Plant hormones are known to regulate the uptake and distribution of mineral elements, including heavy metals, in crops. This study evaluated the effects of exogenous jasmonic acid (JA) and salicylic acid (SA), applied individually or in combination, on selenium (Se) enrichment and cadmium (Cd) mitigation in pak choi ( L.) cultivated in Se-rich and high-Cd soils.

The effects of high-pressure homogenization (HPH, 100 MPa) on the physicochemical and structural characteristics of homogalacturonan non-de-esterified (HG-ND), homogalacturonan de-esterified (HG-D), and rhamnogalacturonan-I (RG-I)-enriched fractions of pectin in strawberry pulp were investigated. Furthermore, the relationship between these pectin fractions and the binding and digestive stability of anthocyanins (ACNs) was analyzed. Following HPH-100 MPa treatment, the yields of the HG-ND, HG-D, and RG-I-enriched fractions significantly increased, accompanied by a slight decrease in the molecular weight (Mw).

Selenium (Se) is an essential micronutrient for human health, but its widespread deficiency remains a major public health concern worldwide. Biofortification of staple crops, such as sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas), offers a sustainable strategy to improve dietary Se intake. This study systematically evaluated the capacity for natural Se accumulation in 12 major local sweet potato varieties in Guangxi, China.

In the presence of artificial oxidants, high-valent Co-X (X = O and NTs) complexes can be achieved in many different types of ligand structures. This paper reports, for the first time, the synthesis, spectroscopic and theoretical characterization, and reactivity of formally Co-(V) and Co-(IV) intermediates without the axial oxo or imido groups by using a strongly electron-donating ligand, PCAPD (PCAPD = bis-[2-(1H-pyrrol-2-carboxamido)--phenylenediamine). The formally Co-(V) complex was prepared by reacting [EtN][Co(PCAPD)-(Cl)] with iodosylbenzene (PhIO) as an artificial oxidant in acetone at -40 °C.

Aldosterone-producing adenomas and cortisol-secreting adenomas are among the most common functional tumors of the adrenal gland. Primary aldosteronism often leads to refractory hypertension and significantly increases the long-term risk of stroke and cardiovascular events. Autonomous cortisol-secreting adenomas are associated with various complications, including hypertension, hyperglycemia, osteoporosis, infections, and thrombosis.

Background: Eps15 homology domain (EHD) proteins, including EHD1 to EHD4, play vital roles in tumor progression. In this study, we aimed to investigate which specific EHD proteins, if any, are implicated in tumor immune evasion and immunotherapy response.

Methods: The immunotherapy responses of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) patients were predicted using tumor immune dysfunction and exclusion (TIDE) analysis.

Glioma, the most common primary malignant brain tumor, is characterized by high recurrence and mortality rates. Its effective treatment remains a therapeutic challenge in clinical neuro-oncology. Despite over twenty years of exploring new therapies for glioma, progress in improving patient survival outcomes has been limited.

Purpose: In locally advanced pancreatic carcinoma (LAPC), combining chemotherapy with photon radiation therapy has not demonstrated survival benefits over chemotherapy alone. Conversely, carbon ion radiation therapy (CIRT) has shown encouraging outcomes from Japanese studies. The purpose of this trial was to assess the efficacy and toxicities of CIRT combined with chemotherapy in LAPC through a prospective phase 2 clinical trial.

Objectives: To explore negative affective prosody production patterns in older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and identify acoustic features as objective biomarkers for cognitive performances.

Methods: We recruited 42 older adults with MCI and 29 healthy controls (HC). The cognitive performances were assessed with the auditory verbal learning test-HuaShan version, the Trail Making Test A, the Digit Span-Forward, and the Digit Span-Backward.

Purpose: This review aims to systematically assess the existing body of research on pain empathy among healthcare workers and patients, with the goal of enhancing both understanding and clinical application.

Methods: Studies were retrieved from seven databases: PubMed, EBSCO, The Cochrane Library, Embase, CBM, CNKI, and Wanfang, with a search date limit from database inception to September 13, 2024. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were established based on the PCCs (Population, Concept, Context, Study design) principle.

Background: Given the paucity of appropriate patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) to assess the multidimensional rehabilitation status of people with schizophrenia in day rehabilitation centres (DRCs) in China, the present study aimed to develop a PROM specifically designed for people with schizophrenia in DRCs (SDRC-PROM) and evaluate its psychometric properties.

Methods: The development process of the SDRC-PROM was in accordance with the guideline established by the US Food and Drug Administration and the guideline outlined in the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health status Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) checklist. Participants with schizophrenia were recruited from six DRCs in Nanjing, China.

Mercury (Hg) contamination of rice poses a health risk to consumers. Sustainable use of Hg-contaminated farmland is necessary to meet increasing demand for safe rice caused by rapid population growth. Ridge tillage is a water-saving tillage method that rice is planted on raised ridges, typically with furrows between them.

This study investigated the interactions between different structural regional fractions of pectin, specifically homogalacturonan (HG) and rhamnogalacturonan-I (RG-I) fractions, and three anthocyanin monomers: cyanidin-3-O-glucoside (C3G), peonidin-3-O-glucoside (P3G), and pelargonidin-3-O-malonylglucoside (P3M). The binding ratios, physicochemical and structural characteristics of these pectin-anthocyanin complexes, and their binding mechanisms were analyzed. The HG fraction exhibited the highest binding ratio with C3G.

Diabetes mellitus, as a common chronic disease, easily leads to significant changes in the structure of the eye, among which diabetic cataract is particularly common. Although surgery is the main treatment for this complication, it may be accompanied by postoperative complications. Therefore, it is particularly important to develop specific drugs for diabetic cataract, aiming to fundamentally reduce its incidence and reduce the need for surgery.

The redbelly tilapia () is one of the most dangerous invasive alien fishes in the world. In order to better understand the feeding patterns of invasive populations in different habitats and seasons, and to reveal the possible force of differences in dietary composition among populations, we used DNA metabarcoding technology to analyze the dietary composition of 23 specimens from five different water bodies (two rivers and three reservoirs) in southern China, and 60 specimens from Shuikou Reservoir in four seasons (spring, summer, fall, and winter). The results showed that samples from five different water bodies and four seasons in Shuikou Reservoir were annotated to a total of 22 and 37 phyla of food categories, respectively.
