T-bet and Eomes, both T-box transcription factors, have been extensively studied for their critical roles in the differentiation and functional maintenance of various immune cells. In this review, we provide a focused overview of their contributions to the transcriptional activation and differentiation, development, and terminal maturation of natural killer cells and innate lymphoid cell 1 cells. Furthermore, the interplay between T-bet and Eomes in regulating NK cell function, and its subsequent implications for immune responses against infections and tumors, is thoroughly examined.

Article Synopsis
  • A phase III clinical trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of different radiation doses (high vs. standard) and irradiation fields (involved field vs. elective nodal) on survival outcomes for patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).
  • Results indicated that there were no significant differences in overall survival (OS) or progression-free survival (PFS) between the different irradiation fields, but the high-dose treatment suggested an improvement in PFS compared to the standard dose.
  • The best prognostic outcomes were observed in the high-dose with involved field group (HD+IFI), while the standard dose with involved field group (SD+IFI) had the worst outcomes, and no substantial differences in severe adverse events were

Article Synopsis
  • Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a common and serious blood cancer in adults, where natural killer (NK) cells are important for the immune response but can be hindered by immune checkpoint changes.
  • This study aimed to assess the role of CD96, an inhibitory checkpoint, on NK cells in AML patients, finding that those with higher CD96 expression had dysfunctional NK cells and produced less IFN-γ, a critical immune signaling molecule.
  • Blocking CD96 improved the ability of NK cells to kill leukemia cells, suggesting that targeting CD96 could help enhance NK cell function and potentially improve patient outcomes in AML.

In this article, we performed symmetry analysis of perovskite-based multiferroics: bismuth ferrite (BiFeO)-like, orthochromites (RCrO), and Ruddlesden-Popper perovskites (CaMnO-like), being the typical representatives of multiferroics of the trigonal, orthorhombic, and tetragonal crystal families, and we explored the effect of crystallographic distortions on magnetoelectric properties. We determined the principal order parameters for each of the considered structures and obtained their invariant combinations consistent with the particular symmetry. This approach allowed us to analyze the features of the magnetoelectric effect observed during structural phase transitions in BiRFeO compounds and to show that the rare-earth sublattice has an impact on the linear magnetoelectric effect allowed by the symmetry of the new structure.
