Background: Liver cancer stem cells (LCSCs) are critical drivers of metastasis and chemoresistance in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Proline-rich tyrosine kinase 2 (Pyk2) has been implicated in tumor progression, but its role in LCSC stemness and HCC malignancy remains unclear. This study explores the effects of Pyk2 and its regulation by miR-23b-3p on LCSC function and HCC progression.

Objectives: This study examined the association between metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and the risk of sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) in elderly individuals.
Methods: A population-based cohort study using the Korean National Health Insurance Service-Senior cohort included 189,623 individuals aged 65 and older, categorized as non-SLD or MASLD. Cox proportional hazards regression and Fine-Gray subdistribution hazard models were used to evaluate the risk of SSNHL and Ménière's disease, considering all-cause mortality as a competing event.
Background And Aims: We investigated the association between subtypes of steatotic liver disease (SLD) and 23 site-specific cancers in a nationwide cohort of young Korean adults.
Methods: From a nationwide health screening database in Korea, 2,877,245 young adults 20-39 years of age between 2013 and 2014 were included and followed up until December 31, 2022. Individuals were categorized into non-SLD, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), MASLD with increased alcohol intake (MetALD), and alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) groups.
Background: The relationship between the newly proposed steatotic liver disease (SLD) subtypes-metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and metabolic alcohol-associated liver disease (MetALD)-and dementia is understudied. We evaluated the dementia risk associated with these subtypes.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 296,001 participants aged over 60 who underwent health examinations between 2009 and 2010.
Background & Aims: Lymph node metastasis (LNM) is a major determinant of recurrence and prognosis in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA). LNM disrupts T cell-mediated cytotoxicity, promotes tumor-specific immune tolerance, and facilitates distant metastasis. Despite its importance, extensive research on LMN in iCCA is lacking.

Deuremidevir hydrobromide tablets (VV116) is an orally small molecule agents target SARS-CoV-2 RdRp and inhibits viral replication. It may have a low likelihood of drug-drug interactions and has a potential to provide new treatment option.

Methods: The material's physicochemical properties, biocompatibility with osteoblasts, and cytotoxicity toward osteosarcoma cells were rigorously analyzed.
Results: The findings demonstrate that CPSC-Cur signicantly prolongs the setting time, which can be optimized by adding silanized cellulose nanober (CNF-SH) to achieve a balance between workability and mechanical strength.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of cancer-associated death globally. Liver transplantation (LT) has emerged as a key treatment for patients with HCC, and the Milan criteria have been adopted as the cornerstone of the selection policy. To allow more patients to benefit from LT, a number of expanded criteria have been proposed, many of which use radiologic morphological characteristics with larger and more tumors as surrogates to predict outcomes.

The Khorana score is recommended by clinical guidelines for identifying ambulatory cancer patients at high risk of venous thromboembolism during chemotherapy. However, its predictive performance is debated among cancer patients.

However, the prognostic value of performing lymph node dissection (LND) in patients with clinical node-negative ICC remains controversial. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical value of LND on long-term outcomes in this subgroup of patients.

Background: Liver transplantation (LT) is one of the main curative treatments for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Milan criteria has long been applied to candidate LT patients with HCC. However, the application of Milan criteria failed to precisely predict patients at risk of recurrence.

Methods: Information on study participants was derived from the Korea National Health Insurance Service database. The study population consisted of 5,080,410 participants who underwent two consecutive biennial health screenings between 2009 and 2012.
The development of nanomaterials with multi-enzyme-like activity is crucial for addressing challenges in multi-enzyme-based biosensing systems, including cross-talk between different enzymes and the complexities and costs associated with detection. In this study, Pt nanoparticles (Pt NPs) were successfully supported on a Zr-based metal-organic framework (MOF-808) to create a composite catalyst named MOF-808/Pt NPs. This composite catalyst effectively mimics the functions of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and peroxidase (POD).

In this work, we have synthesized two examples of visible light responsive crystalline polyoxometalate@metal-organic framework materials and by introducing Ru metalloligands and {CdMO} bimetallic units (M = Ni or Co). This is the first report of metalloligand-modified polyoxometalate@metal-organic framework materials with bimetallic nodes, and the materials form a three-dimensional framework directly through coordination bonds between {CdMO} bimetallic units and metalloligands.

Eukaryotic cells engage in autophagy, an internal process of self-degradation through lysosomes. Autophagy can be classified as selective or non-selective depending on the way it chooses to degrade substrates. During the process of selective autophagy, damaged and/or redundant organelles like mitochondria, peroxisomes, ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum (ER), lysosomes, nuclei, proteasomes, and lipid droplets are selectively recycled.

Background: The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the delivery of health care is a promising area, and guidelines, consensus statements, and standards on AI regarding various topics have been developed.
Objective: We performed this study to assess the quality of guidelines, consensus statements, and standards in the field of AI for medicine and to provide a foundation for recommendations about the future development of AI guidelines.
Methods: We searched 7 electronic databases from database establishment to April 6, 2022, and screened articles involving AI guidelines, consensus statements, and standards for eligibility.
The development of visible-light-responsive, environmentally friendly, and reusable photocatalysts for organic oxidation reactions is of vital significance. Herein, four polyoxometalate-based metal-organic frameworks (POMOFs) were synthesized and systematically characterized by assembling the paddlewheel complex Rh(OAc) and various polyoxometalates (POMs). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the four POMOFs were isomorphic and possessed rare structural features among the POMOFs, with POMs as nodes and Rh(OAc) as linkers.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS)-involved tumor therapeutic strategy, chemodynamic therapy (CDT), has attracted extensive research interest in the scientific community. However, the therapeutic effect of CDT is insufficient and unsustainable owing to the limited endogenous H O level in the tumor microenvironment. Here, peroxidase (POD)-like RuTe nanozyme with the immobilization of glucose oxidase (GOx) and allochroic 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) molecule have been synthesized to construct RuTe -GOx-TMB nanoreactors (RGT NRs) as cascade reaction systems for tumor-specific and self-replenishing cancer therapy.
