Primary endobronchial epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma: A case report and literature review.

Pulmonary epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma (P-EMC) is a rare type of salivary gland tumour of the lung. Due to its rarity and lack of long-term follow-up data, there is no established standard for optimal treatment or duration of follow-up. The present study reports the case of a 58-year-old female patient with P-EMC originating from the middle part of the bronchus and presenting as an endobronchial mass in the left superior lobe.

Effects of new-type fertilizers and irrigation regimes on carbon footprint of double-season rice system.

To elucidate the responses of yield and carbon footprint of double-season rice production systems to new-type fertilizers and irrigation regimes, we investigated the effects of three new-type fertilizers, viz, controlled-release urea (CRU), nitrapyrin-treated urea (CP), and effective microorganisms (EM) (conventional fertilizer as control), and two irrigation regimes, conventional flooding (W) and shallow water irrigation (W), on yield, greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint of early- and late-season rice by the FAO-CROPWAT 8.0 modeling in combination with field experiments (2020-2021). The results showed that compared to the conventional fertilizer (CK), three new-type fertilizers increased rice yield.

Avian coronavirus infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) comprises eight genotypes with a lack of cross-protection, causing severe economic losses to the poultry industry. Using immunoinformatics methods, five consensus sequence antigens against prevalent IBV strains were designed.

Indole Propionic Acid Regulates Gut Immunity: Mechanisms of Metabolite-Driven Immunomodulation and Barrier Integrity.

Indole propionic acid (IPA) is a functional indole derivative produced exclusively by intestinal flora through tryptophan metabolism. Numerous studies have shown that IPA has a variety of beneficial biological functions, including anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, immunomodulation, intestinal barrier protection, regulation of intestinal flora composition, and neuroprotection. IPA, as an intestinal microbial metabolite, actively participates in the establishment of intestinal immune homeostasis and positively influences the prevention and control of intestinal diseases, thereby playing an indispensable role in regulating host health.

Cluster-Aware Few-Shot Molecular Property Prediction With Factor Disentanglement.

Molecular property prediction plays a crucial role in drug discovery, but is always challenged by the limited number of effective labels. Compared with existing methods, we argue that the auxiliary properties of the molecule and the heterogeneous structure of different property prediction tasks have always been ignored. In this article, we propose a novel framework termed Meta-DREAM for few-shot molecular property prediction, which tailors to learning the transferable knowledge within different clusters of tasks.

Background: E26 transformation-specific variant transcription factor 7 (ETV7) is implicated in various cancers, but its role in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) remains undefined. This study explores the clinicopathological significance and molecular mechanisms of ETV7 upregulation in OSCC.

Methods: ETV7 protein expression was assessed via immunohistochemistry (IHC) in 173 OSCC and 60 non-OSCC tissues.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML), a malignant hematological stem cell disease, arises from the malignant transformation of myeloid progenitor cells. Among the genetic aberrations in AML, mutations in the tyrosine kinase receptor FLT3, especially FLT3-ITD, are most frequently detected and are correlated with poor clinical outcomes. Coagulation and inflammatory markers independently predict in-hospital mortality in aspiration pneumonia patients undergoing bronchoalveolar lavage.

Objectives: To evaluate the prognostic value of serum coagulation and inflammatory markers for in-hospital mortality in patients with aspiration pneumonia (AP) undergoing bronchoalveolar lavage, and to develop a predictive model.

Methods: This retrospective study included 220 AP patients admitted to XianJu People's Hospital between January 2022 and October 2024. Data on demographics, coagulation parameters, inflammatory markers, and in-hospital outcomes were collected.

Construction of a replication-defective recombinant virus and cell-based vaccine for H9N2 avian influenza virus.

The H9N2 subtype of avian influenza is highly contagious, and although it is classified as a low-pathogenic avian influenza virus, its tendency to recombine with other subtypes of avian influenza viruses has made it a potential problem for the poultry industry. Vaccines currently used to prevent this disease are all inactivated, making it difficult to stimulate long-lasting immunity, and have a very weak ability to trigger cellular immunity, thus failing to address the problem of virus shedding. Live-attenuated vaccines are capable of stimulating cellular immunity but carry the risk of recombination with wild-type strains.

