Hypoxia represents a critical environmental stressor in aquaculture, significantly disrupting aquatic organisms' physiological homeostasis and thereby constraining the sustainable development of aquaculture industries. To elucidate the mechanisms underlying hypoxia-induced metabolic regulation in aquatic species, this study employed hybrid yellow catfish ( ♀ × ♂) as a model organism to systematically investigate the multidimensional physiological responses in brain, liver, and muscle tissues under hypoxia (0.7 mg/L) and reoxygenation (7.

Background: Anxiety disorders (ADs) and depressive disorders (DDs) are prevalent among older adults with non-communicable diseases (NCDs), yet nationally representative epidemiological data from China remain limited. This study, as a part of the 2013-2015 China Mental Health Survey (CMHS), aimed to assess the prevalence of ADs and DDs and identify associated factors among older adults with NCDs in China.

Method: A total of 5,428 patients aged 60 years and above with reported NCDs were selected from the CMHS.

Background: Emerging evidence underscores the critical involvement of ferroptosis in the pathophysiology of AKI. However, the role of ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs) in AKI remains insufficiently explored. This study sought to identify potential FRGs associated with AKI through bioinformatics approaches and experimental validation.

Background: Mental disorders among the elderly are a growing public health concern contributing significantly to disease burden, disability, and mortality. However, there is a lack of nationally representative studies examining the prevalence and correlates of mental disorders among older adults in community settings. Considering 55 years old is the beginning of "young old", our study targets the population of adults aged 55 years old and above.

Safflower ( L.) seeds, rich in triacylglycerols, have poor fatty acid-to-sugar conversion during storage, affecting longevity and vigor. Previous experiments have shown that the aging of safflower seeds is mainly related to the impairment of energy metabolism pathways such as glycolysis, fatty acid degradation, and the tricarboxylic acid cycle.

Falls are common during stroke rehabilitation, leading to physical injuries and psychosocial consequences. While prior studies have explored the association between falls and life satisfaction, the effect of fall-related injury severity remains unclear. This multicenter cross-sectional study included 6,068 stroke inpatients undergoing rehabilitation.

Objective: Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) disorders are a series of gestational diseases, with severe adverse outcomes. Apolipoprotein A1 (APOA1) is a lipid molecule that plays a role in cell invasion, inflammation and immune response. This study aimed to elucidate the relationship between APOA1 and PAS, as well as its adverse outcomes.

Background: Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are endocrine-disrupting contaminants; however, the impact of BFR mixtures on sex steroid hormone levels in adults remains unclear.

Methods: This study included 2513 male and female adults from the 2013-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Weighted linear regression was employed to examine the associations between individual BFR exposures and total testosterone(TT), estradiol(E2), sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), free androgen index (FAI), and TT/E2.

Aims: To report the prevalence and correlates of anxiety disorders among the elderly population in China; and to describe functional impairment and mental health service utilization due to anxiety disorders.

Methods: Data were derived from the Chinese Mental Health Survey. Weighted prevalence rates of various anxiety disorders were calculated.

Background: Newborns with low-birth-weight may lag behind those with normal-birth-weight in terms of growth, development, and nutritional status, which increases mothers' concerns about the child's future health and leads to anxiety and depression. Providing nutritional support to newborns with low-birth-weight to facilitate optimal growth and development may help alleviate maternal anxiety and depression.

Aim: To explore the effects of nutritional support timing on the growth and development of newborns born under 2 kg and their mothers' anxiety and depression.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), known for their high porosity and tunable properties, have attracted significant interest in enhancing the sensitivity and functionality of plasmonic optoelectronic devices. However, their application in surface plasmon resonance (SPR) fiber-optic sensors remains challenging due to difficulties in the preparation and transfer of large-area two-dimensional (2D) MOFs. Here, a large-area continuous ultrathin MOF film was successfully fabricated using an interfacial synthesis strategy and seamlessly adhered to the tilted fiber Bragg gratings (TFBG).

Sorption-based atmospheric water harvesting (SAWH) offers a promising solution to address freshwater scarcity. Although many solid sorbents exhibit high water uptake capacities, their ability to achieve continuous, all-day water production still depends on complex system configurations. Here, a 24-h SAWH system is presented, enabled by wood-based ionogel (WIG) with simultaneous sorption-desorption functionality.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) serve as critical biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and disease monitoring due to their dysregulated expression in malignancies. However, their low abundance, short length, and high sequence similarity pose significant detection challenges. Here, we present a plasmonic sensing platform that integrates Au@ZIF-8 core-shell nanostructures with a gold-coated tilted fiber Bragg grating surface plasmon resonance sensor.

This study aimed to explore the effects and mechanism of the combination of germination and moderate milling in changing the texture and starch digestion of brown rice (BR). For nutritional profile, the moisture and fat contents decreased in germinated BR (GBR), while further moderate milling (degree of milling, DOM at 1 % and 2 %) increased starch but decreased γ-GABA and vitamin B1 in GBR. Notches and structural damages were observed in GBR and GBR-DOM samples via SEM.

Antibiotic treatment is widely used for gastrointestinal diseases, often leading to drug resistance. However, the underlying mechanisms of drug resistance remain unclear. Mathematical modeling provides a powerful tool to explore the dynamics of antibiotic resistance, yet few models have considered the effect of biological noise, which originates from microscopic interactions between bacteria.

Gram-negative bacteria assemble an asymmetric outer membrane (OM) that functions as an effective barrier against antibiotics. Building a stable and functional OM requires the assembly and maintenance of balanced levels of proteins, lipopolysaccharides, and phospholipids into the bilayer. In , the trans-envelope Tol-Pal complex has recently been established to play a primary role in maintaining OM lipid homeostasis.

Adjusting the tax distribution relationship among governments at all levels in the reform of the fiscal and taxation system will inevitably trigger changes in local government fiscal revenue. Will the fiscal pressures accompanying such changes have a significant impact on the expenditure decisions of local governments? Drawing on the 2002 Income Tax Sharing Reform in China as a quasi-natural experiment, we apply an intensity difference-in-difference methodology to evaluate how fiscal pressure influence county-level education provision. The empirical evidence indicates that counties most exposed to the reform experienced a marked reduction in the proportion of fiscal expenditure devoted to education, with the impact exhibiting a lagged and persistent pattern.
