The global commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions requires reform of existing policies, the formulation of new policies, and concrete policy implementation in every country. This paper provides an early effort to examine the overall readiness of China's 1+N climate policy package to achieve carbon neutrality before 2060 and to explore policy gaps. We use a mixed methods approach, combining a comprehensive policy inventory, an expert survey, and a system dynamics model to analyze the adequacy of China's climate policies.

Background: Since the 1970s, neoliberalism has transformed the global economy, replacing full-time, long-term employment with flexible work arrangements, contributing to precarious employment (PE). PE has been linked to negative health outcomes, but research on the multiple dimensions of PE remains limited.
Methods: This study employed a longitudinal cohort design using data from the Japanese Panel Study of Employment Dynamics (JPSED) from 2017 to 2023, focusing on individuals aged 16-65 who were employed but not on full-time permanent contracts.

Uncontrollable cancer cell growth is characterized by the maintenance of cellular homeostasis through the continuous accumulation of misfolded proteins and damaged organelles. This review delineates the roles of two complementary and synergistic degradation systems, the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) and the autophagy-lysosome system, in the degradation of misfolded proteins and damaged organelles for intracellular recycling. We emphasize the interconnected decision-making processes of degradation systems in maintaining cellular homeostasis, such as the biophysical state of substrates, receptor oligomerization potentials (e.

Input-Output (IO) data describing supply-demand relationships between buyers and sellers for goods and services within an economy have been used not only in economics but also in scientific, environmental, and interdisciplinary research. However, most conventional IO data are highly aggregated, resulting in challenges for researchers and practitioners who face complex issues in large countries such as China, where firms within the same IO sector may have significant differences in technologies across subnational regions and different ownerships. This paper is the first attempt to compile China's interprovincial IO (IPIO) tables with separate information for mainland China-, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan-, and foreign-owned firms inside each province/industry pair.

The relationship between regional human development and geographic environment is the basis for dynamic social change, and studying the evolution of human-land relations in typical regions can provide background knowledge for global change studies. This study is based on GIS and spatio-temporal statistical techniques, combined with the analysis of toponymic cultural landscapes, to study ethnic minority regions of southeastern China. The results show that: (1) The geographical environment of the region will affect the naming of villages, and the orientation and family name are the most common; the frequency of plants, pit (), animals, and flat () is also very high.

Substantial perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) production still occurs in China, and the consumption of aquatic products is a critical exposure pathway of PFAAs in humans. In this study, specimens of 16 freshwater and 40 marine species were collected in the river-estuary-sea environment affected by a mega fluorochemical industry park in China in 2015, and the edible tissues of these organisms were analyzed for PFAA levels. Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) was the dominating contaminant with an overall contribution of more than 90%, and concentrations as high as 2161 ng/g wet weight (measured in the freshwater winkle).

The Clean Air Action implemented in China between 2013 and 2017 strengthened air pollution regulation to an unprecedented level, advancing the country's war against pollution. Although its effect on air quality improvement has been witnessed and evaluated, its influence on employment, which determines the overall desirability and efficiency of the policy, has remained unaddressed with reliable empirical evidence. We provide causal estimates of the aggregate effect of the Clean Air Action, one of the largest and most recent environmental programs in China, on labor demand.

Water and energy consumptions in the residential sector are highly correlated. A better understanding of the correlation would help save both water and energy, for example, through technological innovations, management and policies. Recently, there is an increasing need for a higher spatiotemporal resolution in the analysis and modelling of water-energy demand, as the results would be more useful for policy analysis and infrastructure planning in both water and energy systems.

Chinese provinces ultimately implement China's national climate policies. In the 2000s, there were unbalanced emission transfers (emissions produced in one region but consumed in other regions) between China's well- and less-developed regions, mainly related to demand in the well-developed eastern provinces. In the past decade, the plateau in China's exported emissions and changes in its industrial structure suggest that the features of the provincial emission transfers could have changed.

This article analyzes the role of dynamic economic resilience in relation to recovery from disasters in general and illustrates its potential to reduce disaster losses in a case study of the Wenchuan earthquake of 2008. We first offer operational definitions of the concept linked to policies to promote increased levels and speed of investment in repair and reconstruction to implement this resilience. We then develop a dynamic computable general equilibrium (CGE) model that incorporates major features of investment and traces the time-path of the economy as it recovers with and without dynamic economic resilience.

Residential demand for electricity is estimated for China using a unique household level dataset. Household electricity demand is specified as a function of local electricity price, household income, and a number of social-economic variables at household level. We find that the residential demand for electricity responds rather sensitively to its own price in China, which implies that there is significant potential to use the price instrument to conserve electricity consumption.

The polyclinics debate should recognise the need to balance the benefits of long-term personal doctor-patient relationship with the broader improved health outcomes from evidence based inputs from multidisciplinary teams in primary care. There is increasing evidence from the international health literature that a focus on integrated health systems is the key to better health outcomes both at the individual and population levels, in addition to being more cost effective. Although there is some evidence that other healthcare professionals such as nurse practitioners can deliver equally high health outcomes for patients, the GP role is not an anachronism and even seems increasingly more important in the 21st century given the increasing complexity of primary care and long term conditions.
