The development of efficient and eco-friendly solid catalysts with strong Lewis acid sites for permanganate (KMnO) activation is highly desired for pollutant removal. In this study, the oxygen vacancy (O) content of cryptomelane-type manganese oxide, was modulated by Ce doping to promote its Lewis acidity. The findings show that incorporating Ce into the framework of MnO octahedra inhibits the growth of the catalyst to form a completely amorphous structure, with the increase of O ratio, especially bulk O content.

Plasticizer migration is a significant issue in the utilization of polymer materials. For cellulose derivatives substituted with two or more different groups, such as cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB), the varying proportions of acetyl and butyryl groups lead to different chemical structures, which influence the plasticizer migration properties. This paper investigates the effects of the butyryl substitution degree on plasticizer migration properties through experimental testing and molecular dynamics simulations.

Mitochondria are central to energy production and redox regulation in spermatozoa, supporting key functions such as progressive motility, capacitation, and the acrosome reaction. These processes are essential for successful fertilization and embryo development. However, species-specific differences exist in the reliance on oxidative phosphorylation versus glycolysis.

Background: Family integrated care (FIC) encourages parental involvement in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) and has been found to promote weight gain in preterm infants. Extrauterine growth restriction (EUGR) results from inadequate growth among very low birth weight infants (VLBWI), which has been found to contribute to parental anxiety. To address an existing gap in research, we aimed to examine the impact of parental involvement on EUGR at discharge in VLBWI.

The management of complicated crown-root fractures of immature permanent teeth requires a multidisciplinary approach to address biological, functional, and aesthetic concerns. A 10-year-old boy suffered a complicated crown-root fracture of tooth 11, an uncomplicated crown fracture, subluxation and pulp necrosis of tooth 21 and subluxation of tooth 22 after falling from a bicycle. The treatment for tooth 11 involved maintaining pulp vitality with partial pulpotomy and re-attachment of the crown-root fragment after modified crown-lengthening surgery.

Moisture responsive soft actuators are receiving increasing attention due to their unique potential in reducing external energy dependence and carbon footprint. For the conventional moisture responsive soft actuators, their bending deformation under moisture stimulation is usually bidirectional, and the orientation of the bending axis is random. Achieving a moisture responsive monolithic actuator with controllable unidirectional deformation remains a challenge.

The development of efficient methods for sensing αlpha-glucosidase (α-Glu) and screening its inhibitors has attracted significant attention due to their pivotal role in discovering therapeutic medicines for Type 2 diabetes. Herein, a low-cost and sensitive fluorometric strategy based on red carbon dots (R-CDs) and cobalt oxyhydroxide nanosheets (CoOOH NSs) had been established to detect α-Glu and screen its inhibitory compounds in natural products. As a switched fluorescence source, the fluorescence of R-CDs at 625 nm could be quenched by CoOOH NSs via Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET), assembled into nonfluorescent R-CDs@CoOOH nanocompositecomposites (R-CDs@CoOOH NCs).

Background: MRP8/14, a calcium-binding protein of the S100 family, is predominantly expressed in myeloid cells and exhibits proinflammatory and prothrombotic properties. Platelet-neutrophil interactions can trigger MRP8/14 release, but their role in atherosclerosis (AS) remains unclear.

Aims: To investigate the effect of MRP8/14 on AS progression and the underlying mechanisms involved, focusing on neutrophil activation and the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)-ERK1/2-p90RSK and NRF2-ARE pathways.

The cyber-physical deep coupling makes distribution systems face severe operation risks under small-probability and high-impact disasters. To enhance the resilience of cyber-physical distribution systems against typhoons, this paper proposes a resilience-oriented robust optimization model, in which planning-operational restoration measures are incorporated into a prevention and emergency response framework. In the prevention response stage, line hardening, battery storage systems and soft open point deployment, as well as wireless communication configuration are conducted before typhoons.

Zearalenone (ZEN), a common mycotoxin, is prevalent in food and agricultural by-products, presenting considerable health risks. A novel strategy was established in this research based on the computer-aided design synthesis of Poly(DES)@MIL-101-NH(Cr) for effective removal of ZEN. Initially, the optimal ratio of template molecules to deep eutectic solvents (DES) was predicted using density functional theory (DFT), and Poly(DES)@MIL-101-NH(Cr) was synthesized through surface imprinting technology.

The exceedingly rare clinical presentation of synchronous ascending colon carcinoma with duodenal adenocarcinoma demonstrating discordant mismatch repair protein expression patterns forms the cornerstone of this investigation. Through detailed analysis of a unique case featuring co-occurring MSS/pMMR ascending colon adenocarcinoma and MSI-H/dMMR duodenal adenocarcinoma, this study demonstrates the successful implementation of multidisciplinary therapeutic protocols achieving 22-month progression-free survival post-radical resection. These clinical findings offer empirical evidence for optimizing clinical management while systematically addressing diagnostic complexities and treatment dilemmas inherent to synchronous dual primary intestinal carcinomas.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have emerged as key regulators in mammalian pregnancy, influencing crucial processes such as placental development, immune modulation, and hormonal regulation. Their unique covalently closed-loop structure confers exceptional stability, making them ideal candidates as non-invasive biomarkers for monitoring pregnancy progression and diagnosing complications. This review explores the physiological roles of circRNAs during pregnancy, highlighting their involvement in trophoblast invasion, angiogenesis, and maternal-fetal communication.

Understanding the kinetics of polymorphic transitions is critical for predicting and controlling phase behavior in functional materials. Although terahertz spectroscopy has been established as a reliable technique for identifying polymorphic forms, its application in analyzing transition kinetics remains underexplored. In this study, terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) was employed to monitor the thermally induced β-to-δ polymorphic transition in HMX.

Cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction, heart failure, and cardiomyopathy, persist as a leading global cause of death. Current treatment options have inherent limitations, particularly in terms of cardiac regeneration due to the limited regenerative capacity of adult human hearts. The transplantation of pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (PSC-CMs) has emerged as a promising and potential solution to address this challenge.

The cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS) and Stimulator of Interferon Genes (STING) signaling pathway are critical regulators of inflammation. This study aims to investigate the role of the cGAS-STING signaling pathway in diabetic dry eye (DDE) disease and further explore the therapeutic efficacy and underlying mechanism of fenofibrate in DDE. Using single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-Seq) data from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, combined with the STZ-induced DDE mouse model and high-glucose conditions in immortalized human corneal epithelial cells (HCE-T), we observed mitochondrial damage and significantly elevated cytoplasmic mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) in the diabetic cornea, and identified that the cGAS-STING signaling pathway plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of DDE.
