Concrete structures are prone to cracking and seepage issues due to material degradation during long-term service. Ionic chelating agents (ICAs) can significantly enhance the durability and extend the service life of concrete structures by chelating metal ions in the cement matrix and promoting the formation of crystalline products within pores. The study selected commonly used ICAs, including sodium gluconate, sodium maleate, and sodium citrate, as well as a self-made high-efficiency ICA, to compare their chelating abilities for metal ions (such as Al, Mg, Fe, and Ca).

Lignosulfonate (LS) is used to improve asphaltic aging resistance owing to absorbing ultraviolet (UV) light and trapping free radicals. However, excessive addition of LS disrupts uniform dispersion in the asphaltic matrix due to polarity mismatch, causing aggregation, phase separation, and matrix hardening, which collectively reduces anti-aging effectiveness. Herein, we demonstrate a strategy of diisocyanate to enhance LS on asphaltic compatibility with asphalt by synergistically reducing hydrophilic groups and surface free energy.

Introduction: In recent years, researchers have been exploring the plastic-degrading abilities of bacteria residing in the guts of Styrofoam-eating larvae. However, none of the reported strains have displayed highly efficient plastic degradation capabilities, and it's noteworthy that none of the existing studies have focused on strictly anaerobic microbes.

Methods: In this study, we exclusively fed Styrofoam to larvae and examined how this dietary change influence the gut's bacterial community composition, as observed through fecal bacteria using bacterial 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing and the small-scale culturomics method with 20 types of anaerobic media under four different conditions.

Asphalt fumes released during pavement construction posed a threat to human health and environment. In this study, 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphorophenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) was used as a reactive fumes suppressant to reduce the asphalt fumes emission. The volatilization behavior of DOPO modified asphalt (DOPO-Asphalt) was investigated through thermogravimetric analysis, volatility test and thermal destruction gas chromatography mass spectrometry, and effect of DOPO on the chemical structure and composition of asphalt was explored through nuclear magnetic resonance hydrogen spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and asphalt component testing.

Considering the high environmental risk, the remediation of antibiotic pollutants attracted numerous attentions. In this work, a novel photocatalyst, CeZrO/SnInS, was fabricated by in situ precipitation and hydrothermal method and then applied to the degradation of norfloxacin under the irritation of visible light. The SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, and electrochemical results clearly showed that the n-type heterojunction between CeZrO and SnInS was successfully constructed, which greatly reduces the recombination of the photogenic electron and holes, leading to the improvement of photocatalytic performance and stability (recycled over eight times).
