With the increase of heavy traffic transportation, it is meaningful to study the performance change of pavements under heavy loads. To study the development of asphalt mixture under heavy load, an AC-13 asphalt mixture was prepared and a large-sized specimen wheel tracking test was conducted. Samples from different periods were extracted to research the influence of the cumulative load times under heavy load on asphalt mixtures. It was found that there were different variation rules on the performance of the asphalt mixture under different load conditions. The failure time on skid resistance was predicted by the fitting curve. Heavy load conditions would greatly speed up the failure of skid resistance. According to the sieving results, the stable gradation of 10-16 mm, 5-10 mm, 3-5 mm, and 0-3 mm after heavy load grinding was 10%, 37%, 23%, and 30%. It was found that the content of 10-16 mm had a significant correlation with the permanent deformation of the asphalt mixture, while there were no significant correlation between aggregate and skid resistance.

This research provides useful insights into sustainable and cost-effective pavement rehabilitation by evaluating the combined effects of both Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) and Crumb Rubber (CR) modification on flexible pavement performance using actual motorway sections. Pavement rehabilitation and maintenance can enhance the design and serviceable life of the pavement. Additionally, modification of asphalt with Crumb Rubber (CR) and Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) not only proves to be economical but can also increase the resistance of flexible pavement concerning rutting, fatigue, and moisture damage.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) derivatives, specifically azaarenes and nitrated and oxygenated PAHs, are emerging contaminants of concern due to their increased toxicity and persistence compared to the parent PAHs. Despite their toxicity, their simultaneous analysis in complex matrices, such as in fumes emitted from bituminous mixtures, remains challenging due to limitations of conventional analytical techniques. To address this, an advanced methodology was developed using Ultra-High-Performance Liquid Chromatography coupled with High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS Orbitrap Eclipse) equipped with an APCI source for the simultaneous identification and quantification of 14 PAH derivatives.

Filler dramatically affects the rheology of cold-patched asphalt (CPA) slurry, as well as the related mechanical properties; its physical and chemical properties will also affect the road performance of cold-patch asphalt mixture (CPAM). In order to optimize the filler composition ratio for CPAM, this study uses an orthogonal test to determine the optimal ratio of bentonite to cement, partially substituting mineral powder. Additionally, a performance verification test suitable for CPAM is designed and performed.

Three-dimensional reconstruction programs are essential tools for understanding the behavior of asphalt mixtures. On the basis of accurate 3D models, it is convenient to identify the complex relationship between spatial structures and physical properties. In this work, we explore a low-cost and data-efficient way to create a collection of 3D asphalt mixture models.

To prolong the service life of asphalt pavement and reduce its maintenance cost, a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor encapsulated in carboxylated carbon nanotube (CNT-COOH)-modified gel material suitable for strain monitoring of asphalt pavement was developed. Through tensile and bending tests, the effects of carboxylated carbon nanotubes on the mechanical properties of gel materials under different dosages were evaluated and the optimal dosage of carbon nanotubes was determined. Infrared spectrometer and scanning electron microscopy were used to compare and analyze the infrared spectra and microstructure of carbon nanotubes before and after carboxyl functionalization and modified gel materials.
