Glacial lakes play a vital role as indicators of global climate change and regional environmental responses. Eukaryotic planktonic microorganisms, pivotal in driving biogeochemical cycling of nutrients within these ecosystems, are crucial for preserving stability and ecological function of glacial lake environments. Nevertheless, the spatial and temporal dynamics, along with the mechanisms responsible for sustaining eukaryotic planktonic microbial communities in glacial lakes, especially during the glacier retreat and lake formation, are still largely uncharted.

Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) attract the research interest of many scientists due to their cost-effectiveness, the abundance of natural sodium resources, and the great potential to replace metal lithium batteries. However, they also encounter substantial issues including sluggish ion kinetics, substantial volume changes, and interfacial instability during cycling. In this study, a GDY/SnO/GDY heterostructured anode is fabricated using a grid encapsulation strategy, where SnO nanoparticles are dispersed within a framework of graphdiyne (GDY) nanowalls.

Among carbon allotropes, carbyne, composed solely of sp-hybridized carbon atoms, has garnered significant interest due to its potential unique physical and chemical properties. Nevertheless, the synthesis of carbyne or its analogs remains a persistent challenge, hindering further exploration in this area. Herein, a straightforward synthesis method is proposed to prepare TMS-capped sp-carbon hybridized carbonaceous material (TMS-C).

Developing high-performance elastomers that simultaneously exhibit high strength, excellent elasticity, broad temperature-range damping, and multifunctionality remains a significant challenge in materials science. In this study, a supramolecular polyurethane elastomer (PUTAZn) is successfully synthesized by constructing a hierarchical hydrogen-bonding network via tartaric acid (TA) chain extension and incorporating dynamic zinc ion coordination crosslinking. The hierarchical hydrogen bonds display an ordered, temperature-dependent dissociation behavior and maintain a dynamic balance between dissociation and reformation, leading to a broad damping peak in the Damping factor (tan δ) profile.

Cadmium (Cd), a non-essential heavy metal, induces severe phytotoxicity through oxidative stress and cellular homeostasis disruption. Chronic Cd exposure inhibits plant growth via leaf chlorosis, stunted stem elongation, and impaired root architecture, while disrupting physiological functions through chlorophyll degradation, membrane peroxidation, and antioxidant system collapse. This review systematically investigates plant adaptive responses to Cd stress.

Fibrosis is characterized by excessive accumulation of scar tissue extending beyond the physiological healing process, ultimately leading to tissue damage and organ dysfunction. In many industrialized countries, fibrosis is a leading cause of mortality, contributing to approximately 45 % of deaths. Despite considerable advances in elucidating its underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms, current therapeutic strategies remain largely limited to palliative care.

Co-combustion of landfilled municipal solid waste (LMSW) in raw municipal solid waste (RMSW) incinerators addressed regional incineration overcapacity and waste scarcity. However, the economic-environmental trade-offs at high co-combustion ratios remained unclear. This study integrated life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle costing (LCC) to quantify the impacts of LMSW co-combustion at varying ratios: 0 %, 15 %, 25 %, 35 %, and 45 %.

Outbreaks of the sea star in northern China Sea, supported by its robust chemical and physical defenses, have disrupted marine ecological balance and caused substantial economic losses to aquaculture. To investigate the compounds responsible for its chemical defense, three asterosaponins (SP1-SP3) and their shared aglycone (AG) were isolated and identified. The embryotoxicity of these compounds was evaluated using marine medaka embryos (Oryzias melastigma), with 96 h-LC values determined as 76.

Elastomers play important roles in major equipment, mega facilities, and other advanced applications. However, in practical applications, it is often subjected to extreme environmental conditions, such as repeated cyclic mechanical loading, high temperatures, external impacts, etc. Designing an elastomer with high strength/toughness and resistant to fatigue is particularly challenging.

Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are classified as persistent organic pollutants (POPs), and studies suggest that exposure to POPs may contribute to the development of metabolic diseases. However, the specific link between single and mixed BFRs and hyperlipidemia remains unclear, as does the potential mediating role of oxidative stress in this relationship. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning from 2005 to 2016, encompassing 6800 participants, to investigate the association between BFRs and hyperlipidemia.

Depression, a prevalent chronic psychological disorder in aging populations, is increasingly recognized for its deleterious impact on bone regeneration; yet its pathological mechanisms and targeted therapies remain underexplored. Here, a rationally engineered tetranuclear manganese nanocluster (Mn), supported by a heptadentate chelating ligand (TPDP), as a multifunctional nanozyme platform to combat depression-induced skeletal dysfunction, is introduced. Utilizing a murine chronic restraint stress model combined with tibial drill-hole injury, it is demonstrated that depression impairs bone healing through a complex interplay of cellular senescence, inflammatory dysregulation, compromised lymphatic vessel proliferation, and disruption of the muscle-bone metabolic axis.
