Purpose: Degenerative lumbar conditions are a leading cause of disability worldwide, often requiring surgery when conservative treatments fail. Data on surgical outcomes from patients' perspectives and influencing factors remain limited. This study aimed to assess 1-year and 2-year Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs) following lumbar spine surgery and identify factors associated with these outcomes.

Its effectiveness in reducing idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN) proteinuria, edema and other clinical symptoms and improving kidney injury has been confirmed by clinical trials and animal experiments. These results demonstrate the critical significance of reducing podocyte injury by regulating mitophagy through integrating ethnopharmacology.

This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of virtual reality (VR)-based interventions in reducing anxiety, pain, depression, fear, and physiological parameters (pulse rate and respiratory rate) in patients with cancer undergoing NRPs.
Methods: A systematic search of 11 databases (CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Embase, IEEE Xplore, Medline, ProQuest, PsycINFO, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and CNKI) was conducted from inception to 15 May 2025.
Background: Many studies have identified the negative psychological impact of in vitro fertilisation and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) on couples with infertility, but there remains a paucity of research clarifying both positive and negative effects within the context of Chinese culture.
Aim: To explore the dynamic psychosocial experiences and underlying mechanisms of couples in the whole process of IVF-ET, and to construct a theoretical framework that elucidates this phenomenon within the context of Chinese social-culture.
Design: A grounded theory study.

Background: Pregnancy poses a significant stressor for married couples. Alterations in marital dynamics may affect the marital adjustment of both parties, particularly in the third trimester of pregnancy. Self-esteem serves as a protective factor for marital adjustment; however, the extent to which dyadic coping strategies, which are jointly enacted by both partners, contribute to this process remains unexplored.

Methods: We studied 293 front-line nurses using scales for perceived stress, social support, insomnia severity, and somatic symptoms.

Aims: Psychological distress is prevalent among patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD), driven by physiological mechanisms, complex treatment regimens, lifestyle changes and death anxiety. Depression and anxiety significantly impact their quality of life (QoL), highlighting the need for accessible psychological support. Internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy (iCBT) offers a promising approach to address these mental health challenges, however, its effectiveness in patients with CVD has yet to be systematically synthesized.

Aims: To evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of an integrated-cardiac rehabilitation programme employing smartphone technology (I-CREST) for patients post-acute myocardial infarction (AMI) compared with a centre-based cardiac rehabilitation (CBCR) programme.
Methods And Results: A two-arm parallel pilot randomized controlled trial was conducted with 50 post-AMI patients recruited from a tertiary hospital in Singapore. Participants were randomly allocated to either the I-CREST or the CBCR group.
Aim: To explore the perceptions and factors that influence intentions to prevent diabetes among at-risk individuals.
Design: A descriptive qualitative study design was used. The Consolidated criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research (COREQ) checklist guided the presentation of findings.
In this study, we clarified the effects of selenium fertilizer application on the growth of cucumber, explored the impact of exogenous selenium on the control of powdery mildew and its pathogens. Selenium-enriched ionic fertilizer and cucumber were selected as the test materials. A one-way, randomized design was adopted to set up four selenium solutions with concentrations of 0 mg/L, 3 mg/L, 6 mg/L, and 12 mg/L to investigate the effects of biofortification with different amounts of selenium concentrations on the growth of cucumber and the occurrence of powdery mildew in greenhouses.

Objectives: To evaluate the prognostic utility of Palliative Prognostic Index (PPI) scores in predicting the death of adults with advanced cancer.
Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted. Six databases were searched for articles published from inception till 16 February 2024.
Background: Lifestyle factors, including diet, physical activity, smoking cessation, and stress management, are crucial for reducing the risk of recurrent cardiac events and promoting overall cardiovascular health. Despite their clinical significance, the experiences of patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) in adjusting to and maintaining these lifestyle changes after their first percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remain relatively unexplored, especially in China. This study aims to address this gap by exploring the experiences of patients with CHD in central China as they make adjustments to healthy lifestyles following their first PCI.

Background: Cardiometabolic conditions including hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidaemia and obesity are significant risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Myocardial fibrosis (MF) is a complication and final common pathway of these conditions, potentially leading to heart failure, arrhythmias and sudden death. Existing reviews explored pathophysiological changes and treatment of MF, but the global prevalence of MF among individuals with cardiometabolic conditions remain limited.

Aims: Myocardial infarction (MI) can lead to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) which frequently occurs with anxiety and depression, impairing daily functioning and increasing the risk of recurrent cardiovascular events. While psychological interventions have shown promise in reducing anxiety and depression, their effectiveness for PTSD in post-MI patients remains unexplored. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to evaluate the effectiveness of psychological interventions on PTSD, anxiety, and depression in post-MI patients.

The integrity of the myelin sheath of the spinal cord (SC) is essential for motor coordination. Seipin is an endoplasmic reticulum transmembrane protein highly expressed in adipose tissue and motor neurons in the SC. It was reported Seipin deficiency induced lipid dysregulation and neurobehavioral deficits, but the underlying mechanism, especially in SC, remains to be elucidated.

Convenient sampling was used to select stroke caregivers who were admitted to the department of neurology, neurosurgery and rehabilitation in a four-3A hospital in Henan Province from September 2023 to April 2024. General information questionnaire, Decisional Self-efficacy Scale, Social Support Scale, Wake Forest Physician Trust Scale and Decisional Conflict Scale were adopted.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFDiabetic kidney disease (DKD), one of the most prevalent microvascular complications of diabetes, arises from dysregulated glucose and lipid metabolism induced by hyperglycemia, resulting in the deterioration of renal cells such as podocytes and tubular epithelial cells. Programmed cell death (PCD), comprising apoptosis, autophagy, ferroptosis, pyroptosis, and necroptosis, represents a spectrum of cell demise processes intricately governed by genetic mechanisms in vivo. Under physiological conditions, PCD facilitates the turnover of cellular populations and serves as a protective mechanism to eliminate impaired podocytes or tubular epithelial cells, thereby preserving renal tissue homeostasis amidst hyperglycemic stress.

Observational studies and meta-analyses have indicated a notable correlation between obesity and vitamin D deficiency, yet the causal relationship between the 2 remains contentious. This study employed a bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to explore the interrelation between obesity-associated body metrics: specifically body mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), body fat percentage (BFP), whole-body fat percentage (WHF), and 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels. Instrumental variables for BMI, WHR, BFP, whole body fat mass (WFM), and 25(OH)D were carefully selected based on predefined thresholds.

The role of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in guiding these decisions is underexplored. This study aims to understand the perspectives of patients and spine surgeons in decision-making for lumbar surgery and explore their perspectives on the relevance and influence of pre- and post-surgery PROs.
