In this study, we reported the covalent post-synthetic modification (PSM) of a luminescent complex to achieve aggregation-induced emission (AIE), prepared using the Schiff base reaction of TPE-CHO and HLC-NH2, denoted by HLC-NH2-TPE. HLC-NH2 formed a 2D luminescent complex which was constructed using 4,4'-diamino-[1,1'-biphenyl]-2,2'-dicarboxylic acid and zinc ions a solvothermal reaction. HLC-NH2-TPE inherited the luminescence properties of HLC-NH2 and exhibited noticeable AIE properties in response to environmental viscosities and temperature changes.

The aim of this study is to investigate the protective mechanism of pomegranate peel polyphenols (PPPs) in and rat models of T2DM. Our results showed that PPPs markedly improved the symptoms of diabetes, such as insulin resistance, impaired insulin secretion, and pancreatic oxidative damage, which contributed to the attenuation of the symptoms of hyperglycemia in a high-fat diet (HFD) combined with streptozocin (STZ) induced type 2 diabetes mellitus in rats. On the one hand, PPPs promoted the translocation of Nrf2 from the cytoplasm to the nucleus, the key protein down-regulated by the PI3K/Akt pathway, activating its downstream phase 2 antioxidant enzyme system.

Using multifunctional organic ligands with multiple acidic groups (carboxylate and sulfonate groups) to synthesize metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) bearing effective H-bond networks is a promising strategy to obtain highly proton conductive materials. In this work, a highly stable two-dimensional MOF, [CuCu(μ-OH)(HO)(L)(HL)]·3HO (denoted as ; HL = 6-sulfonaphthalene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid) containing mixed-valence [CuCu(μ-OH)] subunits, was successfully prepared. It exhibited excellent stability and temperature- and humidity-dependent proton conduction properties.

Growing evidence suggests that hypertension and aging are prominent risk factors for the development of late-onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD) by inducement of neuroinflammation. Recent study showed that neuroinflammation activated microglia induces reactive astrocytes, termed A1 astrocytes, that highly upregulate numerous classical complement cascade genes that are destructive to neurons in neurodegeneration diseases. Recent research [Wang , 581, 184-189 (2020)] indicates nitric acid (NA) can participate in sulfuric acid (SA)-ammonia (NH) nucleation in the clean and cold upper free troposphere, whereas NA exhibits no obvious effects at the boundary layer with relatively high temperatures. Herein, considering that an SA-dimethylamine (DMA) nucleation mechanism was detected in megacities [Yao , 361, 278-281 (2018)], the roles of NA in SA-DMA nucleation are investigated. Different from SA-NH nucleation, we found that NA can enhance SA-DMA-based particle formation rates in the polluted atmospheric boundary layer, such as Beijing in winter, with the enhancement up to 80-fold.

The C-22,23-epoxy taccalonolides are microtubule stabilizers that bind covalently to β-tubulin with a high degree of specificity. We semisynthesized and performed biochemical and cellular evaluations on 20 taccalonolide analogues designed to improve target engagement. Most notably, modification of C-6 on the taccalonolide backbone with the C-13 -acyl-β-phenylisoserine side chain of paclitaxel provided compounds with 10-fold improved potency for biochemical tubulin polymerization as compared to that of the unmodified epoxy taccalonolide AJ.

Mixing of anthropogenic gaseous pollutants and biogenic volatile organic compounds impacts the formation of secondary aerosols, but still in an unclear manner. The present study explores secondary aerosol formation via the interactions between β-pinene, O, NO, SO, and NH under dark conditions. Results showed that aerosol yield can be largely enhanced by more than 330% by NO or SO but slightly enhanced by NH by 39% when the ratio of inorganic gases to β-pinene ranged from 0 to 1.
