Personalized diagnosis of radiation pneumonitis in breast cancer patients based on radiomics.

Objective: This study aimed to identify CT-based radiomic alterations associated with radiation pneumonitis (RP) and to evaluate the feasibility of machine learning classifiers for personalized RP diagnosis in breast cancer patients using these radiomic signatures.

Methods: A total of 146 planning CT scans (pre- and post-radiotherapy) from 73 breast cancer patients with confirmed RP were retrospectively analyzed. The entire lung was delineated as the region of interest (ROI), and 1,834 radiomic features were extracted using PyRadiomics.

Developmental trajectories of maternal fear of childbirth at different times: a prospective longitudinal study.

Objective: This study aims to uncover the trend of maternal fear of childbirth and its influencing factors in China through a prospective longitudinal study.

Methods: Between November 2022 and March 2023, 229 pregnant women were selected through convenience sampling in a Grade 3 A hospital in Bengbu as study subjects for a prospective longitudinal study. The study subjects completed the W-DEQ A questionnaire to assess their prenatal fear of childbirth in early, mid, and late pregnancy, and the W-DEQ B questionnaire to assess their postnatal fear of childbirth in the postpartum period, and finally, the data were compiled and analyzed by using one-way analysis of variance, latent category growth model, and multivariate logistic regression analysis.

Galectin 3 binding protein (LGALS3BP), also referred to as 90K, is a multifunctional protein that plays significant roles in viral infections, but its role in PRRSV infection is not clearly defined.

Effects of egg white protein-whey protein mixtures on the characteristics and quality attributes of rice flour and rice cakes.

Rice cake is a traditional food known for its unique taste and characteristics, primarily composed of rice flour. However, its single-component formulation leads to several textural and eating quality issues, such as rapid aging and hardening, elevated glycemic index, and poor water retention. In this study, whey and egg white proteins (EWPM) were mixed with rice flour and pure starch in different ratios to investigate their impacts on textural properties, rheological behavior, and digestive characteristics of the rice flour as well as their interactions with starch.

Objective: This research seeks to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Interpersonal Reactivity Index for Couples (IRIC) to ensure it is culturally relevant to China, while also assessing its reliability and validity among a sample of pregnant women and their spouses.

Methods: A total of 402 couples were recruited from two hospitals in Anhui Province. The English version of the IRIC was translated into Chinese in accordance with Brislin's principles of cross-cultural translation.

A non-invasive system can measure nutrient uptake and photosynthate partitioning simultaneously while allowing organisms to metabolize without interference in the process of measurement. Here, we present a protocol for detecting nutrient uptake and photosynthate partitioning in rice seedling using a non-invasive system. We describe steps for preparing plant material and material for the non-invasive system.

The relationship between fear of childbirth and prenatal depression in pregnant women during pregnancy: a cross-lagged analysis.

Objective: To analyze the reciprocal predictive relationship or quasi-causal relationship between fear of childbirth and antenatal depression in pregnant women via cross-lagged modeling.

Methods: Pregnant women who attended prenatal examinations at a Grade 3 A hospital in Bengbu City, Anhui Province, from November 2022 to March 2023 were randomly selected as the study subjects. A total of 219 pregnant women were followed up longitudinally three times during pregnancy using the General Information Questionnaire, the Wijma Expectation/Experience of Childbirth Questionnaire, and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Inventory, and were then statistically analyzed using a cross-lagged model.

Impact of Self-Management Clustered Care on Psychological and Birth Outcomes in Gestational Diabetes.

Purposes: To investigate the effects of a self-management-cluster-based pregnancy care model (SMB-CPCM) on the psychological status and delivery outcomes of pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

Patients And Methods: A total of 120 pregnant women with GDM who had been filed and had regular obstetric examinations in a tertiary-level hospital in Bengbu City between 1 April 2023 and 1 April 2024 were included in the study using the convenience sampling method. Sixty women each were grouped into a study group and a control group using the randomised numeric table method.

Distribution characteristics, source analysis and ecological risk assessment of PAHs in tea garden soil in China.

In this study, we collected 177 soil samples from major tea-producing areas in China, systematically investigated the spatial distribution characteristics of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the soil of these tea plantations and discussed the environmental factors influencing of the PAHs in tea garden soil. The feature ratio method and source analysis methods were used to determine the PAHs source in tea garden soil, and the potential risk of PAHs in tea garden soil was also evaluated. The results showed that the concentrations of the 16 PAHs in 177 samples ranged from 6.

The causal relationship between the gut microbiota and acute pancreatitis: A 2-sample Mendelian randomization study.

Several observational studies have reported a correlation between the gut microbiota (GM) and the risk of acute pancreatitis (AP). However, the causal relationship between them remains uncertain. We conducted a 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study using pooled data from genome-wide association studies of 211 taxa (131 genera, 35 families, 20 orders, 16 classes, and 9 phyla) and AP patients.

Positive feed-forward regulation of nitrate uptake by rice roots and its molecular mechanism.

