Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a complex metabolic disease characterized by significantly elevated blood glucose levels as a result of dysfunctional or impaired pancreatic β-cells, leading to insulin deficiency. This condition can result in severe complications, including cardiovascular diseases, kidney failure, vision impairment, and nerve damage. Currently available anti-diabetic drugs do not fully prevent the progression of these complications.

In the present study, a poly(lipoic acid) (PolyLA) coenzyme-based tissue adhesive (PolyLA/Arg/Ga) was developed for the treatment of periodontitis. It functions by combining the non-antibiotic antimicrobial gallium ion (Ga) with PolyLA/Arg to resist pathogenic bacteria and promote osteogenesis.

Numerous organic chemicals are present in aquatic environments, yet systematically identifying and prioritizing these compounds remains a major challenge, particularly in tropical island watersheds where data are scarce. In this study, we applied high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS)-based non-target screening to comprehensively characterize emerging organic pollutants in three major rivers of Hainan Province-Changhua, Wanquan, and Nandu. A total of 177 high-confidence compounds were identified, spanning pharmaceuticals, industrial additives, pesticides, and natural products.

Rice blast disease, caused by Magnaporthe oryzae, significantly threatens global rice yields. The Pmk1-MAPK signaling pathway is crucial for the infection process, but the precise regulatory mechanisms of Pmk1 remain unclear. Our research reveals that sumoylation of Pmk1 is vital for its infectious function.

The purpose of this study was to clarify the underlying mechanisms of Pls against atherosclerosis (AS) in ApoE mice induced by a high-fat diet (HFD), through a comprehensive analysis of hepatic metabolomics and aortic transcriptomics data. The results demonstrated a significant reduction in pathological indicators associated with AS following Pls treatment.

Jiao Tai Wan (JTW) is a classic formula composed of two traditional Chinese medicines, coptis chinensis (CC) and cinnamon (CIN), the ratio of CC and CIN is 10:1. JTW has the effects of promoting cognitive function, and improving learning and memory function.

Manganese dioxide (MnO)-based heterogeneous catalysts have gained significant attention in nanozyme research due to their exceptional oxidase-mimicking capabilities. This work reports the rational design of MnO functionalized magnetic carbon nanotubes (FeO@C@MnO) through a multistep synthesis strategy. The magnetic N-doped hollow carbon substrate (FeO@C) was first synthesized via controlled pyrolysis of FeOOH-coated polydopamine precursors.

Matrix Gla protein (MGP) balances bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) and transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) signaling but has an unclear role in WAT.
Methods: To study the role of MGP in WAT, we used mice with global or platelet-derived growth factor receptor α (Pdgfra)-Cre-mediated Mgp deletion in adipose progenitor cells (APCs) together with single cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), characterization on adipose and fibrotic phenotypes, and BMP and TGFβ signaling studies.
Background & Aims: A newly developed low-attenuation muscle index (LAMI) reflects the relationship of the degree of adipose tissue infiltration in low-attenuation muscle and the skeletal muscle quality on computed tomography (CT) images. We investigated the relationship between CT-derived LAMI and ratio of low-attenuation muscle area to skeletal muscle area (LAMA/SMA) at transverse process of the first lumbar vertebra (L1) and all-cause death in dialysis patients.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study of initial-dialysis patients enrolled from January 1, 2014, to June 30, 2020.
Multicompartment synthetic protocells offer significant advantages over traditional single-compartment systems by replicating the compartmentalized organization of natural cells. This advanced design enables effective synergy and precise control over complex biochemical reactions through modular and hierarchical structures. The construction strategies primarily encompass self-assembly methods, microfluidic technology, and double emulsion techniques, which facilitate precise and reproducible formation of interconnected compartments separated by physical or chemical barriers.

Fully carboxylated osteocalcin (cOCN) exhibits a high affinity for hydroxyapatite within the bone matrix, yet under specific physiological conditions, it may undergo decarboxylation, thereby acquiring endocrine regulatory capabilities. Recent findings suggest a potential protective role for undercarboxylated osteocalcin (ucOCN) beyond bone, influencing various systems, including the brain, pancreas, muscle, and gonads, where its effects are well established.
