Vaccines (Basel)

August 2025

Division of Natural and Applied Science, Duke Kunshan University, No. 8 Duke Avenue, Kunshan 215316, China.

Background: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have become a major threat to global public health, with the disease burden particularly severe in developing countries, China being one of them. The preventive and control effects of traditional treatment methods on NCDs are limited, and innovative strategies are urgently needed. In recent years, vaccine technology has expanded from the field of infectious diseases to non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

Cervical cancer remains a significant global public health challenge, with human papillomavirus (HPV) as its primary cause. In response, the World Health Organization (WHO) launched a global strategy to eliminate cervical cancer by 2030 and, in its 2022 position paper, recommended a single-dose vaccination schedule. The objective of this review is to critically examine the current HPV vaccination landscape in China, including vaccination policies, immunization schedules, supply-demand dynamics, and the feasibility of transitioning to a single-dose regimen.

Background: Canine distemper virus (CDV) is a highly contagious, globally distributed pathogen that remains a serious concern even with available vaccines. In Türkiye, reports of CDV outbreaks among vaccinated dogs suggest the emergence of genetically divergent strains. This study investigated CDV prevalence, clinical correlations, molecular characteristics, and phylogenetic relationships in Istanbul, Türkiye, using rectal swabs from 202 clinically ill dogs (2018–2023).

Introduction: Access to safe drinking water remains a critical public health priority, as waterborne diseases continue to pose global health risks. In China, microbial contamination in household water supplies is of particular concern. Traditional culture-based monitoring methods are limited in sensitivity and scope, and scaling such efforts nationwide would demand significant resources.

The yeast-to-filament transition is important for dimorphic fungi to adapt to different environmental conditions. Transcriptional activators that activate downstream target genes in response to environmental stimulations are particularly important for the control of this morphological transition. However, only a limited number of key activators of filamentation have been identified.

Background: Rising cancer rates have amplified psychiatric and psychosocial burdens, with 35%-40% of patients exhibiting diagnosable psychiatric disorders. While digital mental health interventions (DMHIs) present potential solutions for improving emotional well-being in this population, evidence remains fragmented and lacks clarity regarding optimal implementation strategies. This study evaluates the efficacy of digital interventions on mental health outcomes in patients with cancer, with particular focus on intervention duration and stakeholder involvement as moderating factors.

Introduction: Task-shifting and task-sharing strategies show promise for managing chronic diseases especially in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), though their effectiveness in multimorbidity management remains unclear. This study synthesised evidence on task-shifting and task-sharing strategies globally and assessed the impact on core health outcomes in multimorbidity management.

Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of global studies evaluating task-shifting and sharing interventions for individuals with multimorbidity.

Joint effects of PM components during periconception on offspring congenital heart disease risk in Chongqing, China.

Environ Pollut

August 2025

Chongqing Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Chongqing Institute of Preventive Medicine, Chongqing, 400707, China. Electronic address:

Although the association between particulate matter(PM) exposure and congenital heart disease (CHD) has been widely reported, the component-specific effects, critical exposure window period, and multicomponent synergistic effects remain unknown. This study used a case-control design. In our study, we assessed PM and its components exposure concentrations during preconception and first trimester of 9152 pregnancies collected from the Chongqing Municipal Birth Defects Surveillance System.

Ensuring sufficient financial resources for improving effective and efficient procurement of vaccines was highlighted by the Immunization Agenda 2030, which is particularly challenging for middle-income countries (MICs) that are ineligible for support from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. In response to the broader decentralization of the governance system and decreased international development aid, the central government of Vietnam decentralized the responsibility of financing the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) to provincial governments in 2023 but rapidly reversed it considering its following negative consequences, for example, severe vaccine stockouts and the largest decline in childhood immunization coverage in over 20 years. This paper analyzed the consequences closely linked to decentralization in Vietnam, the underlying reasons, and lessons for other MICs.

Background: Due to the high prevalence of mental health issues among university students worldwide, canine-assisted therapy (CAT) has emerged as a potential intervention to reduce student stress and anxiety. This study systematically reviews and meta-analyzes the effects of CAT on reducing stress and anxiety levels among university students.

Methods: Following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, we conducted a systematic search across multiple databases (APA PsycINFO, PubMed, Duke Libraries, CNKI, Wanfang, and Google Scholar) for randomized controlled trials published in English and Chinese.

Background: Ion and water transport in the central nervous system (CNS) is governed by tightly coupled mechanisms involving electrodiffusion, osmotic pressure, and fluid convection. Disruptions to these processes are implicated in pathological conditions. Understanding the coordinated roles of glial cells and perivascular spaces in regulating ionic and fluid homeostasis is essential for interpreting neural function and dysfunction.

Background: Catch-up human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is challenging in many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Pay-it-forward offers an individual a subsidized vaccine, then an opportunity to donate to help others access vaccinations. Our randomized control trial assessed the effectiveness of pay-it-forward in improving HPV vaccination among girls aged 15-18 years in China.

Herbal medicine represents a rich yet complex source of bioactive compounds, offering both therapeutic potential and toxicological risks. In this study, we systematically evaluated the biological effects of three traditional herbal extracts-, , and -using as an in vivo model. All three extracts significantly reduced worm survival, induced larval arrest, and triggered a high incidence of males (HIM) phenotypes, indicative of mitotic failure and meiotic chromosome missegregation.

Introduction: Laryngeal high-speed video (HSV) is a widely used technique for diagnosing laryngeal diseases. Among various analytical approaches, segmentation of glottis regions has proven effective in evaluating vocal fold vibration patterns and detecting related disorders. However, the specific task of vocal fold segmentation remains underexplored in the literature.

Purpose: Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is widely used for brain metastases (BM), but the risk of radionecrosis poses a challenge in post-SRS management. Given the lack of noninvasive imaging methods for distinguishing radionecrosis from recurrence, we aimed to design a deep ensemble learning model that integrates patient clinical features and genomic profiles to identify radionecrosis in patients with BM with post-SRS radiographic progression.

Methods And Materials: We studied 90 BMs from 62 patients with non-small cell lung cancer, with 27 biopsy-confirmed post-SRS local recurrences.
