Background: Serial perfusion cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) in symptomatic patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) may provide mechanistic insight into dynamic abnormalities of the myocardium.
Objectives: To assess how changes in cardiac reperfusion and remodelling associate with symptom improvement in patients undergoing CABG METHODS: Patients awaiting elective CABG completed serial quality of life questionnaires and detailed CMR at baseline and at 6-12 months post CABG as per protocol. Automated fully quantitative stress and rest myocardial blood flow was calculated, alongside assessment of the visual ischaemic burden.

Hospital readmission prediction is a crucial area of research due to its impact on healthcare expenditure, patient care quality, and policy formulation. Accurate prediction of patient readmissions within 30 days post-discharge remains a considerable challenging, given the complexity of healthcare data, which includes both structured (e.g.

Background: Although higher mortality has been reported among women undergoing coronary revascularization for left main coronary artery disease (LMD), it remains unclear whether contemporary approaches can address these disparities.
Objectives: We investigated sex differences in outcomes using the DEFINE-LM (deferral of coronary revascularization based on instantaneous wave-free ratio evaluation for left main coronary artery disease) registry, in which state-of-the-art management was employed.
Methods: We analyzed 314 patients from an international, multicenter registry, where all patients received state-of-the-art management, including physiology-guided revascularization decisions, intracoronary imaging-optimized drug-eluting stent deployment, or surgical procedures with internal thoracic artery grafts, alongside guideline-directed medical therapy.

Cisplatin is an effective chemotherapeutic drug, but is limited both by its toxicity and its tendency to induce drug resistance rapidly in some patients. Tissue transglutaminase 2 (TG2), which is overexpressed in various cancers, has two main isoforms: a long (TG2-L) and a short form (TG2-S). While TG2-L supports cell survival, conversely, TG2-S promotes cell death.

Accurate interpretation of qPCR data continues to present significant challenges, particularly at low target concentrations where technical variability, stochastic amplification, and efficiency fluctuations confound quantification. The widespread assumption that qPCR outputs are intrinsically reliable, coupled with inconsistent adherence to best-practice guidelines, has exacerbated issues of reproducibility and contributed to misleading conclusions. This may distort pathogen load quantification in diagnostic settings, whilst in gene expression studies, it can lead to overinterpretation of small fold changes.

Widespread antibiotic residues are accumulating in the environment, potentially causing adverse effects for humans, animals, and the ecosystem, including an increase in antibiotic-resistant bacteria, resulting in worldwide concern. There are various commonly used physical, chemical, and biological treatments for the degradation of antibiotics. However, the elimination of toxic end products generated by physicochemical methods and the need for industrial applications pose significant challenges.

Objective: While the factors facilitating and compromising stress coping by civilians in an active war zone and those who have fled it are critical to the experiences of trauma, they are underexplored, which the current article aims to address.
Method: Between March 23 and May 15, 2023, 122 Ukraine-based and 132 Poland-based Ukrainian participants completed a survey measuring different aspects of trauma, social beliefs, and coping.
Results: Compared to the war zone civilians, the Poland-based refugees scored significantly higher in terms of and While no differences between them were found in terms of other factors, regression and structural equation model analyses suggest that the general well-being was compromised in both samples by lower higher , lower and higher did not play a role.

Introduction Acute appendicitis is a leading surgical emergency in children, yet diagnosis remains challenging. The Paediatric Appendicitis Score (PAS) was developed to standardise risk stratification using clinical and laboratory indicators. While its diagnostic accuracy has been validated in controlled settings, its real-world application remains variable.

Introduction: Medical therapy for secondary prevention of stroke has evolved markedly since the landmark North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial (NASCET) and European Carotid Surgery Trial 1 (ECST-1) carotid surgery trials. The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review of stroke outcomes in adults with recent stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) with 50-99% carotid stenosis, treated with modern medical therapy over the last decade.
Evidence Acquisition: A systematic review according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, using a predefined search strategy on MEDLINE, EMBASE, Google Scholar, The Cochrane Database and clinicaltrials.

ObjectivesImmortal time bias (ITB) occurs when a period during which, by design, participants cannot experience the outcome (like death) is incorrectly included in the treatment group's follow-up, artificially making the treatment look better than it truly is. We aimed to identify a systematic sample of cases of ITB in the literature of studies using survival analysis and assess the impact of ITB on the results.DesignMeta-epidemiological study (PROSPERO[CRD42022356073]).

Background/aims: Despite the global burden of functional abdominal pain disorder (FAPD) and its four subtypes (irritable bowel syndrome [IBS], functional dyspepsia [FD], abdominal migraine [AM], and functional abdominal pain not otherwise specified [FAP-NOS]), studies involving an estimation of FAPD prevalence based on the Rome III or IV criteria are limited. Therefore, we aimed to estimate the prevalence of FAPD and its four subtypes.
Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Google Scholar, and the Cochrane Library.

Background: A comprehensive evaluation of short-term effects of antihypertensive medicines is important for informing guidelines and clinical practice.
Objective: We aimed to develop the Double-blind Randomized trials of Effects of Antihypertensive Medicines (DREAM) database to facilitate a series of meta-analyses evaluating the short-term effects of antihypertensive medicines.
Methods: We searched the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, MEDLINE, and Epistemonikos from inception until December 2022 to identify relevant randomized clinical trials (RCTs).

Background: Facial paralysis is a condition that has several etiologies and is associated with significant physical and psychosocial complications. Classically, 2-stage facial reanimation was used to treat patients with unilateral facial paralysis; however, single-stage facial reanimation has seen an increase in use. Studies comparing both techniques are limited, and to the best of our knowledge, no systematic reviews have compared these techniques.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 has intensified efforts to identify emerging coronaviruses (CoVs) across diverse hosts. Spillover events, where CoVs transition from wildlife reservoirs to other species, can lead to infections with varying clinical outcomes, emphasizing the need for continued surveillance. Understanding the diversity and distribution of both known and novel CoVs in wildlife reservoirs is crucial for predicting and preventing future spillover events.
