Dopant size is known to influence oxygen vacancy-mediated conduction pathways and ionic conductivity in doped ceria, yet the underlying atomic-scale mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we combine neutron total scattering and large-scale atomistic simulations to analyze the local defect structures of two representative doped ceria systems: CeGdO (GDC) and CeNdO (NDC). The local structure of GDC, a commercially used ion conductor, is investigated for the first time using neutron total scattering on Gd-enriched samples.

Oral tofacitinib for generalized Dowling-Degos disease with refractory pruritus: a case report.

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor tofacitinib in generalized Dowling-Degos disease (DDD) with refractory pruritus and to comparatively analyze its advantages and limitations versus existing therapies.

Methods: We report a 61-year-old male with a 20-year history of generalized DDD presenting with pruritic erythematous-to-brown papules and macules refractory to conventional therapies. Multimodal diagnostic evaluations, including dermoscopy and histopathology confirmed the diagnosis, with pruritus severity quantified using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS).

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively recruited 133 newly diagnosed nasal-type ENKTL patients who underwent interim [F]FDG PET/CT scans after 2-4 cycles of immunotherapy-based treatments. Interim PET/CT was interpreted by maximum standardized uptake value (SUV), Deauville 5-point scale (DS), and early treatment response.

This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of fire needle plus cupping (FC) combined with oral famciclovir and gabapentin for the treatment of acute-phase herpes zoster (AHZ). This study was conducted as a superiority, randomized controlled trial in which 84 patients with AHZ who met the diagnostic criteria were selected and randomly assigned to three groups on a 1:1 basis. Group A: received oral famciclovir with gabapentin treatment (FG); Group B: received fire needle plus cupping (FC) with FG.

Purpose: This study aims to develop a deep learning-based computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system for the automatic detection and classification of lateral cervical lymph nodes (LNs) on original ultrasound images of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) patients.

Methods: A retrospective data set of 1801 cervical LN ultrasound images from 1675 patients with PTC and a prospective test set including 185 images from 160 patients were collected. Four different deep leaning models were trained and validated in the retrospective data set.

Nomogram for predicting pathological response to neoadjuvant treatment in patients with locally advanced gastric cancer: Data from a phase III clinical trial.

Purpose: This study aimed to establish a nomogram using routinely available clinicopathological parameters to predict the pathological response in patients with locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC) undergoing neoadjuvant treatment.

Materials And Methods: We conducted this study based on the ongoing Neo-CRAG trial, a prospective study focused on preoperative treatment in patients with LAGC. A total of 221 patients who underwent surgery following neoadjuvant chemotherapy (nCT) or neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center between June 2013 and July 2022 were included in the analysis.

A cross-sectional study: caregiver burden and related determinants of adult patients with β-thalassemia major in mainland China.

Background: The informal caregivers of adult patients with β-thalassemia major (β-TM) bear not only physical but also emotional and economic pressures of providing care. This study is the first to evaluate the caregiver burden by Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI) of adult patients with β-TM in mainland China and to identify predictors of caregiver burden.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we conducted an online survey with snowball sampling covering seven provinces between September 1, 2021, and January 31, 2022, of patients aged ≥ 18 years with β-TM and their informal caregivers.

Background: β-thalassaemia major poses a substantial economic burden, especially in adults. We aimed to estimate the economic burden of adult patients with β-thalassaemia major from a societal perspective using the real-world data. According to the clinical guideline, we also estimated the annual medical costs for patients with the same body weight and calculated the lifetime medical costs over 50 years in mainland China.

Air pollution is a global issue that often transcends national borders, leading to disputes over environmental concerns and climate-mitigation responsibilities. Between March and July 2020, we collected aerosol samples in Jimunai, a town in western China neighboring Kazakhstan, to assess transboundary air pollution in the region. Our analysis focused on major water-soluble inorganic ions (WSIs), with Ca and SO accounting for almost 60% of the total ion loading.

Background: To explore the hematological toxicity (HT) induced by neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) compared with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (nCT) and to identify the appropriate vertebral body (VB) dosimetric parameters for predicting HT in patients with locally advanced gastric cancer (GC).

Methods: In the phase III study, 302 patients with GC from an ongoing multi-center randomized clinical trial (NCT01815853) were included. Patients from two major centers were grouped into training and external validation cohorts.

Pathogen detection in suspected spinal infection: metagenomic next-generation sequencing versus culture.

Purpose: The aim is to compare the pathogen detection performance of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) and the culturing of percutaneous needle biopsy samples obtained from an individual with a suspected spinal infection.

Methods: A retrospective study of 141 individuals with a suspected spinal infection was conducted, and mNGS was performed. The microbial spectra and detection performance between mNGS and the culturing-based method were compared, and the effects of antibiotic intervention and biopsy on the detection performance were assessed.

Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy induced lymphopenia in gastric cancer and associations with spleen dosimetry and survival outcomes.

Background: Few studies concentrate on spleen dosimetry of radiotherapy for gastric cancer (GC). Although there is no consensus on the spleen dose-volume threshold for lymphopenia, several studies indicated that the higher the spleen dose, the higher the risk of lymphopenia. This study aimed to identify the appropriate spleen dosimetric parameters for predicting grade 4 + lymphopenia in patients with locally advanced GC.

Combination of Merocel sponge with Lipopolysaccharide to establish rat rhinosinusitis model.

Objective: The study aimed to investigate the feasibility of establishing rhinosinusitis model in rats combinated with Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and merocel sponge.

Methods: SD (Sprague Dawley) rats that underwent nasal obstruction using Merocel sponge packing, rats with LPS instillation alone, and rats with both nasal obstruction and LPS instillation were used to establish rat models of rhinosinusitis. After the models were established, the nasal symptoms of rats were recorded, the histopathological examination and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TME) of the sinus tissue were performed and the levels of Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α), Interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the blood were also analyzed.