Synovial sarcoma extracellular vesicles induce fatty liver.

Synovial sarcoma leads to pathological changes in multiple organs. To investigate the mechanism by which synovial sarcoma induces fatty liver through extracellular vesicles (EVs), the synovial sarcoma SW-982 cells were orthotopically implanted, or SW-982 derived EVs were extracted and used to "educate" nude mice. Liver tissues were then subjected to H&E and Oil-Red O (ORO) staining, and qPCR analysis.

Regulatory mechanism of DNMT3A in interferon expression inhibition by Newcastle disease virus V protein.

Newcastle disease, caused by the Newcastle disease virus (NDV) and characterised by rapid onset and high mortality rates, is a highly contagious disease in the poultry industry. Interferons (IFN) play a key role in host defence against NDV, however, the non-structural protein V of NDV can antagonise IFN to facilitate NDV immune escape. DNA methyltransferase (DNMT)3A, an important regulator of IFN signalling molecules, may participate in the process by which the V protein inhibits IFN.

Fan beam computed tomography-guided online adaptive external radiotherapy for cervical cancer achieves pathological complete response: A case report.

Radiotherapy (RT) is an established viable treatment for cervical cancer across all clinical stages. However, the therapeutic ratio of conventional techniques remains suboptimal due to the anatomical proximity of the cervix to critical pelvic organs. The current study presents a case of pathological complete response (pCR) achieved exclusively through preoperative online adaptive RT (oART) guided by fan beam computed tomography (FBCT).

Time-variant and tissue-level collaterals predict postoperative neurological recovery and clinical outcomes of patients with endovascular thrombectomy.

Background: A comprehensive assessment of collateral status can yield profound insights into the ischemic mechanism in patients experiencing acute ischemic stroke. This study aims to investigate whether time-variant and tissue-level collateral characteristics may serve as predictors for functional outcomes in patients undergoing endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) through the application of machine learning (ML) algorithms, and to stratify postoperative neurological recovery of these patients.

Methods: In this retrospective study, 128 acute ischemic stroke patients characterized by anterior large-vessel occlusion and received EVT between May 2020 and December 2022 were enrolled.

Rationale: Tongfu Xiexia Decoction (TFXXD), a traditional Chinese medicine formula, comprises six herbs: semen raphani, Rehmannia glutinosa, rhubarb, Magnolia officinalis, trifoliate orange, and mirabilite. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of TFXXD on its biotransformation and microbial abundance in the gut of constipated rats.

Methods: Ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS) was used to analyze the biotransformation of TFXXD in the colonic contents, and 16S rRNA sequencing was used to assess the structure and diversity of the gut microbiota across various rat groups.

Establishment of a Triplex qPCR Assay for Differentiating Highly Virulent Genotype I Recombinant Virus From Low-Virulence Genotype I and Genotype II African Swine Fever Viruses Circulating in China.

African swine fever virus (ASFV) poses serious threats to the global swine industry, food safety, and the economy. Since August 2018, different types of ASFVs have successively emerged in China, making ASF diagnostics more challenging. The highly virulent genotype I recombinant virus has gradually become the prevalent dominant strain and is identified by sequencing several of its genes, which is time-consuming and expensive.

Systematic exploration of prognostic alternative splicing events related to tumor immune microenvironment of Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma.

Heterochronic gastric adenosquamous carcinoma combined with colonic adenoma: A case report.

Background: Metachronous gastric cancer usually refers to a tumor that occurs in the stomach more than half a year after esophageal cancer surgery, and metastasis of primary esophageal cancer should be excluded. There are few reports of metachronous gastric adenosquamous carcinoma with signet ring cell carcinoma combined with early tubular adenoma of the colon after esophageal cancer surgery, which has a high degree of malignancy. This is also the reason for the poor treatment results.

Near-infrared (NIR) Fluorophores in Cancer Bioimaging and Therapy.

The development of multiple fluorescent agents has contributed to cancer diagnosis and therapy. Near-infrared (NIR) dyes have already been well studied and displayed significant potential in cancer bioimaging and therapy due to their unique characteristics. In the present literature, we illustrated the updated NIR classification and characteristics as well as their applications in (pre-) clinical cancer imaging and treatment.
