Background And Objective: To understand the prevalence and risk factors of acute symptomatic seizures (ASSs) and epilepsy in children with central nervous system inflammatory demyelinating diseases (CIDDs).
Methods: The cohort of children with CIDDs in pediatric department of Peking University First Hospital between January 2013 and June 2024 were followed up. We evaluated and compared the incidence of ASSs among patients with different CIDDs.
Purpose: To evaluate the relationship between anterior chamber biometric parameters (angle-to-angle diameter [ATA] and anterior chamber width [ACW]) and the sulcus-to-sulcus diameter (STS) in myopic patients with varying axial length (AL).
Methods: A 50-MHz ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) device measured STS at the 0° and 90° meridians in the right eyes of 77 Chinese patients with high myopia and an anterior chamber depth greater than 2.80 mm.
Background: Postoperative delirium (POD) is a common acute and transient form of brain dysfunction in elderly patients following surgery that can lead to serious adverse clinical outcomes and even death. Although existing studies have preliminarily investigated the effects of opioid-free anaesthesia (OFA) on POD, high-quality evidence on these effects for elderly patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery remains limited. This study aims to investigate the effects of OFA on the development of POD in elderly patients following gastrointestinal surgery.

This study presents a novel SiO/CMC-Fe (SCF) composite mesh fabricated through an environmentally friendly two-step approach: hydrophilic silicon dioxide (SiO) nanoparticle deposition on copper mesh, followed by CMC-Fe hydrogel surface modification. The synergistic interactions among SiO nanoparticles, CMC-Fe hydrogel, and copper substrate through hydrogen bonding and metal chelation create a hierarchical structure, exhibiting superhydrophilicity and underwater superoleophobicity.

This study aims to investigate the effects of renin inhibitor aliskiren on kidney injury in human angiotensinogen-renin (AGT-REN) double transgenic hypertensive (dTH) mice and explore its possible mechanism. The dTH mice were divided into hypertension group (HT group) and aliskiren intervention group (HT+Aliskiren group), while wild-type C57BL/6 mice were served as the control group (WT group). Blood pressure data of mice in HT+Aliskiren group were collected after 28 d of subcutaneous penetration of aliskiren (20 mg/kg), and the damage of renal tissue structure and collagen deposition were observed by HE, Masson and PAS staining.

Introduction: Skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM), a malignant tumor, has PANoptosis implicated in its progression and metastasis. However, the exact mechanisms remain unclear. This study aims to develop a prognostic model for SKCM based on PANoptosis.

These technologies can compensate for the shortcomings of animal models in basic disease research, and can even replace them in some cases. For example, they have demonstrated significant advantages and potential in the evaluation and screening of drugs for diabetes.

Therefore, SMAD5 may be a key regulator of BMSCs osteogenic differentiation, and its more related molecular mechanisms are worth further revealing. Western blot analysis was used to detect the protein levels of SMAD5, ubiquitin-specific peptidase 53 (USP53), eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4A3 (EIF4A3), and osteogenic differentiation-related markers.

However, the development of an ideal hydrogel that possesses excellent mechanical properties, effective self-healing capabilities, tissue adherence and antimicrobial characteristics for wound dressing presents a significant challenge in clinical settings. Inspired by lotus-fiber and mussel, we synthesized a novel multifunctional hydrogel composed of bacterial cellulose-reinforced dopamine-grafted oxidized hyaluronic acid/polyacrylamide (OHA-DA/PAM/BC).

This study aimed to assess the cooling effect of the cooling blanket within the first 24 hours after emergency department admission in patients with heat stroke.
Methods: Retrospective data were collected from six hospitals.

Objective: Although sensory impairment has been identified as a risk factor for cognitive decline, little is known about the underlying mechanisms that connect dual sensory impairment to cognitive ability. This research used a moderated chain-mediated model to investigate the underlying mechanisms behind the association between dual sensory impairment and cognitive ability.
Methods: People aged 60 years and older from seven medical institutions, three communities, and five nursing homes in Zunyi city, Guizhou Province, were selected for the study from October 2022 to September 2023 via convenience sampling.
Aim: To explore the phenotypic spectrum and refine the genotype-phenotype correlation of YWHAG-related epilepsy.
Method: This study used a retrospective cohort design to evaluate the clinical data of 15 patients with epilepsy and YWHAG variants in our Chinese cohort (nine males, six females; median age: 6 years 4 months; range: 1 year 6 months-12 years 8 months) and 40 patients with epilepsy with YWHAG variants from published studies (21 males, 19 females; median age: 10 years; range: 3 years-67 years).
Results: In our cohort, seven variants were de novo and five were new.
Ultrathin organic nanofibers (UTONFs) have favorable potential as emerging nanomaterials due to their large aspect ratio, lightweight nature, and mechanical flexibility. Achieving dual stimuli-responsive UTONFs is necessary to satisfy the on-demand requirements of smart and miniature devices but remains challenging. Herein, amphiphilic alternating peptoids (AAPs) modified with azobenzene and histamine groups were successfully synthesized using the solid-phase submonomer synthesis technique.

The terpolymer consists of acrylamide, acrylic acid, and hydrophobic monomers, and is used as a hydraulic fracturing fluid thickener for freshwater environments. Hydrophobic groups were introduced into terpolymer to improve its tackiness and temperature resistance.

Methods: The serum levels of different inflammatory factors were detected in PSCI patients with or without HBO therapy. The cognitive functions of patients in different groups were assessed before and after treatment.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent and debilitating joint disorder that affects millions of individuals worldwide, severely impairing mobility, independence, and quality of life. Emerging evidence suggests that ferroptosis is a critical factor in OA pathogenesis. However, its precise involvement and underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood.

Introduction: This study investigates the preferences of cataract patients in East China regarding intraocular lenses (IOLs).
Methods: A Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE) was conducted using a questionnaire that included various IOLs attributes. Participants made choices based on different combinations of these attributes, and the data were analyzed using multinomial logit models (MNL) and latent class analysis (LCA) to identify preference heterogeneity.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as essential regulators that play important roles in the development of multiple systems. Recent studies have identified significant roles for miRNAs in the progression of cardiac hypertrophy. This study aims to investigate the effects of miR-133b-3p on angiotensin II (Ang II)-induced cardiac hypertrophy and apoptosis, as well as explore its underlying mechanisms.

Background: Although the information on the validation status of electronic sphygmomanometer (ES) devices in use in health care institutions and households is much more clinically relevant than that of ES models available on the market, it remains insufficient.
Methods: A national survey was conducted across all administrative regions of mainland China to assess the validation status of ESs. Fifty-eight cities were selected with stratification by municipality, provincial capital, and other cities, and health care institutions and households in each city were chosen by convenience to identify ES devices in use according to the study protocol.
