated with depression.

Methods: The study cohort comprised 116 patients with CHF complicated with depression who received treatment from July 2020 to July 2023, of which 55 received Western medicine (control group) and 61 received XFZYD (research group).

Four previously undescribed diastereomeric lignan glycosides, namely cistadesertosides B-E (1-4) were isolated from the stems of cultural Cistanche deserticola in Tarim desert. The structures of these compounds were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses, including IR, HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D NMR, circular dichroism (CD) data and chemical degradation. The in vitro anti-inflammatory activity of the isolates was also investigated.

Background: More efficient instruments for body constitution identification are needed for clinical practice. We aimed to develop the short-form version of the Constitution in Chinese Medicine Questionnaire (CCMQ) and evaluate for health management.

Methods: First, the short forms were developed through expert survey, classical test theory (CTT), and modern item response (IRT) based on the CCMQ.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers studied survival chances for Chinese kids with a type of liver cancer called hepatoblastoma and looked at a new treatment from 2016.
  • They found that most kids (93.5%) survived well after four years, and younger kids or those without advanced cancer had the best chances.
  • The results showed that if kids had a big drop in a specific blood marker, they tended to do even better after treatment.

Microscopy is being pursued to obtain richer and more accurate information, and there are many challenges in imaging depth and display dimension. In this paper, we propose a three-dimensional (3D) microscope acquisition method based on a zoom objective. It enables 3D imaging of thick microscopic specimens with continuous adjustable optical magnification.

It is essential to understand the occurrence from and plant bioavailability of soil microplastics to heavy metals in soils to assess their environmental fate and risk. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of different microplastic concentrations on the bioavailability of copper and zinc in soil. The relationship between the availability of heavy metals in soil assessed by chemical methods (soil fractionation) and the bioavailability of copper and zinc assessed by biological methods (accumulation in maize and cucumber leaves) in relation to the concentration of microplastics.

Background: Angiosarcoma is a highly malignant soft-tissue sarcoma derived from vascular endothelial cells that mainly occurs in the skin and subcutaneous tissues. Small-intestinal angiosarcomas are rare, and the prognosis is poor.

Case Summary: We reported a case of primary multifocal ileal angiosarcoma and analyze previously reported cases to improve our understanding of small intestinal angiosarcoma.

Depth of field (DOF) and resolution are mutually restricted in integral imaging (II) display. To overcome the trade-offs, we propose an II display system that simultaneously enhances the DOF and resolution. The system consists of a transmissive mirror device (TMD), a semi-transparent mirror (STM), and two II display units.

Background: Germ cell tumors (GCTs) account for 2% of human malignancies but are the most common malignant tumors among males aged 15-35. Since 1983, an association between mediastinal GCT (MGCT) and hematologic malignancies has been recognized.

Case Summary: We report a case in which malignant histiocytosis was associated with mediastinal GCTs.

Recent studies have shown that the expression of integrin-linked kinase (ILK) was related to the occurrence, development, and malignant progression of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). However, research on the relationship between ILK and the chemosensitivity of ESCC has to date not been reported. The present study found that ILK was highly expressed in ESCC cell lines, and the overexpression of ILK in ESCC cells reduced the incidence of cell apoptosis and alleviated the cytotoxicity on cells induced by cisplatin (CDDP).

Article Synopsis
  • Sepsis is a serious condition resulting from the body's improper response to infection, with TLR-4 playing a crucial role in inflammation and immune cell death.
  • Clinical trials using monoclonal antibodies targeting TLR-4 and immunotherapy focusing on inflammatory cytokines have not been successful in treating sepsis.
  • Recent research suggests that the innate immune system is more important for controlling sepsis progression than the adaptive immune system, leading to a proposed shift in treatment strategies and highlighting the potential role of TREML4 in sepsis management.
