Objective: To explore alterations in tears and ocular surface throughout Descemet's Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK), thereby offering valuable insights for clinical intervention.
Methods: This study was conducted on 84 patients (84 eyes) with CED and received DMEK who visited the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University from April 2022 to January 2024. All patients were evaluated preoperatively and 1, 3, 6, and 12 months postoperatively, with 31 patients (31 eyes) post-24 months above.
Botulinum neurotoxin serotype A (BoNT/A) is naturally produced by bacteria along with four nontoxic neurotoxin-associated proteins (NTNH, HA70, HA33, and HA17), forming a bimodular large progenitor toxin complex (L-PTC). The BoNT/A-NTNH complex protects the toxin from adverse environment, while the complex consisting of HA proteins facilitates toxin absorption during oral intoxication. How these two independent modules assemble into the L-PTC remains unclear.

This study was conducted to elucidate the mitophagy-related differentially expressed genes (MRDEGs) in corneal endothelial dysfunction (CED) and to identify key hub genes that could provide insights into the disease pathogenesis and potential targeted therapies. To achieve this, CED models were established in female SD rats, and RNA sequencing of coronal endothelium samples was conducted to generate a self-testing dataset. Comprehensive bioinformatics analyses were executed, which included the identification of differentially expressed genes (DEGs), GO and KEGG enrichment analyses, GSEA, and GSVA.

Influenza A virus (IAV) has become increasingly unpredictable in its seasonal patterns following the COVID-19 pandemic. A key challenge remains identifying optimal moments for public health interventions to inform evidence-based decisions. Real-time PCR was employed to quantify IAV concentrations in wastewater samples from 38 treatment plants in Shenzhen, China (n = 2,764), collected weekly from March 2023 to March 2024.

Various studies have shown that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapies are effective means of preventing and treating chronic diseases. The purpose of our study was to analyze the present circumstances of the use of TCM therapies among Chinese patients who have chronic diseases and explore the related influencing factors.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAcute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a highly heterogeneous hematological malignancy that increasingly affects the elderly population, with its post-transcriptional landscape remaining largely elusive. Establishing a stable proteomics-based classification system and systematically screening age-related proteins and regulatory networks are crucial for understanding the pathogenesis and outcomes of AML. In this study, we leveraged a multi-omics cohort of 374 newly diagnosed AML patients, integrating proteome, phosphoproteome, genome, transcriptome, and drug screening data.

The objective of this study is to develop a deep learning (DL) model for predicting pathological grades of ccRCC based on contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT).
Methods: Retrospective data were collected from 483 ccRCC patients across three medical centers.
Background: Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine malignancy worldwide, and recent studies suggest that environmental metal exposure may influence its development. However, existing evidence is mostly observational and lacks causal inference.
Methods: We performed a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to assess the causal relationships between 21 metal elements and thyroid cancer risk in East Asian populations.
Unlabelled: Gut microbiota is one of the largest microbial communities within the human body, yet its origins and early developmental processes remain not fully understood. This study collected samples from 26 mother-infant pairs from the third trimester to 14 days postpartum, using 16S rDNA sequencing and Source Tracker analysis to investigate the dynamic changes and sources of early infant gut microbiota. Results showed that maternal gut microbiota at 32 weeks of gestation was the primary source of meconium microbiota in vaginally delivered infants and continued to influence day-14 gut microbiota, while maternal vaginal microbiota contributed minimally (<1%).

Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2), secreted by inflammatory cells within atherosclerosis lesions, has emerged as a promising biomarker linked to plaque stability. This meta-analysis aims to synthesize current evidence on the diagnostic value of Lp-PLA2 as a biomarker of atherosclerotic plaque stability. Literature were searched from PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, ScienceDirect, SinoMed, Wanfang, and CNKI databases.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with AF were gathered from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care-IV (MIMIC-IV) database, and the X-tile software was used to determine the best cut-off values for BAR. The Kaplan-Meier curves and receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analyses were used to evaluate the prognostic value of the BAR.
The abnormal expression of mA methyltransferase is a significant factor in the occurrence and progression of tumors. The 18S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) mA methyltransferase Methyltransferase-like 5 (METTL5) is upregulated in various cancers, leading to adverse prognosis by abnormally regulating protein translation in tumor cells. However, the functionality and molecular mechanisms of METTL5 in the progression of multiple myeloma (MM) remain unknown.

Fagopyrum dibotrys, commonly known as golden buckwheat, is an economically significant plant with diverse pharmacological properties, including antioxidant, antitumor, and anti-inflammatory activities. However, the mitochondrial genome (mt genome) for golden buckwheat has not yet been sequenced, limiting our understanding of its evolutionary characteristics.