To investigate the positive feed-forward regulatory mechanism of nitrate uptake by rice, its responses to various light and carbohydrates were compared. In order to measure nitrate uptake in real time, the non-invasive method was used. The results showed that net nitrate uptake increased in the light and decreased in the dark, and finally reached a steady state after about 5 h.

Programmable photoacoustic manipulation of microparticles in liquid.

Particle manipulation through the transfer of light or sound momentum has emerged as a powerful technique with immense potential in various fields, including cell biology, microparticle assembly, and lab-on-chip technology. Here, we present a novel method called Programmable Photoacoustic Manipulation (PPAM) of microparticles in liquid, which enables rapid and precise arrangement and controllable transport of numerous silica particles in water. Our approach leverages the modulation of pulsed laser using digital micromirror devices (DMD) to generate localized Lamb waves in a stainless steel membrane and acoustic waves in water.

Programmable spin and transport of a living shrimp egg through photoacoustic pressure.

In the fields of biomedicine and microfluidics, the non-contact capture, manipulation, and spin of micro-particles hold great importance. In this study, we propose a programmable non-contact manipulation technique that utilizes photoacoustic effect to spin and transport living shrimp eggs. By directing a modulated pulsed laser toward a liquid-covered stainless-steel membrane, we can excite patterned Lamb waves within the membrane.

Optical and acoustic tweezers, despite operating on different physical principles, offer non-contact manipulation of microscopic and mesoscopic objects, making them essential in fields like cell biology, medicine, and nanotechnology. The advantages and limitations of optical and acoustic manipulation complement each other, particularly in terms of trapping size, force intensity, and flexibility. We use photoacoustic effects to generate localized Lamb wave fields capable of mapping arbitrary laser pattern shapes.

Future research of supply chain resilience: Network perspectives and incorporation of more stakeholders.

In recent years, global supply chains face great challenges driven by events such as trade wars, the Covid-19 pandemic, and the Russia-Ukraine War. Since the disruptions caused by such shocks are more systematic and the duration is harder to predict compared to natural disasters or other operational risks, we highlight two features for future supply chain research: network perspectives and incorporation of more stakeholders such as governments that can influence overarching performances of industrial and supply chains. From the network perspective, we review the literature on vulnerable nodes & links identification, risk propagation modeling, network resilience measures, and disruption mitigation strategies.

Sleep deprivation is a common problem during pregnancy, but its impact on the fetus remains unclear. We aimed to investigate the effect of sleep deprivation during pregnancy on fetal outcomes and its mechanism in Sprague-Dawley rats. Sleep deprivation was performed from gestational day(GD) 1-19 using a multiplatform method for 18 h/day.

Investigation for Anxiety and Depression Situation in Couples Receiving in vitro Fertilization and Embryo Transfer (IVF-ET) with Donor Sperm and Associated Influencing Factors.

Background: This study aimed to explore the current situation of anxiety and depression on day of transfer in couples receiving in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) with donor sperm and analyze its influencing factors.

Methods: This study selected 187 IVF-ET administered couples who received donor sperm from our Hospital from August 2021 to July 2022. On the day of IVF-ET with donor sperm transplantation, patients were investigated with general data questionnaire, self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rating depression scale (SDS) to analyze their anxiety and depression scores and their influencing factors.

Kneading-Dough-Inspired Quickly Dispersing of Hydrophobic Particles into Aqueous Solutions for Designing Functional Hydrogels.

Hydrogels containing hydrophobic materials have attracted great attention for their potential applications in drug delivery and biosensors. This work presents a kneading-dough-inspired method for dispersing hydrophobic particles (HPs) into water. The kneading process can quickly mix HPs with polyethyleneimine (PEI) polymer solution to form "dough", which facilitates the formation of stable suspensions in aqueous solutions.

Efficient Degradation of Congo Red in Water by UV-Vis Driven CoMoO/PDS Photo-Fenton System.

In order to improve the catalytic activity of cobalt molybdate (CoMoO), a PDS-activated and UV-vis assisted system was constructed. CoMoO was prepared by coprecipitation and calcination, and characterized by XRD, FTIR, Raman, SEM, TEM, XPS, TGA Zeta potential, BET, and UV-Vis DRS. The results showed that the morphology of the CoMoO nanolumps consisted of stacked nanosheets.

Research Note: A novel peptide-based ELISA for efficient detection of antibody against chicken infectious anemia virus.

Chicken infectious anemia virus (CIAV) is the pathogen of chicken infectious anemia. Currently, due to the lack of effective diagnostics technology and prevention approach, CIAV has spread globally and caused huge economic losses to poultry industry. In this study, a novel peptide-based ELISA (pELISA) for efficient detection of antibody against CIAV was developed.

Improved direct compression properties of water extract powders fluid bed-mediated surface engineering.

Direct compression (DC) attracts increasing attention for tablet manufacturing; however, its application in medicinal plant tablets is still extremely limited. In this work, eight kinds of the water extract powder (GF)-based composite particles (CPs) were prepared with different cohesive surface engineering materials, including dextran, inulin, hypromellose, and povidone, alone or in combination with mannitol and colloidal silica. Their physical properties and compacting parameters were characterized comprehensively.
