To achieve non-invasive early diagnosis and severity monitoring of periodontal disease, this study employed silver nanoparticles as a surface-enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) substrate for the detection and analysis of salivary SERS spectra from a control group (periodontal health group) and groups with periodontal disease of varying severities (including gingivitis, as well as mild, moderate, and severe periodontitis). The results demonstrated significant differences in salivary SERS spectra between the control group and the gingivitis group, between the control group and the mild periodontitis group, and between the control group and groups with periodontal disease of different severities. Matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) is known to modulate cardiac remodeling after myocardial infarction, but its role in cardiomyocyte proliferation remains unclear. Here, we showed that MMP9 deficiency enhanced neonatal cardiomyocyte proliferation and mononucleation following apical resection. Integrated transcriptomic and proteomic analyses revealed that MMP9 knockout induces a metabolic shift from oxidative phosphorylation to glycolysis in injured neonatal hearts, coinciding with upregulation of acyl-CoA thioesterase 1 (ACOT1).

Following myocardial infarction (MI), endothelial cell proliferation drives neovascularization to support cardiac regeneration. While myeloid-derived growth factor (Mydgf) is known to promote cardiac repair post-injury, yet its mechanism in angiogenesis remained unclear. In this study, we found that myeloid-derived growth factor knockout (Mydgf-KO) reduced endothelial cell proliferation during early postnatal cardiac angiogenesis and impaired neovascularization post-MI, leading to exacerbated cardiac dysfunction.

Effective immobilization and catalytic conversion of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) are crucial for enhancing lithium-sulfur (Li-S) battery performance. To this end, a hybrid CoSe-CoO-Se@CNTs electrocatalyst was rationally designed, wherein CoO and CoSe synergistically promote LiPS adsorption and catalytic transformation, while CNTs provide a conductive framework to enhance sulfur utilization. Notably, the often-overlooked role of selenium was elucidated via in situ X-ray diffraction pattern revealing its active participation in charge-discharge reactions, which contributes to the stable cycling performance of Li-S batteries.

A novel graphene-coated nanocrystalline ceramic particle, iron-based composite inoculant was developed in this study to optimize the as-cast microstructure and mechanical properties of W18Cr4V high-speed steel (HSS). The effects of the composite inoculant on the microstructure, crystal structure, and mechanical properties of HSS were analyzed using transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The (002-) and (020) crystal planes of the FeC and CrC phases, respectively, were collinear at two points in the reciprocal space, indicating a coherent relationship between the FeC and CrC phases in the tempered modified HSS.
