Nondestructive identification of fluoroquinolones distribution on food is an approach to simplify detection steps and improve detection efficiency. In this study, a fluorescent sensor based on terbium (III) and adenosine monophosphate coordinated hydrogel (TbCHy) has been synthesized, which is assisted by machine learning for intelligent and nondestructive detection of fluoroquinolones (FQs) in meat. Norfloxacin (NOR) was used as the model target, the TbCHy-based sensor performed a good linearity when NOR concentration ranged from 0.

Plant strain sensors, which enable real-time monitoring of plant growth, play a crucial role in improving both the quality and yield of various plants. However, current plant strain sensors often exhibit significant mechanical mismatches and poor interfacial compatibility with plant tissues, leading to inaccurate and unstable in situ monitoring. Herein, we present a novel ultrasoft, anti-dehydrated, and highly stretchable organohydrogel (UASOH) strain sensor composed of polyacrylamide (PAM) and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) via a glycerol-induced hydrogen bonding enhancement strategy.

Cyp17a is a key enzyme in steroidogenesis and reproduction in vertebrates. In teleosts, two paralogous genes, cyp17a1 and cyp17a2, have been identified, and while the potential impact of mutations in these genes have been studied, a comprehensive comparative analysis of their regulatory mechanisms in teleost reproduction remains lacking. In this study, we established a double mutant (dko) of cyp17a1 and cyp17a2 and conducted a transcriptome analysis of their gonads to systematically investigate the differences in steroidogenesis and gene expression between the two genes.

Industrial Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (IRAS) represent a sustainable and efficient approach to aquaculture, offering significant benefits in water conservation and environmental management. A comprehensive understanding of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) cycling is essential for optimizing system design and operational strategies, enabling the maintenance of a balanced ecosystem within IRAS. Here, water microbial communities in the shrimp aquaculture pond (AP) and nitrification tank (NT) of the IRAS were investigated using a metagenomics-based approach to explore the mechanisms of N and P coupling cycles.

Wearable temperature-sensitive electronic skin enables robots to rapidly detect environmental changes and respond intelligently, thereby reducing temperature-related mechanical failures. Additionally, this temperature-sensitive skin can measure and record the temperature of external objects, broadening its potential applications in the medical field. In this study, we designed a thermally sensitive artificial ionic skin using ionic liquids (ILs) as solvents and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as thermally conductive fillers.

Myostatin (Mstn) negatively regulates muscle growth and Mstn deficiency induced "double-skeletal muscle" development in vertebrates, including tilapias. In this study, we performed a transcriptomic analysis of skeletal muscle from both wild-type and mstnb males to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying skeletal muscle hypertrophy in mstnb mutants. We identified 4697 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), 113 differentially expressed long non-coding RNAs (DE lncRNAs), 211 differentially expressed circular RNAs (DE circRNAs), and 98 differentially expressed microRNAs (DE miRNAs).

Previous research has highlighted the significant role of progestins and glucocorticoids in fish oocyte maturation and ovulation. To clarify the molecular mechanisms underlying these processes, comprehensive investigations were conducted using a mutant Nile tilapia ( ) model. Analysis revealed pronounced Cyp17a2 expression in ovarian somatic cells of the tilapia.

Interactions among the underlying agents of a complex system are not only limited to dyads but can also occur in larger groups. Currently, no generic model has been developed to capture high-order interactions (HOI), which, along with pairwise interactions, portray a detailed landscape of complex systems. Here, we integrate evolutionary game theory and behavioral ecology into a unified statistical mechanics framework, allowing all agents (modeled as nodes) and their bidirectional, signed, and weighted interactions at various orders (modeled as links or hyperlinks) to be coded into hypernetworks.

Relaxin 3 is a neuropeptide that plays a crucial role in reproductive functions of mammals. Previous studies have confirmed that rln3a plays an important role in the male reproduction of tilapia. To further understand the significance of its paralogous gene rln3b in male fertility, we generated a homozygous mutant line of rln3b in Nile tilapia.

Steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (Star) plays an essential role in the biosynthesis of corticosteroids and sex steroids by mediating the transport of cholesterol from the outer to the inner membrane of mitochondria. Two duplicated Star genes, namely star1 and star2, have been identified in non-mammalian vertebrates. To investigate the roles of star genes in fish steriodogenesis, we generated two mutation lines of star1 and star1/star2 in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus).

Relaxin3 (rln3) has been associated with various emotional and cognitive processes, including stress, anxiety, learning, memory, motivational behavior, and circadian rhythm. Notably, previous report revealed that Rln3a played an indispensable role in testicular development and male fertility in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). However, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain largely unknown.

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is an essential nutrient for humans and plays a critical role in human development and health. Freshwater fish, such as the common carp (), have a certain degree of DHA biosynthesis ability and could be a supplemental source of human DHA needs. The elongase of very-long-chain fatty acid 5 (Elovl5) is an important enzyme affecting polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) biosynthesis.

Because drug response is multifactorial, graph models are uniquely powerful for comprehending its genetic architecture. We deconstruct drug response into many different and interdependent sub-traits, with each sub-trait controlled by multiple genes that act and interact in a complicated manner. The outcome of drug response is the consequence of multileveled intertwined interactions between pleiotropic effects and epistatic effects.

Background: Steroid hormones play an essential role in many reproductive processes of vertebrates. Previous studies revealed that teleost-specific Cyp17a2 (cytochrome P450 family 17 subfamily a 2) might be required for the production of cortisol in the head-kidney and 17α,20β-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (DHP) in ovary during oocyte maturation. However, the role of Cyp17a2 in male reproduction remains to be largely unknown.

To investigate the effect of chiral pesticide fenvalerate (FV) on the micro-ecological environment of aquaculture pond sediment, we used an indoor static experiment to observe the effects of FV added at different concentrations with different chiral isomers on the changes in the sediment bacterial community. The 16S rDNA high-throughput sequencing technique was used to conduct sequencing and analysis of the bacterial community structure as well as changes in aquaculture pond sediments after 4 weeks of cultivation. The results showed that the microbial alpha diversity indices (Sobs and Shannon indices) of the treated groups were significantly lower than those of the control group after 4 weeks (P < 0.
