Background: Overt aggression may be associated with childhood maltreatment (CM), insomnia, and alexithymia, but the underlying mechanisms of these associations have not been fully explored in adolescents with major depressive disorder (MDD). Therefore, the present study aimed to deeply analyze the relationships between overt aggression and CM, insomnia, and alexithymia in adolescents with MDD, to reveal the mediating mechanisms, and to provide a theoretical basis for clinical interventions.

Methods: From December 2024 to December 2025, this study included 251 adolescents with MDD.

Purpose: Genome-wide association studies have uncovered single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) linked to radiation therapy (RT)-induced toxicities in patients with prostate cancer. SNP rs1759902, located in intron 21 of the KDM3B gene, has been associated with late-onset urinary toxicity, with an increased frequency of urination observed 2 years post-RT compared with pretreatment conditions. This study aimed to explore the underlying mechanisms driving this association.

Background And Hypothesis: CKD is one of the most prevalent non-communicable health concerns worldwide, and anemia is a premier common complication of CKD. However, the analysis of its prevalence and years lived with disability (YLDs), and trends in the population on a global scale is lacking. Our study aimed to provide a comprehensive assessment of burden of anemia associated to CKD from 1990 to 2019 and predictions to 2050.

Background: The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index serves as a crucial indicator for evaluating insulin resistance (IR) and cardiovascular risk among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Concurrently, hyperuricemia (HUA) strongly correlates with adverse cardiovascular outcomes. However, the prognostic value of the TyG index, particularly in patients exhibiting both conditions, remains inadequately defined.

Hospital wastewater (HWW) is a substantial environmental reservoir of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and poses risks to public health and aquatic ecosystems. However, research on the diversity, transmission mechanisms, pathogenic hosts, and risks of ARGs in different HWW types is limited. This study involved the collection of HWW samples from 15 hospitals in Hefei, China, which were subsequently categorized as general hospitals (GHs) and non-general hospitals (NGHs).

Unlabelled: Carbapenem-resistant () poses a major threat to global public health. This study aimed to investigate the genomic characteristics and phylogenetic relatedness of colonization and infection with among intensive care unit (ICU) patients. A total of 61 isolates, including 29 non-ICU-acquired and 32 ICU-acquired strains, were collected by active screening and infection culture from 16 ICUs through a multicenter cohort study.

Objectives: This study describes the detection and tracking of emergency neurosurgical cross-transmission infections with carbapenem-resistant (CRKO).

Methods: We conducted an epidemiological investigation and a rapid screening of 66 surveillance samples using the chromogenic selective medium. Two CRKO isolates from infected patients and three from the preoperative shaving razors had similar resistance profiles identified by the clinical laboratory.

Accumulating evidence highlights the key importance of innate immunity in heart hypertrophy and failure. Though stimulator of interferon genes (STING) is an integral innate immunity regulator, whether cardiomyocyte-derived STING driving cardiac hypertrophy and failure has rarely been explored, nor has its underlying mechanism been clarified. Herein, we addressed these two questions through several mouse experiments.

Public Health Nutr

December 2023

Department of Nutrition, School of Public Health, Anhui Medical University, 81 Meishan Road, Hefei, Anhui230032, People's Republic of China.

Objective: Inflammation plays a critical role in the progression of chronic liver diseases, and diet can modulate inflammation. Whether an inflammatory dietary pattern is associated with higher risk of hepatic steatosis or fibrosis remains unclear. We aimed to investigate the associations between inflammatory dietary pattern and the odds of hepatic steatosis and fibrosis.

Objective: The present study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a new two-dimensional shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) method using a Siemens ultrasound system and its combination with the American College of Radiology Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (ACR TI-RADS) for the differential diagnosis of benign and malignant thyroid nodules.

Methods: Conventional ultrasound images and 2D-SWE (E-whole-mean and E-stiffest-mean) were prospectively analyzed in 593 thyroid nodules from 543 patients. Nodules were divided into diameter (D) ≤10 mm and D > 10 mm groups and graded using ACR TI-RADS.

Background: Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are the most common types of leukemia in adults with an overall poor prognosis. PD-1 alone or combined with other immune checkpoint blockade is a promising research direction for the treatment of acute leukemia (AL) patients. However, clinical Implications of aberrant PD-1 expression in peripheral CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes of AML and ALL patients in assessing the prognosis of diseases, remains inconclusive.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examined how common carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) infections and colonizations are in intensive care unit (ICU) patients and what factors contribute to their presence at admission and during the hospital stay.
  • Conducted across 24 ICUs in Anhui, China, the research involved screening patients and applying statistical analysis to identify risk factors linked to CRE colonization/infection.
  • Findings revealed that 5.9% of patients had CRE at admission and 8.5% acquired it during their ICU stay, with several identified risk factors including prior hospital transfers, recent antibiotic exposure, and prolonged ICU stays.

Background: Immunogenic cell death (ICD) is a result of immune cell infiltration (ICI)-mediated cell death, which is also a novel acknowledgment to regulate cellular stressor-mediated cell death, including drug therapy and radiotherapy.

Methods: In this study, TCGA and GEO data cohorts were put into artificial intelligence (AI) to identify ICD subtypes, and in vitro experiments were performed.

Results: Gene expression, prognosis, tumor immunity, and drug sensitivity showed significance among ICD subgroups, Besides, a 14-gene-based AI model was able to represent the genome-based drug sensitivity prediction, which was further verified in clinical trials.
