Precise focusing is a challenge for live-cell super-resolution structured illumination microscopy (SR-SIM), especially in the case of low signal-to-noise ratio of raw images. Here, we propose an integrated autofocus algorithm (IT-SICC) that combines frequency domain cross-correlation with an Improved Tenengrad algorithm to achieve high-precision autofocus. Due to leveraging the prior characteristics of the SIM imaging fringe pattern, the IT-SICC outperforms existing image-based autofocus methods in terms of focusing accuracy, noise robustness, and independence from morphological features.

This study explores the clinical effects of Baduanjin rehabilitation training on limb motor function, daily living ability, and quality of life in elderly patients with hemiplegia after stroke. Clinical data of 185 elderly patients with hemiplegia after stroke in our hospital from January 2020 to December 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. According to intervention strategy, patients were divided into observation group (n = 75, Baduanjin rehabilitation training in addition to the conventional training therapy) and control group (n = 110, conventional rehabilitation training therapy).

Helical CNTs wrapped around NiPO nanoparticle-incorporated carbon nanoribbons were prepared by nickel-catalysis and phosphatization. The obtained highly conductive nanocomposite with an active Ni-O-P structure and appropriate Gibbs free energy for adsorbing protons was applied as an advanced electrocatalyst for the HER and delivered comparable electrocatalytic performance to commercial Pt/C in acidic solution.

Background: Laparoscopic hepatic cyst deroofing (LHCD) stands as the preferred treatment modality for simple hepatic cysts (SHCs), but it has limitations. This study aimed to introduce endoscopic transgastric hepatic cyst deroofing (ETGHCD) as a minimally invasive alternative and to compare its safety and efficacy with LHCD in treating SHCs.

Methods: We retrospectively enrolled 10 patients with 15 symptomatic SHCs treated by ETGHCD and 53 patients with 72 SHCs treated by LHCD at Shanghai General Hospital from June 2021 to August 2024.

Background: Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a heart disease caused by the metabolic disorders of glucose and lipids associated with diabetes, leading to heart failure and death in diabetic patients. Dapagliflozin (DAPA) serves as a treatment for managing blood glucose levels in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). However, the specific mechanisms by which DAPA treats DCM are not yet fully understood.

Super-resolution structured illumination microscopy (SR-SIM) performs spectral expansion of high-frequency information encoded in stripe patterns. However, using a limited number of pattern orientations (typically three) results in a petal-like frequency spectrum, leading to structural and intensity fidelity degradation in reconstructed images. In this Letter, we propose an integrated spatial-frequency domain SIM reconstruction method that enables isotropic spectrum expansion, called ISO-SIM.

By a carbon nanotube (CNT) spatially confined metal-catalyzed structural reconstruction, carbon nanofibers (CNFs) with a hollow, hollow-solid, solid graphite core, and CNT shell are prepared using nitrogen heterocycle (NHC) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) as carbon sources. The formation mechanism of CNFs with oriented graphene layers and enlarged intergraphene spacing is studied by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and selected area electron diffraction analysis. It revealed that this one-dimensional nanoconfined metal-catalyzed carbon rearrangement is totally different from the reported spatially localized metal-catalyzed graphitization of electrospun polymer and nanocasted carbohydrate nanofibers, as the graphene orientation, cavity volume, and interlayer distance of CNFs can be controlled by the carbon concentration-related competitive metal-catalyzed tip growth of latitudinal and longitudinal graphene layers from NHC and PAH.

Liver metastasis (LM) poses a significant challenge in cancer treatment, with limited available therapeutic options and poor prognosis. Understanding the dynamics of tumor microenvironment (TME) and immune interactions is crucial for developing effective treatments. We find that WNT11 promoted CD8 T-cell exclusion and suppression, which was correlated with poor prognosis in LM.

Disruption of hypothalamic melanocortin 4 receptors (MC4Rs) causes obesity in mice and humans. Here, we investigated the transcriptional regulation of in the hypothalamus. In mice, we show that the homeodomain transcription factor Orthopedia (OTP) is enriched in MC4R neurons in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) of the hypothalamus and directly regulates transcription.

SMAD3, a protein-coding gene, assumes a pivotal role within the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) signaling pathway. Notably, aberrant SMAD3 expression has been linked to various malignancies. Nevertheless, an extensive examination of the comprehensive pan-cancer impact on SMAD3's diagnostic, prognostic, and immunological predictive utility has yet to be undertaken.

Aims: Previous studies on the association between vitamin E and blood pressure (BP) levels are controversial. Our study aimed to evaluate the association between blood vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol and gamma-tocopherol) levels and systolic and diastolic BP in an adult population with diabetes and without diabetes.

Methods: Our study data were obtained from a biomarker project of the Midlife in the United States (MIDUS) study.

The drifting speed and trajectory of fish aggregation devices (FADs) influence tuna aggregation behavior. Based on expertise, fishermen modify FAD structures to slow down drifting speed, but few studies quantify material and structure effects on this speed. To address this, 14 different types of FAD models were tested under 5 different current velocities in a flume tank and compared drifting using pairwise Wilcoxon tests.

Iron nitrides with the merits of high theoretical capacities, cost-effectiveness, and good electronic/ionic conductivity have been recognized as attractive anode candidates for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Carbon compositing, pore engineering, and nanostructure construction have proved to be effective strategies to prepare high-performance metal nitride anodes for LIBs. Herein, we synthesized a series of FeN-embedded and N-doped carbon nanorods (FeN@NCNR) with a hierarchical porous system and controllable topography by metal-catalyzed graphitization-nitridization of the Fe(III)-triazole framework (Fe-MOF) and thermal evaporation of the triblock copolymer F127 template assembled in Fe-MOF via hydrogen bonding interaction, followed by the air oxidation and urea-assisted ammonolysis processes.

The pathogenesis of intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) involves complex signaling networks and various effector molecules, and our understanding of the pathogenesis of IVDD is limited. Hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) is closely related to IVDD, and there is excessive oxidative stress concurrent with IVDD. In this study, we found that HIF-1α could protect nucleus pulposus cells from excessive oxidative stress by reversing the imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants and thus mitigating the oxidative stress-induced mitochondrial impairment.

Objective: Since diabetic patients with coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD) exhibit high cardiac mortality and women have higher prevalence of non-obstructive coronary artery disease than men, we tried to expand the limited understanding about the etiology and the sex difference of diabetic CMD.

Approach And Results: Accumulated methylglyoxal (MGO) due to diabetes promotes vascular damage and it was used for mimicking diabetic status. Flow cytometry analysis and isometric tension measurement were performed to evaluate coronary artery endothelial injury.

Symptomatic simple hepatic cysts require treatment, with several guidelines recommending laparoscopic deroofing. However, cysts located in the posterosuperior segments are considered poor candidates for this procedure. Gastrointestinal endoscopes are more flexible and able to reach less accessible areas than laparoscopes.
