Background: Our study aimed to develop a predictive model for the risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in bariatric surgery candidates for utilization during the preoperative evaluation.
Methods: Relevant clinical data were retrospectively collected for 453 patients who met the inclusion criteria and did not meet the exclusion criteria; the patients were randomized into training and test cohorts. Univariate analysis was performed on the training set.
Aim: The dental pulp is extensively innervated. Our previous study showed that the α1B-adrenergic receptor ADRA1B is the primary sympathetic neurotransmitter receptor in human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) and its expression was enhanced in inflamed pulp tissues. The sympathetic nerve system (SNS) negatively impacts the proliferation and migration capacities of hDPSCs via ADRA1B.

Gut microbiota is essential for the function of peripherally-induced regulatory T (pTreg) cells. However, how commensal bacteria affect thymically derived fat-resident Treg cells that harbor a unique expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-γ and suppress inflammation in visceral adipose tissue (VAT), is not well defined. Here it is revealed that microbiota depletion causes a drastic decline in Treg cell population in VAT, particularly those expressing ST2 (ST2 Treg), which are largely restored after gut microbiome reconstruction.

Methods: A case-control study was designed to evaluate the impact of three of the most common adipokines (Nrg4, leptin, and adiponectin) on hepatic steatosis in the early recovery phase following sleeve gastrectomy (SG).
Study Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the safety and short-term effect of contemporaneous surgeries (bariatric surgery plus uvulopalatopharyngoplasty [UPPP]) in the treatment of morbid obesity comorbid with severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was performed to identify patients with obesity and severe OSA who underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) with or without UPPP surgeries between December 2019 and December 2021 in our center. Patients were divided into 2 groups according to different surgical methods (contemporaneous group [LSG with UPPP] vs LSG-only group).
Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors have been approved for the treatment of breast cancer (BC) with breast cancer susceptibility (BRCA) gene mutation. Leveraging new synthetic lethal interactions may be an effective way to broaden the indication of PARP inhibitors for BC patients with wild-type BRCA. Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR)-mediated suppression of angiogenesis has been reported to improve the sensitivity of wild-type BRCA cells to PARP inhibitors through synthetic lethality.

The effective potency and resistance of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors limit their application. Here, we exploit a new paradigm that mimics the effects of breast cancer susceptibility genes (BRCA) mutations to trigger the possibility of synthetic lethality, based on the previous discovery of a potential synthetic lethality effect between bromodomain-containing protein 4 (BRD4) and PARP1.
