Duck hepatitis A virus type 3 (DHAV-3), which is families of the Picornaviridae, poses severe threats to waterfowl industries due to rapid antigenic evolution and limitations in conventional diagnostics. Herein, we engineered a CRISPR-Cas13a-mediated RNA detection system by leveraging the intrinsic HEPN domain-dependent collateral cleavage activity of Cas13a, synergistically integrated with recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) to target DHAV-3 RNA. This biological macromolecule-driven platform achieved ultrasensitive detection (1 copies/μL) within 35 min through sequence-specific crRNA guidance and Cas13a-triggered fluorescent/lateral flow signal amplification.

The randomized phase 3 CHART trial (NCT03520478) revealed that rezvilutamide (REZ) plus androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) in high-volume, metastatic, hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC) significantly enhanced radiographic progression-free and overall survival than bicalutamide (BIC)-ADT. Accordingly, we examined patient-reported outcomes (PROs) results, which were exploratory endpoints in the CHART trial. The patients were randomly allocated to receive REZ-ADT or BIC-ADT in a 1:1 ratio.

Since the patients suffering from female lower genital tract diseases are getting younger and younger and the human papilloma virus (HPV) infection is becoming more widespread, the novel non-invasive precise modalities of diagnosis and therapy are required to remain structures of the organ and tissue, and fertility as well, by which the less damage to normal tissue and fewer adverse effects are able to be achieved. In all nucleated mammalian cells, 5-Aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) is an amino acid that occurs spontaneously, which further synthesizes in the heme biosynthetic pathway into protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) as a porphyrin precursor and photosensitizing agent. Exogenous 5-ALA avoids the rate-limiting step in the process, causing PpIX buildup in tumor tissues.

Article Synopsis
  • Duck circovirus (DuCV) is a major virus affecting the duck industry in China, causing immunosuppression and secondary infections, often seen alongside novel goose parvovirus (NGPV), which causes developmental issues in ducks.
  • Mixed infections of DuCV and NGPV have increased in prevalence, leading to more severe clinical symptoms and tissue damage than infections with either virus alone.
  • A study on SPF ducks revealed that co-infection enhances viral replication and causes greater immunosuppression, necessitating further research on the mechanisms of such co-infections and their implications.

Article Synopsis
  • In spring 2023, a broiler duck farm in Shandong, China, experienced a severe outbreak of a disease in chicks 10 to 21 days old, leading to symptoms like head and neck swelling, difficulty walking, and significant organ hemorrhaging, ultimately resulting in the culling of over 20,000 ducklings.
  • The study identified a highly virulent strain of duck plague virus (SD423) through tissue analysis and successful isolation methods, which confirmed its pathogenicity in younger ducklings, contradicting previous beliefs that natural infections mainly occurred in older ducks.
  • Genetic analysis showed that the new strain exhibited over 99% homology with a known Chinese virulent strain, pointing to its potential threat and establishing a foundation for

High-risk localized prostate cancer (PCa) has the potential of recurrence and progression to a lethal phenotype, and neoadjuvant therapy followed by radical prostatectomy (RP) may be an option for these patients. Docetaxel has been recently shown to be an effective chemotherapeutic agent for high-volume metastatic hormone-sensitive PCa and metastatic castration-resistant PCa, and these increased efficacy create the impetus to assess the potential role of preoperative docetaxel in high-risk localized PCa. In this mini-review, we found that neoadjuvant chemohormonal therapy (NCHT) may be an effective neoadjuvant regimen to improve oncological outcome of high-risk PCa.
