Purpose: We have previously found that vitamin D and resistance exercise synergistically improve type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM)-related skeletal muscle atrophy. This study aims to investigate the impact of varying exercise intensity on synergistic effects of vitamin D and resistance exercise on their efficacy in improving type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM)-induced myopathy, and further elucidate the underlying mechanism.

Methods: We compared the effects of vitamin D combined with low-, moderate- and high-intensity resistance exercise on metabolic status and skeletal muscle function.

Ubiquitination is a modification prevalent in eukaryotic cells. Disruptions in ubiquitination processes can have detrimental effects, potentially leading to diseases that endanger life. E3 ubiquitin ligases specifically recognize substrate proteins during ubiquitin modification, regulating intracellular protein levels and functions through the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway or TGF-β signal transduction.

This research involved the screening and combination of Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter radioresistens, and Klebsiella michiganensis to create a novel compound bacterial agent known as SSF-1. The efficacy of SSF-1 in treating real pig farm wastewater was assessed, focusing on its impact on nitrogen transformation, the structure of bacterial communities, and functional genes. SSF-1 demonstrated stable ammonia nitrogen conversion under both weakly acidic and weakly alkaline conditions, exhibiting superior environmental adaptability compared to individual strains.

Hypertension is a chronic cardiovascular disease that significantly impacts human quality of life. Gut microbiota and its metabolites have been reported to be involved in lipid metabolism and blood pressure regulation, but the specific alterations and pathogenic mechanisms of gut microbiota in obesity-related hypertension (OrHTN) remain unclear. In this study, we observed a significant proliferation of Desulfobacterota and Proteobacteria, while a decrease in the abundance of several butyrate-producing bacterial genera, accompanied by decreased fecal and plasma butyrate levels in high-fat diet (HFD)-induced OrHTN rats.

Epilepsy is a prevalent neurological disorder marked by sudden, brief episodes of excessive neuronal activity caused by abnormal electrical discharges, which may lead to some mental disorders. Most existing deep learning methods for epilepsy detection rely solely on unimodal EEG signals, neglecting the potential benefits of multimodal information. To address this, we propose a novel multimodal model, DistilCLIP-EEG, based on the CLIP framework, which integrates both EEG signals and text descriptions to capture comprehensive features of epileptic seizures.

Tremor-dominant Parkinson's disease (TD) and Essential Tremor (ET) are the two most common types of tremors, posing huge challenges in diagnosis. This study was to investigate the pathogenesis of tremors using brain morphology and employ artificial intelligence techniques for distinguishing them. The cortical thickness differences in TD were primarily centered on the right precuneus, while in ET were mainly observed in the right medial orbitofrontal cortex.

Background: Cardiovascular-Kidney-Metabolic (CKM) syndrome is a multi-stage condition with significant public health implications. The oxidative balance score (OBS), which integrates dietary and lifestyle pro-oxidants and antioxidants, offers a novel approach for evaluating oxidative stress in relation to CKM stages and outcomes. This study aimed to investigate the association between OBS and advanced CKM stages, as well as its relationship with all-cause mortality in a US population.

Objective: This study aims to compare and analyze the effectiveness of different tumor regression grade (TRG) assessment systems in evaluating neoadjuvant therapy for esophageal cancer, with the goal of identifying an optimal assessment method to guide clinical practice.

Methods: A total of 467 patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who underwent neoadjuvant therapy followed by surgical resection were included in this study. We comprehensively evaluated the effectiveness of five TRG assessment systems-Mandard, CAP, Becker, JSED, and Ryan-in predicting the prognosis of the primary tumor (PT) and lymph nodes (LN).

Background And Objectives: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the subthalamic nucleus (STN) is an effective treatment for medically refractory cranial-cervical dystonia (CCD or Meige syndrome). However, clinical responses vary substantially across individuals, likely due to differences in electrode placement and modulation of target neural circuits.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 51 patients with CCD treated with STN-DBS at a single center.

Ureteral stents are prone to encrustation due to urinary crystallization and bacterial infection, leading to severe complications and restricting long-term use. In this study, a multifunctional hydrogel-based coating was developed, which integrates the crosslinking of polyacrylic acid coupled with zinc ions (PAA(Zn)) possessing antibacterial properties and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) with hydrophilic lubrication properties on the PU stent (PPAZ/PU). This novel PPAZ/PU coating was devised to mitigate the challenges of bacterial infectious encrustation associated with stent placement in clinical settings.

Objectives: Heart failure (HF) patients in ICU experience high mortality rates, often complicated by glycemic dysregulation. Time in targeted blood glucose range (TTBR) provides a comprehensive assessment of glycemic control, but its association with outcomes in critically ill HF patients remains unclear.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study analyzed 5396 critically ill HF patients from the MIMIC-IV database.

Due to the limited effectiveness of electrodialysis (ED) in removing organic micro-contaminants, various carbon-based adsorption materials can be utilized to enhance the overall removal performance. Integrating adsorption materials into the ED process may improve removal efficiency and material utilization under the influence of electric field. In this study, uniformly sized activated carbon microspheres (ACMs) with bimodal pore structures were packed into the dilute compartment of an ED system to remove antibiotics while desalting brackish water.

Smart agriculture, which integrates sensing, robotics, and AI technologies, offers a promising paradigm to optimize plant growth and resource efficiency. However, current biological monitoring systems are often bulky, invasive, or require multiple discrete devices, which limits their applicability during early stage plant growth. This study proposes a fully integrated, multimodal flexible sensor system capable of minimally invasive and continuous monitoring of key physiological and environmental parameters, i.
