In this study, we attempt to establish a genotype‒phenotype correlation in Olmsted syndrome, which has been unclear owing to the rarity and heterogeneity of the condition. We identified five previously unreported TRPV3 variations (R416Q, R416W, L655P, W692S, and L694P) and three recurrent variations (G568D, G568V, and L673F) in nine unrelated patients.

By annealing a thin Au layer, we fabricate large-area Au nanoislands on top of the Co/Pt magnetic thin films, which show plasmonic resonances around the wavelength of 606 nm. Using a customized magneto-optical Kerr effect setup, we experimentally observe an 18.

However, this approach faces challenges when applied to complex biological samples due to heavy nonspecific desorption of nontarget molecules from GO. To overcome this problem, we introduced a capture DNA (cDNA) fragment with a poly adenine (poly-A) extension into the physisorption system that greatly reduces nonspecific desorption and false positive signal due to strong binding between poly-A and GO.

The excess noise due to stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in gain and loss-based Brillouin optical time-domain analyzers (BOTDA) has been investigated theoretically and experimentally for the first time to the best of our knowledge. This investigation provides a full insight to the SBS-induced noise distribution, which mainly comes from phase-to-intensity conversion noise and the beating noise between the probe wave and spontaneous Brillouin scattering. A complete theoretical model, which is in good agreement with the experimental results, is presented to describe the noise.

Background: The characteristics of the haemophilia may endanger the patient with haemophilia (PWH) to higher ratio of wound complication, even lead to the refractory wound problem. The early wound complication in PWH has not been well studied in literature.
Methods: Between the period from 2002 to 2018, 250 patients underwent 323 elective orthopaedic surgical procedures for the treatment of haemophilic musculoskeletal disorders.
Purpose: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak has become a global public health concern; however, relatively few detailed reports of related cardiac injury are available. The aims of this study were to compare the clinical and echocardiographic characteristics of inpatients in the intensive-care unit (ICU) and non-ICU patients.
Methods: We recruited 416 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 and divided them into two groups: ICU (n = 35) and non-ICU (n = 381).
In this study, four different ZVI/M-PMS systems (, ZVI/Cu, ZVI/Co, ZVI/Ni and ZVI/Ag) were fabricated to investigate the removal of contaminants (Rhodamine B (RB), 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP), bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol F (BPF), levofloxacin (LFX), and chloramphenicol (CAP)). The results indicated that ZVI/Cu and ZVI/Ag exhibited a superior performance to activate PMS compared with the ZVI. The mechanism of the investigation showed that a relatively positive correlation between the release of iron ions (Fe) and contaminant removal efficiency was found in different ZVI/M-PMS systems.

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) is a malignant proliferation of cutaneous epithelium that has been observed to have an alarming rise in incidence. Numerous studies have demonstrated microRNAs (miRNAs or miRs) as important biomarkers in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of CSCC. This study aims to investigate the effects of miR-203 on the behaviors of CSCC cells and possible mechanisms associated with protein regulator of cytokinesis-1 (PRC1) and Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.

A key issue for redox reactions in plasmon-induced photocatalysis, particularly for water oxidation, is the concentration of surface-accumulating charges (electrons or holes) at a reaction site for artificial photosynthesis. However, where plasmonic charge accumulated at a catalyst's surface, and how to improve local charge density at active sites, remains unknown because it is difficult to identify the exact spatial location and local density of the plasmon-induced charge, particularly with regard to holes. Herein, we show that at the single particle level, plasmon-coupling-induced holes can be greatly accumulated at the plasmonic Au nanoparticle dimer/TiO interface in the nanogap region, as directly evidenced by the locally enhanced surface photovoltage.

Background: The radial artery pulse wave is a widely used physiological signal for disease diagnosis and personal health monitoring because it provides insight into the overall health of the heart and blood vessels. Periodic radial artery pulse signals are subsequently decomposed into single pulse wave periods (segments) for physiological parameter evaluations. However, abnormal periods frequently arise due to external interference, the inherent imperfections of current segmentation methods, and the quality of the pulse wave signals.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) significantly increases the risk of development of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Recently, our laboratory generated a mouse model with the typical phenotypes of AKI to CKD transition in the unilateral kidney. However, AKI, CKD, and even the transition from AKI to CKD usually occur bilaterally rather than unilaterally in patients.

Due to the disconnection of surviving neural elements after spinal cord injury (SCI), such patients had to suffer irreversible loss of motor or sensory function, and thereafter enormous economic and emotional burdens were brought to society and family. Despite many strategies being dealing with SCI, there is still no effective regenerative therapy. To date, significant progress has been made in studies of SCI repair strategies, including gene regulation of neural regeneration, cell or cell-derived exosomes and growth factors transplantation, repair of biomaterials, and neural signal stimulation.

NNS is characterized by pernio-like skin rashes, intermittent fever, and long clubbed fingers and toes with joint contractures, partially with progressive lipomuscular atrophy, emaciation, hepatosplenomegaly and basal ganglion calcification.
Case Presentation: We presented a sporadic case of NNS with compound heterozygous mutations in the PSMB8 gene.
Skeletal remains encountered frequently in forensic applications are a challenging specimen, since their DNA is usually degraded due to harsh conditions, limiting the utilization of skeletal DNA. Forensic scientists have tried various methods to extract DNA from skeletal remains of low quantity and poor quality or improve detecting technology for more information from compromised DNA. Compared with traditional capillary electrophoresis (CE), massively parallel sequencing (MPS) is more sensitive to shorter fragments, able to detect allele sequences for variations from core motif or flanking regions, and able to detect more markers with a higher discrimination power.
