Introduction: Bovine mastitis, especially subclinical mastitis (SCM), with minimal clinical signs, is detrimental due to its resistance to treatment, recurrence, and substantial economic impact on global dairy industry. The modified form of Huangqi Shengmai Yin (HSY), classical traditional herbal medicine renowned for its effects in antimicrobial and circulatory-enhancing and thus beneficial for subclinical mastitis, has been developed for treatment attempt of SCM, yet its therapeutic effect and mechanism remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the therapeutic effects of mHSY on SCM in cows, and elucidate its potential therapeutic mechanism.

Subclinical mastitis (SCM) is a widespread but frequently undetected condition in dairy cows, leading to reduced milk quality and compromised animal health. This study utilizes an integrated multi-omics strategy encompassing metabolomics and microbiome analyses to investigate the systemic effects of SCM across four biological matrices: blood, milk, feces, and rumen fluid. Our findings reveal significant alterations in hematological and biochemical parameters, with key biomarkers such as digalacturonic acid and N-ε-methyl-L-lysine indicating systemic metabolic and immune dysregulation.

CrRLK1L receptor kinases, particularly FERONIA (FER), play critical roles in plant stress adaptation and hormonal signaling, yet their functional characterization in economically vital crops like Brassica napus remains limited. Here, we identified 108 CrRLK1L family members through genome wide screening in B. napus and focused on BnFERONIA, a homolog evolutionarily conserved with FERONIA orthologs in Arabidopsis and related crucifers.

Background: Zoonotic viruses originating from small mammals pose significant challenges to public health on a global scale. Insectivores, serving as natural reservoirs for a diverse array of zoonotic viruses, are known to carry a multitude of viral species. However, compared to the extensive research conducted on rodents (Rodentia) and bats (Chiroptera), the role of insectivores in harboring and transmitting unknown pathogens remains underexplored, which may lead to a severe underestimation of their contributions and impact to global public health.

In this paper, the contact parameters of beach sand are calibrated based on the discrete element method and the optimal design method, and the obtained parameters by calibration are used as input for the angle of repose simulation. The relative error between angle of repose simulation results and experimental results is 3.27%.

Purpose: To assess the association between hypoglycemia exposure and the risk of developing microvascular diseases (MVDs) in type 2 diabetes patients via continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), aiming to identify optimal hypoglycemia thresholds for improved glucose management.

Methods: A total of 174 type 2 diabetes patients underwent 2 weeks of CGM. Binary multivariate logistic regression assessed the association between hypoglycemia exposure and MVDs prevalence at thresholds of 3.

Silver (Ag) is a precious and valuable metal, and it has many carrier minerals. Through LA-ICP-MS analysis, it was found that jamesonite not only contains lead (Pb) and antimony (Sb) as precious metals but also trace amounts of Ag. In practice, the flotation method is generally used to recover these metals.

Background: is one of the main pathogens of nosocomial infection, among which carbapenems can be used for multidrug-resistant . However, in the past decade, the resistance rate of carbapenem-resistant has increased yearly. Tigecycline has good antibacterial activity in treating severe bacterial infections, but the reports of tigecycline resistance are increasing.

Ester collectors have rapidly developed into the main flotation collectors for copper sulfide minerals since they were developed. In this study, the collecting performance of four collectors, O-isopropyl-N-ethyl thionocarbamate ester (IPETC), 3-pentyl xanthate acrylate ester (PXA), O-isobutyl-N-allyl-thionocarbamate (IBALTC), and O-isobutyl-N-isobutoxycarbonyl-thionocarbamate (IBIBCTC), was investigated through microflotation tests, microcalorimetric measurements, and quantum chemical calculations. The results of the microflotation tests show that IBALTC and IPETC have stronger collecting abilities than IBIBCTC and PXA; the order of collecting ability is IBALTC > IPETC > IBIBCTC > PXA.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the associations between multidimensional sleep features and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Methods: We conducted a systematic search across the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Scopus databases for observational studies examining the association between nighttime sleep duration, nighttime sleep quality, sleep chronotype, and daytime napping with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), up to October 1, 2024. If < 50%, a combined analysis was performed based on a fixed-effects model, and vice versa, using a random-effects model.

Background And Objectives: EUS-guided tissue acquisition (EUS-TA) is the preferred method to acquire pancreatic cancer (PC) tissues. The factors associated with false-negative outcomes and inadequate samples should be explored to gain an understanding of EUS-TA.

Methods: The patients who underwent EUS-TA for suspected solid PC but whose results were false-negative were analyzed.

Article Synopsis
  • Rickettsial diseases are a global health threat, and this study focused on investigating various rickettsial organisms in Yunnan Province, China, from May 2011 to November 2020, examining small mammals, livestock, and ticks.
  • Researchers collected 7,964 samples and found sixteen different rickettsial species, with a 14.72% prevalence overall; 11 of these species are known or potential pathogens for humans and livestock.
  • Certain small mammals, particularly those from alpine regions, showed high infection rates, while different small mammal species carried specific rickettsial agents, indicating a complex relationship between hosts and pathogens.

Molecular dynamics simulations and first principles calculations were performed to study the tribological behavior of graphene/h-BN (G/h-BN) heterostructures with vacancy and Stone-Wales (SW) defect under uniform normal load, revealing the mechanism of the effect of defect types on friction, and discussing the coupling effect of temperature and interfacial defects on the tribological behavior of G/h-BN heterostructures. Under the normal force of 0.2 nN/atom, the friction force of the four systems is 0.

In the digital innovation ecosystem, the symbiosis mode formed between ecosystem members not only relates to their survival and development but also affects the ecosystem's symbiosis evolution mechanism. Based on symbiosis theory, this study first explores the evolutionary equilibrium strategy and its stability for three types of populations-core enterprises, digital platforms, and university research institutes-and then uses numerical simulation and a case study to explore the symbiotic evolution mechanism of the digital innovation ecosystem. The results show that: First, the digital innovation ecosystem is a complex adaptive system in which the three types of populations form different symbiotic relationships under different symbiotic modes and conduct symbiotic activities, such as value co-creation, to characterize the unique symbiotic evolutionary structure.

Dairy cows receiving a prolonged high-concentrate diet express an elevated concentration of lipopolysaccharides (LPSs) in the peripheral blood circulation, accompanied by a series of systemic inflammatory responses; however, the specific impacts of inflammation are yet to be determined. Cecropin-like antimicrobial peptides have become a research hotspot regarding antimicrobial peptides because of their excellent anti-inflammatory activities, and cecropin A is a major member of the cecropin family. To elucidate the mechanism of cecropin A as anti-inflammatory under the condition of sub-acute ruminal acidosis (SARA) in dairy cows, we induced inflammation in bEECs with LPS (10 µg/mL) and then added cecropin A (25 µM).
