Amorphous Strategy and Doping Copper on Metal-Organic Framework Surface for Enhanced Photocatalytic CO Reduction to CH.

Chemistry

September 2024

National & Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Applied Technology of Hybrid Nanomaterials, Henan University, Kaifeng, 475004, China.

Amorphous photocatalysts are characterized by numerous grain boundaries and abundant unsaturated sites, which enhance reaction efficiency from both kinetic and thermodynamic perspectives. However, amorphization strategies have rarely been used for photocatalytic CO reduction. Doping copper onto a metal-organic framework (MOF) surface can regulate the electronic structure of photocatalysts, promote electron transfer from the MOF to Cu, and improve the separation efficiency of electron-hole pairs.

National & Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Applied Technology of Hybrid Nanomaterials, Institute of Nanoscience and Engineering, Henan University, Kaifeng 475004, Henan, China. Electronic address:

Element doping has been demonstrated as a useful strategy to regulate the band gap and electronic structure of photocatalyst for improving photocatalytic activity. Herein, ZnInS (ZIS) nanosheets were doped with alkali metal ions (Li, Na or K) by a simple solution method. Experimental characterizations reveal that alkali metal ions doping reduce the band gap, raise the conduction band position, and improve surface hydrophilicity of ZIS.

Artificial photosynthesis is an effective way of converting CO into fuel and high value-added chemicals. However, the sluggish interfacial electron transfer and adsorption of CO at the catalyst surface strongly hamper the activity and selectivity of CO reduction. Here, we report a photocathode attaching zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) onto a ZnTe surface to mimic an aquatic leaf featuring stoma and chlorophyll for efficient photoelectrochemical conversion of CO into CO.

Article Synopsis
  • The electronic properties of metal oxides, specifically their absolute band edge positions and work function, significantly impact their effectiveness in electronic devices and photocatalysis.
  • Changes in these properties, particularly in ceria (CeO), can occur due to varying environmental conditions, such as oxygen availability, affecting ionization potential (IP) and work function (Φ).
  • By employing both theoretical and experimental methods, the study illustrates how factors like defect distribution and surface species influence these electronic properties, emphasizing the importance of electrostatic potentials in understanding the energy levels of metal oxides.

The causal effect and pathways of gut microbiota and plasma metabolome on lung cancer have been important topics for personalized medicine; however, the heterogeneity of lung cancer subtypes has not gained enough attention in previous studies. This study sought to employ a Mendelian randomization analysis to screen the specific gut microbiota and plasma metabolome, which may have a causal effect on lung cancer. We further extended our analysis to estimate the effects of these exposures on various pathological subtypes of lung cancer.

Currently, the microwave absorbers usually suffer dreadful electromagnetic wave absorption (EMWA) performance damping at elevated temperature due to impedance mismatching induced by increased conduction loss. Consequently, the development of high-performance EMWA materials with good impedance matching and strong loss ability in wide temperature spectrum has emerged as a top priority. Herein, due to the high melting point, good electrical conductivity, excellent environmental stability, EM coupling effect, and abundant interfaces of titanium nitride (TiN) nanotubes, they were designed based on the controlling kinetic diffusion procedure and Ostwald ripening process.

Key Lab for Special Functional Materials of Ministry of Education, National, Local Joint Engineering Research Center for High-Efficiency Display and Lighting Technology, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Collaborative Innovation Center of Nano Functional Materials and Applications, Henan

As a potential candidate for grid-scale energy storage technology, aqueous Zn-ion batteries (ZIBs) have attracted considerable attention due to their intrinsic safety, environmental friendliness, and ease of fabrication. Nevertheless, the road to industry for this technique is hindered by serious issues, including undesired side reactions, random growth of the Zn dendrites, electrode passivation, and anode corrosion, which are associated with the high reactivity of water molecules during the electrochemical reactions. These challenges are strongly dependent on electrolyte solvation chemistry (ESC), which subsequently determines the electrochemical behavior of the metal ions and water molecules on the electrode surface.

Promoting innate immunity through pyroptosis induction or the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase-stimulator of interferon gene (cGAS-STING) pathway activation has emerged as a potent approach to counteract the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment and elicit systemic antitumor immunity. However, current pyroptosis inducers and STING agonists often suffer from limitations including instability, unpredictable side effects, or inadequate intracellular expression of gasdermin and STING. Here, a tumor-specific nanotheranostic platform that combines photodynamic therapy (PDT) with epigenetic therapy to simultaneously activate pyroptosis and the cGAS-STING pathway in a light-controlled manner is constructed.
