Pyroptosis has gotten more and more attention, in view of its link with innate immunity and disease. Most chemotherapy drugs could cause pyroptosis through caspase-3/GSDME pathway, which reshapes our understanding about the mechanism of anticancer. In our previous study, we found that a novel flavonoid, Japoflavone B (JFB), exhibited an excellent activity in vitro against the growth of cancer cells.

SUMOylation, a reversible post-translational modification, regulates various mitochondrial processes, including biogenesis, dynamics, mitophagy, and the mitochondrial unfolded protein response. Although SUMOylation is shown to be triggered by mitochondrial protein import failure in yeast, its impact on mammalian mitochondrial protein import remains unclear. Here, it is demonstrated that SENP6 knockdown-induced SUMOylation causes loss of mitochondrial proteostasis, which impairs mitochondrial morphology and function.

July 2025

Research Institute for Maternal and Child Health, The Affiliated Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital, Postdoctoral Research Station of Traditional Chinese Medicine, School of Pharmacy, Jinan University, Guangzhou, China.

Understanding the mechanisms underlying chemoresistance is critical for improving cancer therapies. SIN1 plays a pivotal role in maintaining mTORC2 integrity and activation, which regulates key cellular processes. In this study, we demonstrate that elevated SIN1 expression in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) correlates with poor patient survival outcomes.

Minoxidil (Mi) is currently one of the most commonly used drugs for the treatment of hair loss in clinical settings. It works by accelerating blood flow around the hair follicles, enhancing local oxygen and nutrient supply, thereby promoting hair growth. However, traditional formulations of Mi have a short residence time on the skin, are prone to causing allergic reactions, scaling, and may even induce systemic hypertrichosis as side effects.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) poses a significant economic and public health burden. Exosomes derived from neural stem cells (NSC-Exos) are emerging as a promising therapeutic strategy for SCI repair, overcoming several limitations associated with both autologous and allogeneic neural stem cell therapies. This study demonstrates that NSC-Exos are efficiently internalized by the injured spinal cord after co-injection, resulting in substantial motor function recovery in murine models.

Objective: Several studies illustrated high level of inflammation is an important factor affecting the poor prognosis of patients with chronic kidney disease. Inflammatory burden index (IBI) is a composite maker by incorporating a variety of inflammatory markers to facilitate more in-depth assessment for systemic inflammation. The purpose of this research is to examine the correlation between IBI and prognosis in CKD population of American adults.

Diabetic-associated cognitive dysfunction (DACD) is a critical complication of diabetes mellitus, characterized by progressive cognitive decline and neurodegeneration. This review synthesizes emerging evidence on the interplay between autophagy and ferroptosis, highlighting their roles in DACD pathogenesis. We emphasize the unique contribution of the autophagy-ferroptosis axis, particularly under hyperglycemic and insulin-resistant conditions, in driving iron overload, oxidative stress, and lipid peroxidation in brain tissue.

State Key Laboratory of Green Pesticide, Key Laboratory of Green Pesticide and Agricultural Bioengineering, Ministry of Education, Center for Research and Development of Fine Chemicals of Guizhou University, Guiyang 550025, China.

The development of nanopesticides with minimized carriers (NMCs) through prodrug design and molecular self-assembly represents a transformative strategy for enhancing pesticide utilization efficiency and addressing global food security challenges. As a proof of concept, we developed A12@DES, a water-based nanodelivery system that combines a target-specific pesticide with a deep eutectic solvent (DES). The system utilizes a laccase inhibitor (A12, structurally optimized from lead compound PMDD-5Y) to self-assemble into monodisperse nanospheres (∼160 nm diameter) with an alkaline phosphatase (ALP)-responsive DES matrix.

Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), a well-established hepatic carcinogen, has limited research on early-stage epigenetic biomarkers for aflatoxin-induced liver damage. In this study, we investigated 168 unpackaged peanut oil (UPP) consumers to evaluate associations among AFB1 exposure, HBV infection, methylation, and liver function. Our findings indicated an average daily AFB1 intake of 3.

May 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University, Jinan University, Guangzhou, China.

Purpose: Ribonucleotide reductase inhibitors, a class of antineoplastic agents, were investigated for their ability to enhance recombinant adeno-associated virus serotype 2 (rAAV2) transduction in the mouse retina and their underlying mechanisms.

Methods: Candidate ribonucleotide reductase inhibitors were screened in ARPE-19 cells to identify concentrations preserving cell viability while optimizing rAAV2 transduction. Clofarabine, which demonstrated superior enhancement of rAAV2 in vitro, was selected for in vivo evaluation via subretinal coadministration with rAAV2.

Platinum-based chemotherapy is limited by drug resistance and severe adverse effects. Although the DNA damage response (DDR) is known to affect drug sensitivity across cancer types, the role of its upstream regulator ATM in modulating cisplatin (DDP) resistance remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the role of the ATM/DDR pathway to DDP resistance and proposed a potential targeted strategy.

As age increases, the immune function of elderly individuals gradually decreases, increasing their susceptibility to infectious diseases. Therefore, further research on common viral infections in the elderly population, especially severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and influenza viruses, is crucial for scientific progress. This review delves into the genetic structure, infection mechanisms, and impact of coinfections with these two viruses and provides a detailed analysis of the reasons for the increased susceptibility of elderly individuals to dual viral infections.
